The location was perfect. It was a short walk from the train station. Apparently my room had been upgraded because I had a lovely view of the Sir Walter Scott statue and Old Town. You can walk to the major tourist sites. The room was small but I was comfortable and a room with a view is special to me. The bus stop for the bus to the airport is just around the corner. I had to leave earlier than the time the included buffet breakfast opened. I was able to order a room service breakfast though which was very helpful. I would stay here again.

There are some steps to get into the lobby. They will carry your luggage for you if you ask. Once in the lobby there is an elevator. But the entry steps are a disadvantage for those of us who find carrying suitcases uncomfortable for our aging bodies.

Location was brilliant central to everything transport, tourist attractions and plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. Bar staff Jason and Matilda are friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable and spacious

Only thing for me was the type of room. I chose an internal room so there were no windows or view, which was my error but I wouldn't recommend.

The hotel is an old building but was very clean and well furnished. Our room overlooked Princess Street and the wonderful vista of the Walter Scott Memorial. Although the windows were old they did manage to keep most of the noise of the street subdued. We were there on one of the hottest days of the year so the room was very warm. We slept ok by taking the cover off the duvet and using that as a sheet. The bathroom and shower were spacious, as was the room, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful and good value. From reviews we thought the stairs might be a problem however even though I'm waiting for a hip replacement they presented no problem. There are several small flights of 4 to 6 steps rather than one steep single staircase so don't let that put you off.

We experienced no problems at all.

The hotel is in a great location The hotel is spotless The rooms were clean and tidy the en suite was spacious and clean, complementary shampoo/shower gel provided. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a little selection of biscuits for the guests (nice touch) Small travel iron and small ironing board in the room. Hair dryer provided (We recommend you take your own) Staff are friendly and helpful, always around, never needed to look/wait for anyone The breakfast was very tasty and plenty of it.

You have to go up stairs to the next floor for the reception area, not good when you have heavy suitcases to carry up. Be mindful when booking it is next to a very busy main road, so ask for a quite room when booking.

Hello..The room was very nice and also a lovely bathroom on the 1st floor. It has an elivator, so perfect. The only thing, it was bit noisy because the Princes Street also during the night but this is to accept with a room and view to Princes Street and Waverley Station and area. The breakfast was in a beautiful room and very delicious and many tables also on the window with the view to Princes Street and the Castle. Also the bar room is lovely and very nice to relax. The location of the hotel is very good, just a short walk to Waverley Station, Tram Station to the Airport and Calton Hill for excample.

Location is excellent; walk to Waverly train station and airport bus/tram; walk to castle and old town, new town also. I was given a room at 6th floor (a sort of attic); It might be considered a lower quality location, but the view of all the old town was great, bath/furniture updated. I was happy with it.

The beds (mattress) was somewhat worn - not quite comfortable. Reception, lift, etc are at first floor, so you have to carry your suitcases a flight of stairs.

Enjoyed the location. Staff helpful in changing our room easily, no questions asked, which meant a lot. Really enjoyed the sitting areas/the feel of it all. Plus the the bar area even though we never had a drink. Beautiful breakfast/dining room with amazing ceilings. Parking off site that was discounted. Great to have a lift. Housekeeping staff very nice. And many thanks to staff who helped with our luggage. That really meant lots to us as seniors.

Many stairs just to get up to the Lobby. Hubby hurt his knee week before arrival. Too many steps for us seniors. I do believe the hotel mentions this in description though. Just didn’t know we’d arrive with an injury.

The location is fantastic, right across the street from the Scott Monument, within walking distance from many great locations, tram line from the airport stops very close to the hotel, plenty of restaurants nearby, and a larger shopping centre, St. James Quarter, is just a 5 minute walk away. The hotel is a bit old and weary, but personally I found that to only add to the charm. Room was far from small and the bed was huge and the mattress nice and firm. The staff were very, very friendly and accommodating, and I can't really think of a single bad thing to say.

Very spacious room which is unusual in Europe. Hotel directly across from Waverley Station which was a wonderful surprise and made catching the train to London a breeze. Also, directly across from Walter Scott memorial, only one short block from Sainsbury's. Excellent outdoor restaurant across the street. There was nothing not to like about The Old Waverley

Nothing - - - there are stairs from street level to lobby level, but a handsome young Scott came running when we rang the buzzer, grabbed TWO 70 pound suitcases and ran up the stairs with them. Twice. What's not to love about that.

Helpful reception staff, most bar staff friendly and welcoming, very clean and hassle free room, very hot and instant bath water, super view (Princes Street) from our window, very quiet - no unwanted noise, Waverley Station very close, buses and trams (and taxis) by the door, airport bus 20 yards away.

No lift to first floor reception. My two brothers had to cancel bookings because unable to manage stairs (past 80 years). Room price a bit steep, but overall worth the money.
