one of the staff at the reception is not very nice. we are not sure she is an anti-Asian. she told us we had to wait 3 hours to check in. I think it was too long to wait, so I and my friend went to the common bathroom to make up so that we can visit any attractions first. after we finished and went back to the reception for our luggage, one nice male staff told us our room was ready. We could have a private room to make up.:( it was not very nice.

Location was perfect and the view from our room was amazing! The room was spacious, clean and bright. Bathroom was roomy and fully equipped with toiletries. Reception was friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to be told we were upgraded from a double standard room to a king sized bedroom in the 4th floor with windows overlooking Princes Street and the castle!

Nothing to complain about and we’ve stayed in many B&Bs, hotels, and flats in Edinburgh. This by far the best value for money!

Fabulous view, central location, very clean everywhere and every member of staff was so friendly. Can't wait to go back there. Superb buffet breakfast. The room was very hot but we had a fan. All facilities were catered for in the room but it was really the location that was the basis of my decision, so nice to be able to pop back to the room whenever you like. Naturally there was a fair bit of noise coming up from the street, it's on Princes Street, but we love feeling like we are in the throng of the city hubub. We were lucky enough to have a room with a view of not only Edinburgh castle but right along Princes Street and Arthur's seat.

Unfortunately the safety box in our room did not work. This was disappointing but not to the extent that we needed to complain to reception.

All staff were very kind, pleasant and hard working, give them a pay rise! Thank you. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel, very good. Bedrooms very comfortable and clean, good old Edinburgh water pressure! Of course despite knowing Edinburgh for 60 years plus, staying in a room with the view from the top of the hotel was wonderful, plus the sun, and proximity of the New Town or Old Town, for visitors to explore all it has to offer, plus a hop across the road to some of our beautiful Galleries, and Princes Street Gardens. By train it is a5 or 10 minute walk to the Mercure, or maybe 20 mins from the bus station.

The location on Prince's Street is excellent for anyone visiting Edinburgh. Railway station, tram stops, shopping all nearby. A short walk to the Royal Mile. The staff are great, especially Gabriela on reception, so cheerful, helpful and professional. Breakfast in the dining room was terrific. Room was very clean, and the bed was excellent. It had a lovely view across the street - Scott monument and the Old City.

Some of the rooms are a bit tired, and need updating. Second floor room facing the street had a great view, but there was an all-night gathering in the bus shelter outside that was a bit loud - next time I'd ask for a higher floor!

The hotel and the rooms were nice, but there was construction going on nearby and it was noisier than I expected. Not to mention the rooms were too warm at night even with the heat turned off, so we had our windows slightly opened and heard the trains/trams/buses running into the night. However, the view from the windows were spectacular; you could see Edinburgh castle, Scots monument, Waverly station, parts of the garden, and more of the city in the distant, so in that since the location was perfect. The breakfast was a traditional fair, with all you could want, scrambled eggs, meat, potatoes, fruits, cheese, pastries, toast, cereal, yogurt, coffee, juice, etc.

Just the surrounding noise at night and the warm being a bit warm.

THE HOTEL'S LOCATION IS EXCELLENT. THE ROOMS COULD CERTAINLY DO WITH UPDATING AND THE SHOWER ABOVE THE BATH WAS A BIT DANGEROUS AS THE BATH IS SO NARROW THAT THERE ISN'T REALLY A FLAT SURFACE FOR YOUR FEET, AND THERE IS NO HAND RAIL ON THE WALL

WE HAD A FIRE EVACUATION IN THE MORNING AND WE HAD TO LEAVE BY THE BACK OUTSIDE STAIRWAY. THERE WAS NO-ONE AT ANY OF THE STAIRWAY EXITS OR ON THE STAIRWAY TO TELL GUESTS WHERE TO GO. WE CARRIED ON FOLLOWING THE FIRE SIGNS ON THE WALL BUT I DID SEE SOME GIRLS RE-ENTERING THE HOTEL AT ANOTHER LEVEL. IF THIS HAD BEEN A REAL FIRE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. WE ENDED UP IN A BACK ALLEY, AND FOR QUITE A WHILE WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE THERE AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I DONT KNOW WHERE THE OTHER PEOPLE FROM OUR END OF THE HOTEL WENT TO - I THINK THEY MUST HAVE RE-ENTERED THE HOTEL AT SOME POINT. IT WAS QUITE A WHILE BEFORE A MEMBER OF STAFF JOINED US AT THE BACK ALLEY.

We hadn’t booked breakfast, as my daughter is coeliac. The receptionist taking our booking asked why we had not booked breakfast. When I told her my daughter is coeliac, she advised that they have cereals, bread and others items which are gluten free. When I went down to breakfast the following morning, I was shown where the GF breakfast cereals were located and was given some GF toast as well. We would also like to say a thank you to the gentleman who retrieved our luggage we had left in our room whilst out shopping. This really made the hotel feel rather homely rather than just a stop off point.

Could find no faults and enjoyed our stay. Just wished it lasted a bit longer.

This was my first of many stays over 4 weeks at the Mercure, and I felt like I was coming home from the first moment. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional and were the reason my trip went so smoothly throughout my entire stay in Scotland. My rooms was lovely and spacious and I had the pleasure of the beautiful view of the castle every night and the delight of dining in the restaurant every night that I stayed with you. I cannot comment highly enough to express my thanks to all your staff; bar, restaurant, breakfast staff, reception, administration and cleaning staff. Everyone was exceptional.

Nil. all good. I was more than pleased with my multiple stays at the Mercure and I will be sure to stay again when I am next in Edinburgh.

The location was superb. Staff were pleasant and helpful beyond the call of duty (special thanks to Kimberley and Victoria). I paid extra for a room with a balcony, and it was worth it -- the view was spectacular.

Many reviewers had stressed that the hotel is worn and in need of TLC, and even in my upgraded and rather splendid room that aspect could be seen when you looked. I paid for one of the best rooms, with a balcony, and am glad I did so; but if I'd had an ordinary room, I believe I would have felt overcharged.
