Really nice room with comfortable beds, and no noise from other rooms, even though most were occupied. A very friendly welcome from a young lady in the bar who helped my husband carry up our suitcases to our room.

The breakfast was in the very cold bar - a smaller room which could have been heated, or more heat in the large bar, would have made the experience much more pleasant. The breakfast was OK, but my smoked salmon with srambled eggs was not the best - it came as a pile of scrambled eggs with tiny bits of cooked smoked salmon stirred in, and slightly burnt toast on the side. It was a very windy night, and there was a loud whistle all through the night coming from the tightly closed window in our room (Castle).

It was the second time staying at the anchor inn whittonstall snow on the ground the anchor looked like a Christmas card on arrival the owner couldn't be more helpful The room was ready for us we went down to the bar sat in front of the fire and enjoyed the ambience we have eaten at the restaurant on our last visit and the food is excellent and this time it was just as good table staff excellent couldn't be more helpful we stayed for two nights the bus service to Hexham on the Saturday is brilliant the bus pick's you up outside the pub and drops you off right outside on return also the breakfast at the anchor is probably the best we have had on a weekend break the girls doing the breakfast service are top class as are the owner's and the bar staff. many thanks Kevin and Theresa

Brilliant 3 night stay for New Year Room lovely, spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable King size bed, beautiful bed linen , towels and dressing gowns. ( wee issue with radiator thermostat we were roasted @ 31degs so got the manager to turn it off completely this didn’t change our rating in the slightest) Restaurant & Bar just perfect as was the exceptional food, fantastic menu , so much to choose from. Thank you so much to Dan & the team for a lovely stay to celebrate New Year Anne-Marie & Davy ( Edinburgh)

Nice room , nice pub and good choice of food, breakfast was very good and staff were good throughout.

Not a lot really, on the whole very good, I think our choice of evening meal was not so tasty compared to other choices. So would not choose that again, we had beef stroganoff, however good portions and other meals looked really good. Breakfast however was excellent and staff very good, staff were in fact all very nice from welcome at the start to breakfast in the morning. Would defiantly return, good value for money.

2 night stay for New Year. Lovely pub. We had a luxury king room which was exceptionally large with a view over the countryside and lovely and warm with a very comfortable bed having beautiful white bed linen together with white fluffy towels that were actually large enough to wrap around yourself (luxury) Food was exceptional with so much choice and that included the breakfast as well. Credit to all staff who worked hard and were very friendly. Plenty of car parking. Will definitely call again.

Nothing to dislike.

When the hotel/pub was busy the breakfasts tended to be excellent however when it was quiet the standard dropped as the cleaning staff were put in charge. Our bedroom was large and well furnished. The bathroom was well equipped with plenty of hot water. The hotel/pub was generally quiet at night for the entire two weeks.

The hotel/pub was very business orientated and not particularly friendly. The covid card was still being played to some extent as the bedroom was not serviced daily as should have been the case pre covid. However to be fair it was always serviced on request usually every three days or so.

The staff and food was excellent, nothing too much trouble for the ladies serving meals, and so friendly and helpful. The meals are freshly cooked and would satisfy the biggest appetite, the 10 ounce fish and chips are what proper fish and chips should be, no dry oven cooked rubbish. Thin batter plenty cod and moist soft chips. Then there's the pies ! No meat and potato and that's it ! Combinations you would not think of, but they are delicious and filling. It's a 10 from me !!

The room was nicely furnished & a good size with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The food was very good & considering the slightly remote location, the restaurant was extremely busy, which speaks highly of the food. They serve the largest selection of pies that I’ve ever seen.

My partner loves a hot shower so she wasn’t impressed with the highest setting only achieving warm. It would have been good if the heated towel rail had been on.

The Anchor is in an exceptional location with great countryside to the front of the property where our room ( The Dere) was located. We had two evening meals and two breakfasts in-house all of which were of an excellent quality and very tasty. The lady on breakfasts was very friendly and gave us some really good tips about the area.

Whilst the bedroom and en-suite were clean and comfortable the bathroom grouting and sealant could do with a freshen up as they are showing signs of wear and discoloration. This is not a cleaning issue more of a maintenance job.
