I loved the surroundings. They were beautiful. And there was a river that flowed outside the property, which was very calming and peaceful. And all the rooms were very big. The bathroom was exceptional, very large with his and hers sinks and baths as well as a lovely big shower and sauna. If you are looking for lovely views and peace and quiet, and don't mind the price, it is worth staying here. We also had afternoon tea, which we never had before. So, I'm not sure whether it was worth the value, but I did enjoy it. The staff were also very helpful and kind.

There was not a lot of choice from the food menu. And it was very expensive for what there was. Afternoon tea was a little disappointing as the bread was thicker than the fillings. There should have been more filling in the sandwiches. And there was no kettle in the room for tea or coffee, which would have been nice, especially if you drink a lot of tea during the day. Otherwise, it works out expensive to keep ordering it.

A wonderful hotel in a beautiful location. Extremely peaceful setting in the middle of delightful countryside within landscaped gardens. Real tranquility with the calming sound of an exquisite river to lend even more character to the setting. Extremely friendly and personal service, from the front door being opened for us when we arrived, to the car being brought to the door and the luggage placed in as we left. Not to mention the perfectly sized four year old and teenager bathrobes and slippers waiting in our room for our children on our arrival, along with chocolates, lemonade, port (not for our children;) and other refreshments. The room was also excellent. The modern and historical blended with style and character. Large and comfortable, with views over the gardens and the sound of the river outside. And then the breakfast. So relaxing and sophisticated, in a lovely dining room, with excellent service and the best (and most impressive) croissants and Eggs Royale I have ever tasted. Simply a first class and enjoyable experience. Would have wanted to stay longer. Would definitely recommend.

Everything was excellent. My only request might be to have some gentle music in the lounge or bar, just to add a little extra atmosphere.

Breakfast table by a sunny window overlooking the grounds. Elements of the breakfast and dinner were exceptional. High quality ingredients cooked superbly. The Hotel had a relaxed friendly atmosphere and staff could not have been more attentive. The grounds are beautiful and location for walking is excellent.

The dining room was dark and lighting was basic. The colour scheme was dull and uninspiring. The room lacked any atmosphere. When we arrived both the drawing room and bar were full to capacity and we had tea in the Hall by reception which was not ideal as an introduction.

The peace and quiet. Proximity to good walks. Spacious surroundings inside the manor house. The grounds are beautiful and we loved walking through the vegetable and water garden and along the river running through. The breakfast was very good, lots of choice. The home made biscuits were delicious with our tea. Nothing was too much trouble. We didn’t get a chance to play tennis but managed a game of golf on the mini 18 hole putting course. The staff were amazing. We had the most beautiful room overlooking the river and tennis court with a private balcony - loved it. The bathroom was amazing best wet room we have seen. It’s all the little things that Gidleigh Park have thought of that make this such a special place to stay.

The only thing we would say and it is not a “didn’t like” but more a suggestion - a bit more variety on the menu rather than the same menu for all day and perhaps changing up the soup each day. But the food we had was lovely. The road in was a little bit hairy scary - the hedge rows were so high and a very narrow single lane road - practice your reversing skills before you go.

The grand view of Gidleigh is that it is exceptional in every way, but it is the small things that really make the difference - the thermos jug of chilled water, the juiciest oranges and the most delicious dates in our room, all with a fine plate, knife and linen napkin. The meal of course far exceeded our expectations, every morsel was a sheer delight! My beef was the countryside on a plate and my wife's venison was autumn on a plate. We were completely blown away. Finally, the level of service was the epitome of what could be expected in a country hotel - there when you needed it, helpful and friendly but not obsequious. Staying at Gidleigh is like coming home to your dream home

That we had left it for more than 30 years between visits. Such a shame!

Settled in the Dartmoor national park, it is a very quiet and comforting get away. You can have a short walk with children from there as well as long ones. Plenty of nice activities in the hotel (boardgames, crocket, tennis, walks). The place is full of charm and history. The staff is extremely kind and efficient. They made the stay easy for a single parent, offering private dining. The kids menu was varied, delicious and decently priced. The restaurant was a treat for me as well.

Nothing.

Highly personalised service is the policy at this sublime establishment. Excellent standards in all areas, seamless from arrival to service, food and drink. Attention to detail throughout. Very peaceful and relaxing location.

Only things I would criticise were: no doors on bathroom or shower area. Bit wierd. This is a very remote property.

Immaculate service & comfortable quiet meant the perfect escape from the every day. We ate well and drank deeply. We putted, croqueted and tennised. We played giant spinning scrabble whilst having tea and biscuits. We walked hand in hand around the the grounds, we nearly fell in the water gardens and we dreamt about living here. And all the while the staff were quiet friendly and attentive.

That I wasn't able to stay longer.

Everything! The grounds were lovely the hotel well kept and the atmosphere was instantly welcoming and relaxing. The outlaws thoroughly approved which was a gold star for me and my 7 year old daughter was made to feel so welcome. The level of service was the best we have experienced even higher than previous stays at the savoy and lanesborough in London which we didn’t think could be beaten! Food was delicious room comfortable we genuinely found it impossible to criticise anything!

hotel was very nice and well appointed. The grounds were picturesque, we played tennis in there courts, there was also croquet and a putting course.

The service charges which are not compulsory were unsustainable, (blooming ridiculous) would be an accurate description. I paid roughly £130 in service charges over a day and a night.
