I've always liked staying at this hotel before it was taken over by Marriott. It is still having a refurb as I write, but that didnt disturb my stay too much. I had an exectutive twin room which was hugely spacious, and a beautiful bathroom. Robes, slippers were a nice touch. Daytime reception, bar/restaurant staff friendly, professional and nothing too much trouble. Maintenence men again very helpful, friendly when I had issues with my TV. Ample parking and dog friendly Pool, steam and sauna was a treat. £108 for two nights on booking.com, can't complain about the price or the location just outside Colchester city centre.

Minor details. Duvets were too thin for November, and the heating wasnt sufficient, even turned up to 30 it didnt produce enough heat. My room was situated to the rear of the building so no views and a very busy A12 which could be heard throughout the night and early morning. Night concierges were not welcoming or terribly friendly and certainly not open to any form of banter. Pool has lockers that dont lock, so nowhere to store valuables - leave in your room.

My sons wedding was held there on 2. 12. 24, lovely hotel, staff were amazing, rooms great, food lovely, . Only disappointing thing was the DJ I. The evening, it wasn't the normal guy , Shaun, who is fantastic, may I add, we had an older gentleman named Ron, who was rubbish to put vitamins bounty, he played one song out of my sons playlist, you couldn't understand him , talking through the Mic, it was too close to his mouth, he messed up their first dance, we weren't impressed at all with him. Other then that an amazing day, , ditch Ron !!!!.

DJ, Ron, was appalling, played one song from my sons playlist, started the evening plays 70,s music, even i didn't know them , n I'm 60, my son n bride are in their 20,s. He messed up their first dance, ! Couldn't understand him , when speaking through mic, wasn't happy with him at all, he needs to retire, the whole day, wedding was perfect, apart from this DJ Ron.

I've stayed here before a few years ago, so i had an idea of what the room would be like, but i was pleasantly surprised to find that they been renovating a load of the rooms which were really nice compared to the old rooms which were looking a bit tired.

Sadly they were having wifi issues throughout all of the rooms, so while we were trying to work in the morning before we checked out, this made it very difficult. This was an issue that they were in the middle of fixing and we were just unlucky that i happened on the day we were working. It happens, they were super nice about it and other parts of the hotel (lobby & bar still had wifi and were ok).

Ideally situated. However after booking and paying for the stay in advance, on the day of my arrival I was sent a text message to say that renovation work was being carried out. Upon arrival, there was a temporary reception where I was informed that electrical works were being carried out along with other building works. Sadly the Wi-Fi was poor and I could not complete my work. In view of this I checked out earlier than planned. Have received discount from the hotel for a prepaid breakfast and a partial refund from the booking company. It would have been better if I had known in advance of booking of the renovation work being out. Having said that and in all fairness to the hotel, all the staff members that I met were very friendly and helpful. One last point to mention is that there was no noise from building works during my short stay and the works / decoration to some of the rooms were excellent and I will consider staying there in the future, once all works have been completed.

Pet friendly, but they do charge more than most. Good sized comfortable rooms and very comfortable beds. Air conditioned. Plenty of parking and easy to access. Nice gym and pool facilities. Excellent and friendly staff. I'd be happy to stay there again as I liked the venue and it seemed like they are in the process of updating facilities.

It's good that they are doing updates so whoever owns the hotel has good ideas, but they need someone detail oriented to check the work. The room was renovated, but had no toilet roll holder, the bathroom light around the vanity mirror was on all night as there was no switch, and no room safe (the staff said they should be there but they were nowhere to be found). I was moved from my first assigned room as the window lock was busted and the room couldn't be locked, which obviously isn't ideal.

The hotel has undergone a recent refurbishment and the room was absolutely superb. Modern, fresh and stylish. The bathrooms were lovely. The room was air conditioned, and very quiet so made for a very comfortable nights sleep on a hot summer night. The beds were very comfortable. Full english breakfast was nice. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Check out the American diner just across the road (a 2 minute walk away) for very good friendly service and lovely food

When we were there the refurbishment had not quite reached the pool area yet, so this could do with a little lift. But we weren't put off, we enjoyed it anyway, along with the gym, sauna and steam room.

The room was extremely big, the bathroom was beautiful, well appointed and very modern. The staff were all great - all the staff we met were exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful. The pool was lovely, although you have to exit the hotel and walk a short distance outside to get to it.

There are still ongoing renovations, so some of the common areas are unfinished but apparently will be by Christmas. The Executive Double didn't have a coffee machine which was the reason I booked that room but the staff said this was a listing error on Booking.com. The bed was quite hard, not to my liking but my husband liked it. I would have preferred to access the leisure facilities from inside the hotel rather than walk outside and round through the car park to get to them.

The hotel is under refurbishment at the moment, but signs said there would be no work noise outside of 9am-5pm and we didn't hear any noise. We stayed in a refurbished room and it was excellent - beautiful bathroom, excellent shower and a comfortable bed. There was no external noise at night and we slept well. Breakfast the next morning was very good - all you can eat, with usual selection of drinks, cereals, hot items like bacon, sausages, egg etc. We enjoyed the steam room, sauna and swimming pool.

The free wifi was unusable. Although I connected to the network, the signal was very poor, and I couldn't get a webpage to load. Fortunately my mobile phone signal was good, so I just used this instead to watch Netflix in the evening.

Lovely hotel for all ages Under going renovations but that didn't affect our stay. Good selection of hot/cold breakfast for all tastes Nice little 15ft pool on site that we were lucky enough to have to ourselves when we visited We had two connecting rooms (Dolce was fantastic in helping me to ensure that was possible) Dog friendly rooms available too 😊 so we didn't have to leave out pooch behind

Breakfast was ok but would benefit from more frequent replenishing as to not dry out

Nice bedroom clean and well maintained although the carpet has seen better days. The staff are really nice and friendly nothing is too much trouble for them plenty of choice at breakfast we would stay again if in the area

We had a downstairs room,107 the view from the window let the hotel down there was a door from the hotel not sure where it led from maybe back of reception? It led into a court yard and immediately out side the door there were so many cigarette butts all over the ground and an old table dumped out there making it very unsightly ok we didn't visit the hotel to stare out of the room window but when you do look out like when your opening and closing the curtains or even just checking the weather a tidier view would be nice
