We stayed in lodge 9 with our young children. It was in a great location, quiet and peaceful with views across the grounds from our balcony. We had everything we needed in our lodge; it was clean and spacious and well equipped. All beds were comfortable, even the sofa bed and my kids also enjoyed having the opportunity to use the pool in the main house.

Loved it, few cosmetic issues, some areas looked a little tired, eg lodges could do with painting on the outside, some bulbs were out and also the balcony furniture needed a good clean before we could use it but nothing that really affected our stay.

Stayed in the kitchener suite, got a good price on booking.com. I moved my car outside the mansion house once a large wake gathering had left. Good check in, offered to help us with our bags up the stairs. As we wondered along the corridor looking for our room, a housekeeping lady elaine pointed us in the right direction. She was very friendly and said enjoy, it's the best room in the hotel. It really was a magnificent room. Very large in size, high ceilings, grand windows overlooking the back green. Good tea tray selection, some broome biscuits which were a nice welcome. There was the kitchener gin in a decanter with some tonic, which was nice. Lovely roll top bath, soaker shower, modern bathroom. The lounge area was comfortable with a smart TV, we enjoyed some music on YouTube. We booked at the peacock restaurant for evening meal. Only 3 tables dining in there, it looks like you can eat in the bar with a different menu. The menu is a bit limited but we were pleasantly surprised. We had chicken basquaise and steak Diane. Both were delicious. We ordered a few sides which were a lot larger in size than we expected! The salad, chips and onion rings were lovely. The herby mushrooms were quite oily. Great service from the too young lads in the restaurant. Comfortable nights sleep. Good breakfast in the morning, choice of cereals, some fruit, yoghurts, mini pastries, bread and menu choice of hot food. We had the full broome and salmon and scrambled eggs, which were delicious, it was a bit of a wait for it to arrive but worth the wait! Nice to have it freshly cooked, as opposed to some hotels where it sits under lights in buffet style getting over cooked. My poached eggs were perfect! The tomato spread on the mushroom was a bit strong for my taste, would have preferred an ordinary fried tomato. Nice ladies in the breakfast room. We look forward to visiting again next march when my cousin gets married there!

The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of my needs. I felt like a VIP & family. The building itself has a magical & comforting vibe. The food was great. For an older dwelling, modern conveniences were kept up to speed, within reason, without losing the integrity of the historic landmark . Rooms were very spacious. There are a lot of activities to keep busy, as well as serene gardens to relax.

It was a little bit of a distance from any city life.. Having a car would be ideal but, There is a bus stop at the top of the driveway that goes to town. Taxis run 40 pounds each way & can add up. Remember to stock up on snacks & drinks for the room. The bar & restaurant is very accommodating with a good selection, great quality & very prompt room service. It is nice to have other things on hand however.

Arrived 'injured' after my Mercedes powered boot unexpectedly closed down on me causing quite a 'gash' and severe bleeding - the Assistant Manager dressed it for me as H&S First Aider - very professional and as it occurred at a service stop on our journey down, I was very pleased he did it - no fuss and a really good job. All the staff very friendly and professional felt genuinely welcomed - nothing too much trouble. Breakfast excellent over 5 days - good selection. Ate in dining room - felt the menu was limited for the class of the hotel - but the food was good and compensated - in room service menu sufficiently varied and good value - no service charge! The hotel is commendably very clean bearing in mind the room refurbishments being undertaken and no 'intrusive noise' detectable. Staff were cleaning the banisters at 11 p.m. - shows the attention to detail. Room service very good and hospitality items replenished daily. Lovely imposing recently refurbished suite were happy to chill out on the day we met friends nearby for an evening meal. Weather was cold for time of year of our visit - April 2023 but the room was heated as much as the grade 1 listing allows - but slightly chilly - but not uncomfortably so. The bed was very comfortable. Really enjoyed our visit and would recommend to those seeking the experience of staying in an English Country House Hotel - you won't be disappointed - might revisit in the future - a compliment as we rarely do this as we like to explore different areas - ideal stay for hardened golfers - you won't be disappointed! 2 -3 groups were staying during our visit and really enjoying themselves.

The rather limited evening menu for the style of the hotel. Also the lazy guests that can't be bothered to close the entrance doors behind them as they leave and unnecessarily contributing to the chill of the main lounge / reception area. Overall not a lot not to like.

.Location to crematorium was the reason for choosing hotel as we were attending a family funeral. Refurbed areas of hotel promise good things in progress.

Breakfast was good first morning (Friday), poor the second (Saturday) - overcooked poached eggs & bacon in the Eggs Benedict (which should be eggs & ham). Scruffy areas of hotel - plastic bags stuffed in void under main staircase (ddn't investigate what was in them) & smoking area to left of front door with broken pots left, empty beer bottle etc. As a smoker I don't object to using a designated area but would like to feel I'm not being treated as a 2nd class citizen.

Beautiful setting. Room/suite had stunning views over the front & rear grounds/golf course. Very comfortable & spotlessly clean. Good supply of beverages & toiletries/towels. Staff were lovely. Polite, friendly & helpful. A real credit to the hotel & their profession. Food was good & we particularly enjoyed breakfast on the second morning.

Room/suite is dated. However, upon speaking with staff, we discovered it's due to be refurbished in the new year. We have reserved a refurbished room for a return visit later in the month. The updated rooms look amazing. Can't wait to come back.

The building and grounds are attractive and there is ample parking. We found the location very convenient. The very spacious room we had in the main building gave exceptional vale for money. It was a little dated but in some ways that wasn’t a problem as it had character.

It was a great pity that the nice stay we had was marred by the fact that when we got up and prepared to head for the ferry crossing there was no hot water . I think the large rooms on the top floor have their own boiler and it had clearly developed a fault. There were notices in the room which suggested their old system could be temperamental. The guy on reception responded with ‘ I can only apologise’. This issue would not put me off going again. Up to that point everything had been great , and on another day all would have been good.

Our lodge was lovely, well presented, and clean. The staff were fantastic, so helpful, and we really appreciated all they did for us. The main hotel had great resting areas, including a brilliant snooker room. The outdoor area was also nice. We had a lovely stay, just wish we had time to try all the facilities.

The beds were squeaky as they were partially on wheels. We went for dinner and were not made aware that we could also choose from the bar menu, which was a little cheaper and perhaps more suitable for our needs and our children's. However, the food was amazing!

The lodges are so beautiful would love to stay again in the Spring. Love the décor in the lodges they are very nice and spacious. I was with my parents and the onsite shower room was great for them as they have some mobility issues. It was so nice of Amy on Reception to change our Lodge for one with disabled parking when I mentioned it so they didn't need to walk far with cases etc.

Beds a little hard but not the worse I have had. Could do with better sign posting we found driving around a little confusing. Main house bit dark but we arrived on a very rainy windy day and when we had a meal in the restaurant it felt cold and a little uninviting but staff where lovely we really liked Owens charm.

Location was amazing, the room was superb with great view onto a wild life area lots of birds to see. The staff were so friendly and helpful especially when we asked for tables at breakfast could be put together so all eleven of our family who were in different rooms could sit together a great way to finish our weekend. Thank you.

The very loud noise made when the toilet was flushed made it impossible to flush during the night. It also even when washing your hands the machinery again made noise. It also worked when the shower was in use. Obviously required to get rid of water but just so noisy!!
