Great staff, really friendly and professional. Lots of space to park and a decent sized room.Breakfast not included in our room rate but was very good. Good tea and coffee making in room with nice biscuits and the option to request fresh milk from the bar much appreciated.

The bathroom needed renovation and wasn’t as clean as I’d have liked. The sink tap was furred up and consequently showered you with water whenever you used it. There were quite a lot of thick dark beard hairs around the back of the wash basin. Other than that only other minus was pillows on bed uncomfortable and a bit smelly.

Bar and Restaurant is beautiful decorated but when you get into the accommodation side it is very dated. The housekeepers have done their best with the cleanliness but because it is so dated and needs painting, the cleanliness may not be obvious. We stay here alot when we visit family, it is generally a nice place to stay but with just a lick of paint, could look so much nicer. All that said, it has everything you need for a short stay, some more refreshments in the rooms would be appreciated though.

Dated Only 2 tea bags in the room Draft from the windows.

The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Sadly our room No.1 had unfinished painted areas and the inside window frames were dirty. The bathroom. Is in a poor condition. The tile grouting was dirty/stained, the bath had two chips in it, the bath grab handles are corroding. Something had been attached to the tiled wall by the mirror and had come away leaving real mess. Also the frame on the right side of the door is in two pieces and the door cannot been closed. Overall a poor condition

Lovely pub with accommodation above, the food in the pub was fabulous. The bedroom was really good size and spotlessly clean, the bathroom let it down though. Lovely, comfy bed and pillows, and plenty of hanging space. Would definitely stay here again, and would recommend!

We were really disappointed with the bathroom, it's my one thing I like when we go away! There were cracks in lots of the tiles, and the silicone seal around the bath was so thick and clumpy it looked like cake icing...it was quite comical 🤪 The trouble is when the tiles and paintwork are so old and worn, it just looks dirty....even though it definitely wasn't! Just a personal preference of mine to have a more modern, fresh bathroom.

Nice big car park and good location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast menu and food was very good. Comfortable room and beds.

Only a few small points common to a lot of places such as no hooks on the bathroom door to hang things, no heated towel rail or any supplementary heating as was chilly one evening. Also some extra toilet rolls would be handy although always carry one in my case and could have asked for more but shouldn’t really need to.

Nice clean warm rooms, lovely size TV, lady in breakfast room.was extremely helpful and needs a big pat on the back, please show her appreciation for all she does. Full English breakfast was lovely and thank you to the chef for preparing our three guests with breakfast even 5/10 mins after 9am. Thank you for accommodating our extra needs. We would return.

Our stay would have been a 10 out of 10 if they allowed breakfast up to 9.30 am instead of 9am. And if the TV actually worked on all channels, the channels that did work kept freezing. And more breakfast tea, milk, and sugar in rooms. 2 teabags per room with two guests is just not adequate. Maybe some bottled water.

Large room, very comfy bed. Pub area very welcoming. Great breakfast. One morning a middle aged team member was looking after a Norwegian couple at breakfast, she went out of her way to try and translate for them. She really did give exceptional service.

Dinner wasn’t great for the price. Salmon swimming in grease or butter unnecessary as it had a sauce, tender stem broccoli so tough almost inedible. I was still hungry afterwards, luckily biscuits in the room. I bought a sandwich for my second night.

There's a reason I keep staying here when I'm in the area. The rooms are large, the beds are comfy, the whole place is clean, the breakfast is good value and very good. The Wheatsheaf doesn't offer any pretencious bells and whistles. Just good food, a good night's sleep, and the staff are absolutely superb. All chatty, friendly and very helpful. I've stayed in far more expensive hotels with dellusions of grandeure which are not even half as good as the Wheatsheaf. The origin of the hotel was as a coaching inn, and it's good to see that even now, over a century later, it's still proving travellers and visitors a good feed and a good bed. I would (and have) recommend them without hesitation!

The wifi is pretty poor, but it doesn't really cause me any issues as I tend not to use hotel wifi. When I'm visiting, it's for work so there's something to be said for switching off when I get back to the hotel. That said, the wifi is quite patchy and drops out a lot, so it would be worth looking into a better system.

Stayed here one night with my teenage son for a Southampton University open day. There was practically nothing left in and around Southampton by the time we booked, and certainly nothing around this price , so I feel it was good value and only about 30 mins drive to the Uni. Twin room ( number 10) was clean, spacious, beds very comfortable. Plenty of convenient plug sockets. I have to use a machine to help me breathe at night so it’s really important that there is a socket near the bed. Loved the cute little insulated milk churn they give you for your room so you can have fresh milk for tea and coffee. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on food. If you don't book a room with breakfast included, there is the option to decide on the day and pay when you eat. This is better as there are more breakfast options, such as continental only, children's portions etc that are cheaper than full breakfast and which didn't show on booking.com as an option. Room overlooked the carpark and a bit of noise from the nearby A road, but not too bad. Plenty of free parking.

Nothing really. Bathroom a little worn in places but shower was fine and everything was clean, so it wasn’t a problem.

We didn't have breakfast but we did have food on arrival and it was lovely. Beds were so spacious and comfy. Very clean. Nice to have a fan and ironing board and good size tv also.

More tea and coffee sachets for our stay. There was literaly 2 coffee 4 sugars. My husband takes 3!!! Maybe provide bittles water on arrival. We paid 9 pounds for 2 bottles water and a bottle of coke!!!!! On arrival after a long 4 hour drive. No lift or facilities to get luggage upstairs. I had to carry everything as my husband was on crutches. Not your fault but would have helped a little to get some assistance maybe. X
