It is an old big house. The twins room is a basic one with kettle and instant coffee and sugar. It has a bath tube and electric shower. Nothing special. Breakfast included in the price, we had other expectations but is a menu with same full english breakfast, small portions, some jam, toast, milk and coffee. No variations from it. So for a long stay it will be boring. The beds were comfy, we had a good sleep. Bear in mind the house is 25 minutes maybe more away from Edinburgh. But is a nice and quite place for a couple of nights. As for the price, because it is convenient near the Scotland capital, in very busy summer season, it is quite high. Haddington is a small town, nothing much to do, just walk around.

Several reviewers have describe the hotel as 'tired'. Actually, it has a degree of older dignity. Not fancy, but very comfortable. What really made the difference, and would absolutely make me choose this for our next trip to East Lothian, was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. One of us has food intolerances, and the staff could not have been more on the ball (one minor exception below). We ate at the hotel both evenings, and the dinners were excellent, with sensible portion sizes. Good home made soups to start, well cooked fish, great accompaniments. Mostly though, and I'll say it again, a shout out for the lovely staff. They made us feel very welcome and could not have been more helpfiul and accomodating.

It's a small thing, but so many hotels do not seem to have even a tub of margarine in the fridge! If you can't eat butter, it makes the toast a bit dry!

Warm welcome from Reception staff - who showed us where we could leave our bike. Room was large and comfortable. Evening meal was delicious, home cooked, would recommend. Breakfast was just as good. Hotel was quiet and we had a good nights sleep. Had a walk around the town, which was lovely. Lots of old fancy houses.

Hotel is undergoing refurbishment. Its is currently lacking a lounge - some where comfortable to have a coffee in the afternoon or retire to after dinner. This is because its currently being used as the dining room. I would have liked somewhere to sit for a drink.

The staff they greeted us on arrival were so lovely and very friendly and helpful. We had an early morning appointment to attend during breakfast hours and the staff very kindly offered us late breakfast after our appointment which was very helpful and considerate. The breakfast was wonderful - fresh local produce very good quality. The service overall was excellent cant fault it. Very comfortable room and quiet but great location. Overall we had a great stay here and I would stay again!

The beds were maybe a little too firm for me and the shower wasn’t very high power.

The location was excellent. I didn't know that Haddington was such a beautiful place, and it is near Edinburgh, 30-40 mins drive actually. The mattress was really great, it help us relax so much! An overall excellent experience. Tip of the day: if you have an early flight, just like in our case, and you think you won't make it to breakfast, you can talk to the staff and they will make a breakfast-to-go bag, specially made for you. Splendid!!!

Was pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the beds, the cleanliness, the hospitality and the location. Perfect spot for a lovely walk to the riverside and St Mary's. Great location for bars and restaurants. However no need to dine elsewhere because the hotel menu was great. Dinner was delicious with a nice variety to suit many tastes and served in a lovely decorated dining room. Breakfast was served in a lovely area as well.

I was pleased with everything.

There was a wide range of self service items available along with freshly cooked hot items from the kitchen.

The hotel's policy could be slightly better in terms of taking food and drink to the hotel for consumption. Take away food is frowned upon and should be eaten away from the premises, even a hot drink purchased out with the hotel and brought back to enjoy whilst sitting in the lovely gave cause for the hotel staff to warn off other guests.

Every member of staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities in the room were everything you would hope for and the breakfast was great - quality and choice. A previous review suggested the shower didn't work. They probably didn't realise there is a power switch outside the bathroom as well as the on/off on the shower itself, although this is quite normal.

First impression from the the outside on arrival was not good. Gutters full of weeds and generally looked unkempt. Fortunately this changed for the better when you enter the hotel. You can hear clearly when someone is in the shower in the next room.

Wonderful gem of a hotel in great location to explore East Lothian. Staff extremely obliging and friendly. Very good value. Big room, comfy bed, good food and great service. So good to stay in a charming character filled hotel rather than a soulless box like so many chain hotels. Highly recommended. A credit to the owner in what have been difficult times for the hospitality business.

Honestly, nothing. Keep doing what you're doing!

Clean and well presented. A bit tired in places but on the whole a very nice stay. The staff were extremely helpful and added to the stay experience. I stayed during Scottish Open golf week Thursday to Sunday. Room was clean and comfortable. The food was wholesome and nicely cooked.

Other than looking a wee bit tired from the outside nothing wrong with the property.
