This is a well situated, friendly pub with excellent rooms. The rooms are large, modern, clean and well stocked. Very large bathroom with lots of large towels. It was quiet, despite being in town centre. There was parking.

We hadn't realised there was no food available at the pub. In the end it didn't matter too much. There was a great Indian restaurant about 200 yards away. No breakfast was more of a problem - although very good tea and coffee making facilities. Lots of pubs we stay at do provide a small continental breakfast in a bag, not sure if the Royal Oak had thought of that. Very steep stairs to first floor - take small overnight bag

Breakfast was not on offer but you had a beverage tray in the room. The greeting was good and the guide around the building was helpful. The stairs up to the rooms are somewhat steep but the decor -old with modern/layout of the room and bathroom was beautiful. It was only weeks/months completed and the workmanship was excellent. The bed comfortable, fresh and clean. Extremely pleasant. Rating would have been 10 with Breakfast option.

Unfortunately they don't do breakfast which is/was somewhat of an inconvenience. We did suggest an alternative option for them. Just to offer small - continental breakfast or join up with the local Oatcake shop and offer the local Staffordshire delicacy. Finding breakfast in Sainsbury's didnt quite fit the beautiful time and effort put into the rooms and atmosphere of the pub.

We received a very warm welcome - Friendly staff and customers. Newly refurbished pub so they accommodation was very smart and tastefully decorated and furnished. Good selection of real ale and well kept and served

Initially disappointed there was no kitchen to serve breakfast.. or any food, but made up with the Povey's Oatcakes shop that opens at 7am seven mornings a week across the road and the Indian Restaurant up the High Street that fitted us in at short notice and served us a wonderful meal from a great menu.

Excellent stay, lovely staff, great service, immaculate rooms, stylish decor and good quality furnishings. Safe and secure access and right in the middle of town with free parking - yet still quiet and with no disturbance or noise whatsover. We didn't need breakfast so no problem at all for us that breakfast is not included as there are multiple options available in the town centre all within less than a minutes walk - and tea, coffee making facilities and fridge in room Will stay again and thank you all

Really lovely hotel. Staff were really friendly, room was spotlessly clean and so cosy and charming. Location was really easy to find and a small car park next to the pub. They don’t do food but I was aware of this when I booked anyway, but there is a small fridge in the room so was able to keep a few things in there. Also was told that I was more than welcome to order takeaway and get it delivered to the bar downstairs! There is separate locked door to the side of the property with a locked gate to access this, to use when the pub was closed. It was really well lit and very easy to use. Plenty of tea and coffee tucked away in a little cupboard with the mini fridge - and they had hot chocolate too which is another nice little touch!

The only thing, and it really wasn’t a big issue at all, there was no full length mirror. I was staying there while attending a wedding nearby and couldn’t check that my dress looked alright! But as I said, really not a big deal and there really wasn’t anything I didn’t like! The staircase is quite narrow and steep - wasn’t a problem but just to mention for others to be aware of.

Steve the landlord was very welcoming, he showed us to our room (unlike other places that just give you your key and let you find your own way). He also checked several times throughout the week that everything was OK. The room was really clean and smelt gorgeous. Decor was fresh and neutral. The bed was really comfortable nice fresh white linen. There is a thermostat in the room so you can control your own heating . Lovely shower as well. Room cleaning and towels changed daily. The pub itself does not provide food however there is no shortage of takeaways really close by, the Chinese is right opposite and I can recommend it. All in all we enjoyed our stay and have booked in for next year.

The stairs up to the rooms are very steep so anyone with mobility problems will struggle. Not a dislike but may bother some people is the entertainment at the weekend. It dosen't start until the evening and goes off by 10.30. It didn't bother us, we just turned the telly up. Nothing else to dislike.

The Royal Oak was absolutely spot on for us as a base to spend a couple of days walking in the area. The rooms above the pub were refurbished 18 months ago and they are really comfortable. There were live music events in the pub downstairs which sadly we missed because we were busy.

There was nothing at all to dislike. A couple of minor issues with door handles that didn't affect us at all and will be fixed for the next guests. The car park is small but Steve the landlord kindly moved his car so we didn't have to worry about the local parking bay restrictions. Absolutely no complaints.

Comfortable room and good bathroom facilities. Tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge in room. Sainsburys a few doors away. In the centre of town but the road was quite quiet. We tried our first oatcake ever for breakfast from Poveys, who are across the road. Brilliant 360° view from Mow Cop Folly, which is not far away. Lovely friendly people.

No full-length mirror near a plug for doing hair and makeup. Had to park in main carpark, but wasn't an issue as not too far to walk and no charge between 6pm and 8am

Everything was perfect, we couldn't have asked for better. The rooms were absolutely immaculate and provided everything we needed. The staff were very welcoming and the pub was beautiful. Location was great, pubs / restaurants and shops within walking distance :)

Nothing - perfect stay!!

The room was so cosy, bed very comfortable and great shower. Travelled with my boyfriend and siblings as we needed somewhere to stay to go to a local party, there weren't many places to stay as we needed 3 rooms and everything was booked up at our time of looking so we didn't really know what to expect. But when we were shown to our rooms we were very pleased. We had a drink in the bar downstairs which was a typical country pub, just what we like! The fridge in the room was also a lovely touch. Shall definitely go back if we need accomodation there again.

Couldn't really find any places around the area to eat.
