Good choice for breakfast. Berry compote was lovely and cooked breakfast very nice. Monkfish curry was very tasty. Steak the second night was good but bit disappointed it was the same menu both nights. Maybe it could be the same menu but then have a different special on each night.
The rice desert wasn't very nice and was very watery - did put us off having a desert the second night although they did acknowledge it hadn't worked well that night. Also served in a large bowl - would be nicer in a small round dish Tea at breakfast wasn't very hot - maybe came out of a cistern?

Meals were superb. Especially the breakfast. Staff friendly . Stunning location Loved the working fireplaces. Bar has a stunning whisky collection. Dog friendly too which is always a bonus. Nice touches from the hotel such as water bowls. Treats and dog waste bags provided . You can also choose to dine with your dog if that's your thing. Will definitely be back again.
The blue cheese and pesto pizza from the bar menu was not the best(ok ... It was vile ). It was simply not up to the standard of the rest of the food which was out of this world. A USB charger in the room for phones etc would be nice.

The staff were excellent and worked so hard, as it was a busy weekend. We were late arriving due to a snow storm and they rang us whilst we were on our way to check that we were OK, which was really sweet. When we arrived they had upgraded my daughter's room to a 4 poster (like our room) as they felt sorry for us having such an awful journey. We were late for dinner but they still accommodated us all, and they had made a special Vegan dessert for my daughter. The food was excellent, and we ate in the hotel both nights.
The hotel is quite remote, but that is why I picked it - might not suit everyone. The room was very warm and comfortable. Bathroom was a little dated but immaculately clean, plenty of hot water and good water pressure. My daughter and her boyfriend found the hotel really charming and "Agatha Christie-like" was their comment. Surrounding scenery was stunning.

We had a family room which was very comfortable and spacious. The castle has fantastic food and amazing staff. The house is old and contains many original furnishings from the 1930’s and earlier which adds to the ambience of the place. The whole surrounding area offers a tranquil environment to relax in. The meals we had there were exceptional. We had a falling accident with resulted in some very muddy clothing, which the hotel was more than happy to launder for us.
Aside from the quality of the single bed in the family room, (a very lumpy mattress) there is little to find fault with. Our room had a very old radiator hidden behind some panelling which kicked out enough heat to service a small country and I found it a bit of a task to turn it down. These really were the only things I could pick up on, both easily rectifiable.

We booked this hotel for 2 nights with the intention of skiing at Glenshee. What swung it for us were the reviews! I honestly think this hotel deserves another star. Its small but full of character, set in lovely grounds in the middle of nowhere by a river. We had a four poster room and it was warm, comfortable and lots of beautiful antique furniture. The food is really excellent- we had dinner and breakfast and were pleasantly surprised at the quality. Staff were lovely too and there seemed to be a huge selection of whisky if that's your thing. I'd definitely go back.
Atmosphere in the main reception area- it was quiet and a bit awkward when we arrived- roaring fires were great, but maybe some background music and some softer lighting would have made it more welcoming. But that's the only thing that could be improved on!

Great to find a hotel with a bit of history that hasn't been turned into a 'boutique' with odd decor etc, it retained its atmosphere. Room was comfortable and clean , nice view to back garden. In the middle of no-where which was a great escape from election news and all the goings on in the world, plenty of wildlife around including red squirrels, very pleasant surroundings in a 6000 acre estate. What really made the trip was the friendliness of the staff and how helpful they were. And in addition the food was simply superb - good range, great presentation and wonderful tastes, best dinners we have had in a hotel for a good while. The mackerel starter was fantastic ! Big well done to everyone in the hotel, it was busy so nice to see the hotels efforts are being rewarded.
The trip was a two day break away to relax and celebrate our wedding anniversary - there wasn't any part of it we didn't enjoy so there was nothing we didn't like.

The actual stay was great - we had a dog with us and were given a room the library to dine in. The meal was excellent in parts - a bit ho-hum in others. Wine was good and whiskey advice also good. Hotel had a leak which cut power to the wing where our wonderful room was so we were moved to a less interesting room unfortunately, but were promised a discount on the bill for the inconvenience.
We wanted to settle our bill at the hotel before leaving but their computer system was down. We were promised we would be sent the bill before being charged. This did not happen, we just got a charge to our card with no idea of the price breakdown, nor whether the promised discount was applied. I am still waiting for the hotel to send the itemised bill having chased them twice in the past week with no response. EDIT: Have now been contacted with hotel - turns out they sent our bill to the booking.com proxy email address and somehow that never came through to us. Bill was accurate. They took a while to respond as they were closed overthe new year. I have increased my overall rating accordingly.

On arrival the location is stunning. The castle itself is beautiful in its surroundings. Our room is quite possibly the nicest room we have ever stayed in, comfortable and the character is everything we could have hoped for. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but partook of the bar menu. The Angus burger is one of the best I've had in a very long time and the vegan option, my wife assured me was fantastic. The staff are polite, professional and extremely welcoming. I cannot recommend Dalmunzie castle highly enough.
We couldn't find fault with our stay.

Amazing location in the heart of the Highlands. Absolutely beautiful grounds. Rooms were nicely decorated, clean, quiet, and beds were comfortable. Restaurant was good. Limited selection, but what they had was always well prepared and good. We loved the bar area with all the little seating areas to sit and have a drink by the fire. Kids loved the billiard table. Lots of great scenic walks right from the hotel, both around the golf course and into the surrounding peaks. Staff was very helpful. We had an issue with our rental car and they want above and beyond in helping us with transportation to the hotel and getting a new car.
It is definitely an older building (parts date back to 1500s) and as previous reviews have mentioned it will need a sprucing up (paint fixes here and there, carpet, etc) soon. The age adds to the charm for sure though! Absolutely loved this place!

The facility itself is quite impressive, and we were fortunate to be upgraded to a room with the four-poster bed. It felt more luxurious than most places we've stayed, and they had a nice lounge area where we could order a light meal and some drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. Also, there are several breathtaking walks on the property to enjoy -- unfortunately, we did not have the time to go on an extended walk, but we did manage to take in some of the beautiful landscape.
Part of the beauty of this location is also one of the more challenging aspects of it -- it is remote, and the roads to get to it can be difficult to navigate, especially if you are not familiar with the area. It takes a long time to travel up to the place, and it is better suited for those wishing to stay and enjoy what is on site, not explore nearby towns.
