Our room had beautiful view across river tweed to the Eilden Hills. Location was very good - walk to rail station and 50 minutes direct line into Edinburgh Waverley. Also a short walk by the Tweed to Abbotsford House. Well placed near Galashiels to visit the excellent new National Tapestry Exhibition Centre by road or rail The evening meals were really good - straight forward and good value for money. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Earl grey and regular breakfast tea available!? They sorted a billing problem out very well and quickly!

Up four flights of stairs to our room - may have to go for a superior room on the first floor next time.

The hotel is in a grand, well maintained, Victorian pile in substantial grounds on the outskirts of Galashiels. It's a half-hour walk from Gala station, which we used to get into Edinburgh: 45 minutes on the train and much better than staying in Edinburgh during the Festival. Dinner was very tasty: we'd happily come more often just for dinner if we lived closer. Breakfast is substantial, with several choices of the cooked meal. I'd have welcomed kippers, which I consider to be a Scottish dish, but this wasn't on offer. But we certainly didn't starve. The bedroom was large and comfortable. Bed and shower were particularly good: essential for a hotel.

Breakfast was 0730-0900 Monday to Saturday. That's probably acceptable Monday-Friday but a little early finish on the weekend.

Lovely Victorian house with amazing ceilings. Beautifully decorated in keeping with the style of the building with good quality furnishings but modern facilities. The bathroom was spotless and well equipped. The bedroom, unlike many hotels, had a large wardrobe and lots of drawer space. It also had fantastic views over the countryside including the home of Sir Walter Scott. The breakfast was beautifully cooked and staff were friendly, attentive and could not have been more helpful.

A safe in the bedroom would have been useful.

My room on the 2nd floor was beautiful and spacious with an extremely large bed. The en suite bathroom was spacious also. Although I was booked as a single guest, I felt as though I were given the best room in the house. I only had breakfast daily in the hotel while visiting family in the area, but the menu choices were good for daily variety of hot cooked breakfasts and a buffet table was laid for cereals, fruit, yoghurt and fruit juices. Staff were very friendly and cheerful all the time.

Investment in a lift might be helpful for more senior guests trying to tackle the long staircases. The staff were exceedingly helpful though, in taking luggage up and downstairs for customers. Thank goodness there were only 2 flights of stairs! .. It kept me fit throughout the weeks stay.

Breakfast very good and location excellent. Easy to reach but you will need a car to get into the centre. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Plenty parking, wonderful gardens, classic turret house design and amazing conservatory.

No phone in the room or room service available. Quite unusual. However, this wasn't a big deal for us in the whole scheme of things but we appreciate it could be for others. Might be perceived as being a bit pricey for some people but, overall, we thought it was worth the money.

This is a beautiful building, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The quality of food at breakfast and dinner was outstanding. There is so much venturing to be done around the borders, it's lovely to know that you can you come back to some delicious food and relax in one of the bars. Our room was really comfortable and everything was so clean. Parking is really easy on site as well, making it a perfect stay. Highly recommend!

There are no lifts at this hotel as it is an old house. The staff help you with your bags so it isn't really a problem.

A rather splendid hotel in lovely grounds. Our room was spacious, well appointed and very comfortable (quite grand actually) with a view out over the Victorian (?) glass house. Food was very good indeed, both in the bar/restaurant and at breakfast (breakfast room looks out over garden and tables are set with table clothes). Extremely good value for money. We had booked the hotel as a stop over on a return home from Shetland via Aberdeen - but it would have been nice to have stayed for longer.

Nothing to complain about!

This was a beautiful little hotel. The view from the room was amazing through large bay windows onto the lawn and surrounding countryside. The staff were all wonderful, friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful.

The local rotary was having an event when we arrived. So it was a little difficult to understand where to go to check in. Maybe a sign for hotel check in on days with events would help. The staff were very kind, and it was sorted out quickly.
