The setting was incredible. We were given a beautiful room with a view of the river and the lawn. My husbands favorite. The setting was amazing! However.....

The only thing I don't like is when you put on the hosts registration requests that you would like a low floor because of my bad knees and they give you the highest floor in the building. We had to take 3 flights to get to our room! On the last day I fell down the second flight. I have bad knees and neuropathy so it's very hard to be on a high flight of stairs. If they can't accommodate my request they should just tell me and I'll book elsewhere. Food wasn't great for such a lovely place.

Our room had a view of the lovely river. The bed was comfortable and there was complementary water, tea and snacks. Staff was really nice and the food at the restaurant was very good. It is a quiet hotel, remote from the road. An extra bed was added to make sure our kids would sleep well, and they did. Love that they provide Highland soap in the rooms!

The toilet in our room sounded like it was going to explode every time it was used. It couldn't be fixed during our 2 night stay, so we had to make sure not to use it at night. Breakfast was simple and lacked in variety. Sometimes food had all been taken by other guests and nothing more was coming... I'd say that was the least satisfying breakfast of our 17 day trip. Service was really slow for dinner outside, as they seemed to be short of staff.

Beautiful location, beautiful hotel we loved everything about the hotel. Friendly warm comfortable that would suit any age group the rooms have a wow factor & little touches like proper tea & coffee cups in room & varied choice off coffee & tea. Bar staff just lovely & very knowledgeable about the locally produced alcohol. Every member of staff so helpful. Service like we’ve not received before in any other hotel we have stayed. The food was pretty unbelievable lots of choice & very adaptable. Value for money with the rooms. This is a hotel we will definitely return to. This hotel should be more than a 4 star by miles.

We can’t fault anything just superb

The hotel is in a stunning location, close to the river Dee. Staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and spacious with a very comfy bed. The dining room is very attractive and looks out onto the river and the fields and trees beyond. The food at dinner was excellent! I only eat continental breakfast which was good but cannot comment on the hot food.

I was unable to have the window open during the night (which is what I prefer in warm weather) because of a noise outside from some machinery so the room was a bit stuffy.

Location was easy to find, very close to centre of Banchory but snug away to make it feel excluded and quiet. 30 minutes from the centre of Aberdeen. Gorgeous views of the river from hotel room. Quirky parts of the building gave the hotel great personality. The staff were fantastic. Especially those working in the bar and restaurant. The food was lovely and had value for money. The room was clean. Included loads of tea and coffee of all types and included a coffee filter and tea pot. Included soaps and shampoos which smelt lovely.

The only complaint would be that our room had a bay window, which was the best part of the room but required work as parts of the wall were coming apart.

Our room was excellent. very spacious and the sofa was a bonus. could sit and read without having to sit on the bed.dinner both nights was delicious. the second night we opted for the Venison. it was amazing.

The cold table by the door. We moved once another table on the other side of the room became free and once we were finished eating. It was a shame the fire was not lit as when i called just a couple of days before to check the booking the girl on the phone said it was lovely and cosy as the fire was lit.It was April, but we had snow while were there.

The staff were excellent, the breakfast was fantastic and the room was very clean, big and decor was great. It is clear the staff are trying hard to deliver a good service and it is working!

We stayed in Room 14 for two nights and were disturbed quite badly by a wedding that was taking place on the Thursday night. I don't begrudge a wedding, or the income for the hotel, but we hadn't been warned that our room was directly above the wedding venue itself. This meant that there was really loud music/microphone until 12.30am on a Thursday night which took the shine off the stay. Would have been 10/10 otherwise!

We made the six hour drive mainly to visit a friend in Aberdeen, having few expectations of the area. The secluded location by the wide rushing waters of the Dee is like something out of a Hollywood movie. There seems to be a culture among the staff of being relaxed, helpful, happy and smiling which makes this a very special place that we would like to revisit. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic, including excellent vegan options.

This hasn’t stopped me giving a maximum 10/10, but on the first sub zero night some cold air from the window area snuck through a gap in the thick curtains, so we put a chair against the curtain the following night. Also our WiFi cut out a couple of times which I couldn’t patch by switching to my 3mobile which is not as good. For us these seemed like very small things given the beauty of the hotel and area, and the warmth of the welcome.

fabulous location next to the river Dee. staff couldn’t have been nicer nor more helpful. restaurant quality very good. room luxurious and clean

Minor point really but important to me- we had booked a room with a balcony- what we got was a ground floor room with a terrace, which was of no use obviously in cold weather. room was lovely but stuffy at night, even with heating off, as I didn’t want to open French doors on ground floor. ( I knew I would be hot at night which was why the balcony option had attracted me, and why I paid for that more expensive option)

Fantastic location on the River Dee, the Banchory Lodge encapsulated every I’d hoped in my Scottish visit. Great food and ambience. Most of the staff were enthusiastic, helpful and welcoming.

There was a tendency to over promise and under deliver, as indicated by my taxi not being ordered despite me asking, and subsequently repeating my request. I was also offered a sandwich on the night of my arrival 3 hours late (thanks to LNER and signalling wire thieves), I was very pleasantly surprised by the offer. However, upon my arrival there was nothing (which I had actually expected). The bar was still open for me, so I did have a couple glasses of wine, which made everything all good.
