We loved that it was so pet friendly! They supplied a dog bed/bowls and treats for our huge labradoodle! We all loved our stay. We had both their evening meal and breakfast. Both were very nice although I was disappointed that they had run out of pork crackling at lunch! Staff were beyond helpful at every turn; from recommending good places to walk our dog, to returning my pillow to me after our visit. Yes, I stupidly left it there and like a child who had lost her favourite toy, I was rather stressed about it! They went out of their way to have it back to me the day after I called to ask if it was still there! Also a perfect distance from Cheddar Gorge which was also very dog friendly and a lovely day out.

The parking situation wasn't great. Parking outside their property is restricted. They do have a very small car park which is first come, first served but people don't tend to park very well making it tricky to get in and out. The only other thing that can't be changed is the seagulls that sat on the roof outside our bedroom squawking from the early hours. That said, they were nice to watch!

Lovely hotel in great location, staff were really friendly, especially to our dog. Nice meal at night and lovely breakfast, would definitely return.

Price of drinks were a little steep in the bar

We had a truly delightful stay at The Old Vicarage. Firstly the building itself, the decor and the garden are all beautiful. Quirky and creative but really comfortable at the same time. (The walls and floors are as uneven as extremely old buildings can be, but the fairly fit 89 year in our party still found them manageable.) We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant or terrace four times in a row, and the food was consistently good - great desserts! The owners and staff are all lovely, helpful without being intrusive. A special mention for Dan who consistently had us in fits of giggles at breakfast - no mean feat! We had planned to visit a number of places locally, and they gave us excellent tips for things like routes and parking. Although there is a one-way system in that part of Bridgewater (very old narrow streets) we felt very well located to be out on our way each day.

A lovely hotel, the staff on duty when we arrived were so friendly & welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The room was warm, cosy & delightful. The bar & restaurant were great, with good food & attentive staff. A lovely breakfast with quality ingredients.

Would have liked breakfast to be served a little later than 9am. Checkout at 10 am seemed a tad early for the type of weekday clientele in the hotel. The breakfast waiter appeared very disappointed with our arrival at 08:45. He was courteous & served the food well, but we didn't feel welcomed. Not enough toast (3 small pieces) & no brown available.

TheDining area & Bar are in the most historic part of the building and are beautifully decorated. The breakfast was very good with great choices. Dinner was excellent service and food. Our bathroom had the best Shower so far during the past two weeks in the UK. Also we were most appreciative of the excellent service we received by Connor during check-in plus for Dinner that evening.

Our room was rather compact but very tastefully decorated. Parking can be a little tricky.

A beautiful historical building which has lost none of its character. The welcome by staff and the owner was exceptional as was the attention of the staff in the restaurant. We had met family for lunch before arriving but couldn’t resist the menu so had starters and dessert! My husband said his soup was one of the most delicious he has tasted. Our room was quirky with sloping floors and creaking boards but the en-suite was very modern with the biggest walk in shower you can imagine.

The only downside was the small car park. It was full when we arrived so we had to park on the road. Luckily as it was Sunday the next day we didn’t have to move the car by 8am.

Breakfast was to order and sufficient, the building is very old so rooms can often be not like the modern hotels. All the facilities were up to date and comfortable and the owner and staff were friendly and helpful .It was warm while we there so we slept with the window open which may not suit everybody.Location is opposite the church in the town centre and 15 to 20 min walk from the railway station. We left early on our last day and before breakfast time..the hotel owner provided us with a continental breakfast pack the night before. It is a quirky building with a nice garden and bar which we liked.

Can’t think of anything we enjoyed our stay in Bridgewater

When first arriving a lady said we weren't allowed in our room until 2.00pm,so we left our car in the hotel carpark and went for a walk and some lunch.we then got our car and drove to Street for shopping at clarks out of town shopping centre which my wife loved and bought 3 pairs of discounted shoes,I also bought a pair of shoes.we arrived back at the hotel and showed to our room 8 which was fabulous with views over the church. The beer in the bar was otter ale which I loved. The food in the restaurant was also first class. The staff were all very friendly and polite so overall a fabulous hotel to stay.

There was not one thing we could complain about . Highly recommend and thank you.

Definitely it is a hidden gem! We stayed there for one night. Our room no. 5 (apparently is the biggest room there) was very comfortable, spacious, clean and had a character. The dinner... Wow. The homemade lasagna was the best ever! And the service was exceptional! The two young men who served us could easily find a job at The Ritz hotel. Extremely professional and polite. You can tell the team spirit is strong, everyone was friendly and happy to help. We also spoke with the owner to express our gratitude for everything. Well done guys!

Everything was perfect.

It's history and location in Bridgewater. we used it to break our journey from Sheffield to Looe. It was imperative that it was dog friendly. It was perfect for us and we were impressed by their garden too. Food was excellent right down to the breakfast sausage for the dog. We also enjoyed two good walks on the river and the canal. We loved the town which we have driven past for years.

Nothing. What it wasn't in terms of glitz and modernity it made up for in originality, charm and history.
