Stayed in a cottage, knowing there was building work going on, so a little unfair to judge. But the space was great, everything worked, the bed was comfy, the kichenette very handy, the outside area invaluable, and the staff very helpful.

While the cottage walls are well sound proofed, the doors are not, and stick. So anyone using them in a nearby cottage wakes everyone up. A rather impractical interior designer also seemed to have run wild - so, for example, dark paint and no lighting to read by, logs piled up and no fire, etc, etc. Most of this was no real problem - and maybe the builders will sort the doors. That really would help.

I'd stayed here 8 years ago, they've made a few changes. Cottage was great, there were 4 of us, and we were not disappointed. Plenty room in cottage, used kitchen & everything was fine, number was 303. Only negative was that the ceiling in main double downstairs requires painting better, but thats being picky. Meals were lovely, used gym, sauna & pool, all excellent. Bar area was good, pool & darts available & watched golf on final day. Staff were very friendly & helpful, lovely relaxed atmosphere in the hotel, we will be back. 👍

As said above, the decor on ceiling in room 303 required redoing but that was a minor fault.

Hotel and staff were lovely. However not happy with booking.com and the way they advertise. We thought we had booked dinner bed and breakfast only to be informed that the booking was for breakfast only. If we knew this and the advert was clearer we would have booked the cheaper option which includes breakfast!!!! I perceive this as false advertising and would appreciate someone contacting me as it makes me reluctant to book via booking.com in the future. Feel conned as this was for my grandson’s birthday and his first stay in a hotel !!!!!

Pool could do with a tidy and spruce up

The hotel was decorated beautifully and the rooms were nice and modern with beautiful views. I was staying with my daughters and they loved using the swimming pool. The weather was amazing when we were there and the hotel had a bouncy castle and park that kept them amused for ages. The staff were also friendly and helpful. One of my daughters fell over and cut both knees and the lady on reception was so attentive helping to clean her up and providing plasters.

Our room had a bit of a smell to it, I’m not sure if it was the drains. The pool was a little run down looking and there are only communal changing rooms which I’m not a fan of.

Friendly, helpful reception staff, and lovely well equipped rooms. Also plenty of parking.

For some reason my key stopped working after breakfast so I had to join an extremely long queue at reception (of those who were checking out) to get it reactivated just so I could get back into my room to finish packing. The girl on reception was lovely and reassured me I wouldn't be penalised if I went past the checkout time a little because I'd had to wait a while in the queue, but it was a bit of a stressful checkout while waiting anxiously in the queue, and having just 1 extra person on reception at such a busy time would have helped a lot. Also at breakfast there were a couple of good staff on but there were also a couple of unhelpful staff, my friend had to ask 3 times for something. Breakfast fare was ok but not sure it was worth the extra cost.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Staff could not have been more helpful, going above and beyond to fill water bottles for us after check out. Wonderful breakfast. Pheasants roaming the grounds and fantastic views from room.

Front door was unfortunately locked when we returned at 1:30am during our stay after a wedding nearby. Nobody answered the buzzer, we eventually got hold of a night porter by calling a number provided during check in who was lovely and very apologetic. Would be good for management to advertise that the doors will be locked, and allow guests to suggest what time they might be back so that they do not need to stand outside in the cold for long trying to find the right number.

We booked a courtyard double but when we arrived were given a twin room with 2 double beds. I travelled with my 12 year old daughter who was very impressed. The room was lovely, clean and quiet. And the view from our window was beautiful. We went for a swim in the pool which at first was a little busy but soon we virtually had it to ourselves. Towels were provided and lockers available. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety to cover all taste. Staff were friendly and I was able to adjust our evening meal booking no problem via email. We also enjoyed an afternoon tea which anything we couldn’t finish was boxed for us to takeaway.

The only thing we were not keen on was no cubicles to change at the pool. But wasn’t a major problem. As it was quiet we used the shower cubicle to change.

The location was blissfully quiet, surrounded by countryside. The room and ensuite was clean and beautifully appointed with a massive superking bed. Had a late lunch in the Antler Bar and Terrace, the fish and chips were fantastic with whisper-light batter. All staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. I stayed here for convenience for an event in Consett, but will definitely return for a proper break here to take advantage of the location and health facilities I didn't wasn't able to this time.

I liked everything. Absolutely no complaints.

The food in the restaurant was amazing, great cooked breakfast, the bed was massive and so comfortable. The decor is modern and contemporary and you can tell a lot of money has been spent. The bar area is comfortable and has a relaxed vibe. Setting in so peaceful and quiet. Towels are provided for the leisure facilities and bins to put used ones in. Need a £1 for the lockers which we did not have so we were loaned one by staff. As it was the end of the xmas holiday families occupied the pool area and was busy but we utilised the sauna until it was quieter.

If had to be really nit pick, the shower was not the best. The doors did not glide well and there was nowhere to place shampoo etc at an accessible level. Perhaps a wall mounted dispenser may be a good idea?
