Room was a great size for the price. Bed amd pillows were comfy. I liked how there was a dressing table to get ready at. I didn't hear too much noise so slept well. Information packet was available. Tv worked well. Easy to check in and out.

Would have been nice to have some bottled water on the tea tray in my room as I do not drink tea or coffee so would have to go to the bar or use the bathroom tap for water to drink. When I stripped the bedding off some of the pillows has yellow stains on. Doors are quite loud when they shut and set off a Lound hight pitched beep If not shut properly. Would prefer curtains instead of a blind.

Staff are lovely and very helpful! Really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help if you need anything! Just need to ask. Big big plus. Easy to get to from the train station

Very loud as in town centre and seems like there's lots of noisy people around even during the day. They warned after the booking was completed though so kinda expected it. For the price it's not very impressive, quite run down and simple. It's clean for sure, just a bit old and not what I expected when i booked. You've got everything you need in a hotel room but it's very pricey for what it's like.

We never been to Basingstoke before, so it was new experience for us. My partner booked a room for two nights, then I booked extra night. When I called the reception before our stay, the Italian lady was very helpful, so all other reception, bar, night staff - perfect service. We got everything we need - ironing facilities, ice for water, extra water glasses - just ask those nice people, they are there for you - information or extra spoon, you'll get it! Very pleased with our stay.

The central position of the hotel is brilliant. The staff on reception were very welcoming, especially the young man on duty when we arrived. Monday's breakfast was cooked to order, fresh and hot. (see below) Loved the games cafe at the front of the hotel. Good food and great atmosphere.

Breakfast on Sunday was very disappointing. There was a very good selection but the hot buffet breakfast was anything but hot. It was lukewarm. When we mentioned this, the young girl did not offer any apology but blamed it on the inadequate heating unit. Likewise the flasks of hot water for tea making were also not very hot.

The room is comfortably furnished and tea and coffee are provided as well. The English breakfast was also very good. The hotel is not so far from the train station and a huge shopping mall, which was very convenient. Check-in ahead of time was not possible, but I was allowed to leave my bag with the reception to check in later.

Although I had received a message from the hotel before pointing out that, especially in the evenings and on weekends, it might get quite loud due to some pubs nearby, but I was surprised to realize just how loud it was at night. Well, that's how it is, so it might be better to stay during the week and to avoid Friday and Saturday nights - unless you want to spend them in one of the pubs, too :)

don’t listen to the reviews that say it’s noisy at night, it really wasn’t for us, though we were on the top floor. really cosy vibe, had great sleep after going to reading festival.

everything was just as i expected it really. the only thing is there’s like a drug rehab centre right next to it so we heard some shouting and stuff from in there but that’s not the hotels fault at all, just keep it in mind.

Upon arrival there is staff to help with check in, the lady unfortunately was a little abrupt whilst I was trying to sort out my belongings as I had just traveled from Stoke on Trent, however, this did not phase me as she was probably having a stressful day, I know the feeling! The room itself was nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The facilities were good and the location is prime, especially if you are looking for a night out/cocktail bars. The staff advised me that there was going to be a party on the Friday night and even offered me an alternative room, very thoughtful in my opinion. Thankyou to the staff at the Red Lion for making my first trip to Basingstoke enjoyable and comfortable. I will definitely be staying here when I visit Basingstoke again.

All the staff are so friendly and welcoming and make you feel you are part of the team even though your only a guest the rooms are nice and comfortable too and for a town centre hotel you hardly hear any noise.

All the doors to every room are on springs so they slam everytime someone opens and closes them unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to stop this. Apart from that all was good.

Sara at the reception was extremely helpful, very polite and it felt more like home than a hotel. The room size was as described at the time of the booking! The hotel allowed food delivery because the hotel unfortunately doesn’t run the restaurant for hotel patrons at the weekends. There is plenty to choose from if you are a restaurant goer. The high street area is pedestrianised and literally 3 minutes walk away! You will find a huge choice of restaurants in the high street! Hotel location is very Central!

The room was on top of the restaurant and the main window opens up into the smoking area. You can’t access any fresh air through your main window!

If you have stayed here before you are treated like a old friend and even if it is your first time you are treated with a warm welcome from very friendly and helpful staff one time I was allowed to check out a hour later at midday with no extra charge and then I was allowed to sit in the lounge until 3pm when my lift arrived that is how helpful they are.

It was all good so there was nothing to dislike.
