Staff very friendly. Good position close to Park & Ride, but also good walk into city centre. Car parking free on site, (but must register vehicle inside at the bar). Good selection of food at restaurant. Breakfast is table service (not buffet), although you do get your own drinks. Lots of outside seating for when weather is good. Would recommend staying here.
As an old building, bedroom floors were creaky and every step taken in room above us sounded like an elephant was walking around. Also, we retired early due to having walked miles that day, and the bass sound of the bar music below thudded through until it stopped at 10pm (I did mention to staff member next morning, who apologised and explained that speakers are fitted high up near ceiling level downstairs - we had a first floor room). Overall though, a lovely place to stay.

Booked at The Old Gate Inn twice to break up a long car journey between England and Germany. Just 20 minutes drive from the Dover ferry terminal. Both nights were great. Quaint old rooms, a comfy bed, and a good shower. A good selection of drinks and evening meals, and a freshly cooked breakfast. Plenty of secure parking available. Staff were all friendly and professional, and made time to chat with us. All in all, a nice, comfortable experience. Thanks.
A little renovation work was being undertaken when we stayed, which meant our bedroom view was slightly hindered by scaffolding. But hey, it's an old inn and needs occasional tlc, so no big deal.

Friendly staff, cozy and clean rooms. The pub provides great food and drinks. The breakfast was tasty, but make sure to take the full cooked or veggie breakfast if you're really hungry (the other options come in rather small sizes). We would come back any time.
Our room was too hot because one of the windows was broken and could not be opened. The staff was aware of this and waiting for it to be repaired, so it should be fixed soon. The street in front of the hotel is rather noisy, so the remaining window had to be closed as well during the night.

We had a really lovely stay here, and wholeheartedly recommend it. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was super comfortable and it was almost silent. we came down for dinner on Friday night and were amazed to find the pub heaving with people as we couldn’t hear a sound from our room! the road was quiet, no disturbance from adjoining rooms. The breakfast was great, The location is great, although on the outskirts of the city, it’s no more than a 30 minute walk to the cathedral. With free parking it worked out as exceptional value overall when compared to other hotels in the centre.
We ate in the restaurant one evening, but it seemed a little expensive for pub food, and for the portion sizes.

Fantastic stay. this place was unassuming from the outside but the staff were accommodating and friendly, the room was cosy with a comfortable bed and incredibly clean bathroom. The pub serves great food for dinner (I would definitely recommend eating here) and great breakfast. For the price paid, this place has got it right. Just check the location as it was perfect for me who needed to get to the hospital for work (and avoid city centre). I simply parked here and it was an easy 15-20 min walk. Would not hesitate to stay again.
In all honesty, nothing to say bad about this place. Highly recommend. My thanks to all the staff - really friendly and accommodating!

The venue was very accommodating of all of our needs, welcoming, clean and warm. Its easy to get into Canterbury from here and we stayed ahead of a wedding the next day so its very easy to get to Canterbury wedding venues as well. Though we didn't use it, the late check out at midday is an excellent option.
The night before they agreed to make us breakfast a little early as we needed to get away for my wedding but when we got up the kitchen equipment wasn't on so ours options were limited. That said, this is me really scrapping for a reason because making us any breakfast early at all was massively appreciated! The rooms were also pretty hot but we could manage that.

Our host was friendly and attentive, the room was clean and nicely decorated, with a lovely hot towel rail and radiator that could be turned on or off. Fluffy towels, clean bed linen, a comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. The pub itself was cosy and nicely decorated too. Deliciously cooked breakfast and staff were freindly and helpful. Located right next to the Park and Ride so very convenient!
A lot of hotels offer continental and cooked breakfast in the room price, this one only offered one or the other. The evening meal service was slow on the Saturday due to it being fully booked that night, perhaps understaffed on that particular day.

Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Great late checkout of 12pm! Room was very spacious and good value in the area. Towels and toiletries provided. Tea and coffee making supplies. Nice shower!
The room temperature was a little bit unbearable at times, after turning off the radiator it was still very hot. The main door to the room and the bathroom door didn’t close quietly, so needed to be slammed shut. The extractor fan in the bathroom was also loud when in use. It didn’t dampen the stay too much but a little more attention to detail with those more minor things would have made the stay amazing.

It was just as expected … a quaint, older, quiet pub and inn. We didn’t want to visit England and stay in a big franchised Hotel. Comfortable bed. The room included a couch (which would make into a bed). The bathroom was very clean and updated. And all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Gave us some great advise on visiting in downtown Canterbury. And dinner was convenient, just ran downstairs.
The only way to get your bags up to your room was carry them. But many places we stay in England are the same. That’s it.

on arrival manager met us a booked us in and was very welcoming, his assistant showed us to our room showing us fire escape and muster point( a first). room was spotless in’s very comfortable only point ( not a complaint) room heating could do with turning down a bit , other than that shower , room and facilities perfect. staff at the bar were very cheery and when we asked before going up to our room for extra tea bags and milk were only too happy to bring them up even going down again to bring tea bags which had been forgotten. we didn’t have an evening meal but had the breakfast, fresh cooked and very nice , manager constantly checking if everything was to our liking ( not excessively). all in all would recommend this place , only tip I would give is that we found getting a taxi into town impossible on Saturday but that’s not the hotels fault . cannot understand some of the negative feedback that other customers have given
nothing
