The tower public areas were traditional and very comfortable with cozy sitting spaces, a grand staircase and an amazing library room. Delightful Christmas decorations in all spaces. Good location and close to the city of Edinburg. Staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming but overloaded due to a wedding event. Excellent, plentiful breakfast.

Our room was located in an attic on the 3rd floor accessible only by stairs, which is annoying when you have to carry baggage by your own. The room & the toilet were very small but average with no fireplace, small TV not aligned to the bed and wares in the furnitures. However, the window was very small with limited view to the estate grounds due to a tower cone. In general, the room was not the one that is promoted in the pictures and probably the poorest room of the building. I am quite sure that other rooms are quite better so I strongly recomment to avoid room 311.

This is exactly the style of accomodation you would expect to find in Scotland. The building oozes with tradition with original features intact and professionally incorporated with modern finishing touches for comfort. The public areas are stunning and many, and our bedroom, an executive room, was beautiful, clean and the bed extremely comfortable. You can switch the radiators on, if required, and these are very responsive and heat up very quickly, which can sometimes be a challenge in older buildings, but definately not here. Reception staff, are friendly and comfortable in their jobs, as are the waiting staff as well as housekeeping. This is a well run business, with staff who are happy to be there.

I don’t have any criticisms. I’ve already booked to return in two months time!

Room service breakfast excellent but unfortunately a very small room so eating on knees uncomfortable Smaller room than anticipated as was explained as having dual aspect and had 2 windows on the same wall. There was enough room, only just, for a table that we could have sat at for breakfast Very pleased with dinner as allowances made for my gluten free requirements Lounges areas comfortable

The room wasn't dual aspect as told by staff member and when booking. Disappointing The room was very cold when we arrived and even though reported to reception it wasnt rectified until next day so bathroom also cold overnight and in the morning for a shower Luckily there was already an electric heater in the cupboard.

This was beyond a high expectation I had already set . I had contact the hotel prior to my stay and spoken with Kat and also Lyn. Before I had even arrived at the property, they went above and beyond. They ensured I had a knowledge of the local area, the transportation routes and offered me guidance and the most helpful information. Anything I wasn’t sure of they went out of their way to help me. I arrived at the hotel to the most warm and welcoming smile from the both of them . It honestly felt like I was a returning guest, they are just outstanding. The hotel itself is just a dream. We arrived on a wet day to find the hotel and our room was lovely and warm and waiting for us. There is every attention to detail and the most wonderful rooms, my favourite being the library and the downstairs lounge bar. I must add an incredible lady that evening was serving us and again she was wonderful. As mush as the hotel speaks for itself, it wouldn’t be as wonderful without its staff.

No faults at all.

The experience of staying at this gorgeous mansion plenty of history it's outstanding from beginning to end. You can feel it since you arrive there by the great tree avenue, surrounded by stunning gardens and forest. The principal rooms at the house are all fantastic (wich I liked the most was the library) all in a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere in every moment of the day. We stayed at the Princess Margaret Suite, I have no words to describe it, simply incredible, I felt like a queen for a day! Two king size bedrooms, a marble fireplace, leather sofas and dining area. Brigth, sunny and with the best views to the fountain gardens. The bathroom was also great, with shower, bath, two sinks and Noble Isle products. Dinner at the Bistro restaurant was fantastic too, even we met a charming waiter who speaks spanish perfectly! All the staff is really friendly and proffessional. Congratulations! Would have loved to stay one more night.

Absolutely stunning place! So many areas to sit and enjoy but also walking paths around the property to look around. Dinner was absolutely amazing and very decent prices. Great breakfast also. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We saw squirrels and a fox when walking which was great. We wish we could afford to stay longer it was so beautiful.

We could only fault two things with the whole stay. There are only 2 rooms with 4 poster beds and using Booking.com doesn’t really let you know if that’s what you’re getting or not so we were slightly disappointed (although the lovely reception staff did email back after booking). The second one was that the bed had a hard mattress in such a luxurious, expensive suite - a simple mattress topper would fix that but we didn’t have a good sleep due to the hard bed.

We stayed overnight after a family event held in the afternoon. The room we were given was spacious and very comfortable. The setting, being a country estate, was extremely quiet. Dinner in the evening was superb with a delicious, well presented meal from a menu that did not overwhelm. The emphasis is on quality & service.

The breakfast room is different from the Campaign Room where other meals are served. The food was lovely but the space is vast and scant with very plain, slightly worn seating and tables. Definitely "Below Stairs" atmosphere. However, the attentive staff made up for that. I wouldn't be put off by this.

From entering the property to leaving everything was perfect. The staff couldn’t do enough for you, the room was warm and well appointed and the decor was very opulent, felt like lord of the manor. Breakfast was amazing. The gardens are awesome, the woods lead onto Queens Mary’s Mount. Close to Wallyford rail station where you can leave your vehicle and take 8 min train journey into Edinburgh. Brilliant weekend, sad to leave, will be returning with other family members for special occasions for future.

It would be very harsh to criticise any aspect of our stay.

Outstanding building on nice grounds. The restaurant provided a nice selection of well presented and tasty meals. Breakfast was very good. The ability to explore the various rooms, get a drink from the bar and sit in the lounge or library or other rooms was a great experience. The staff were very accommodating and catered to all of our needs. This property is a definite consideration for those visiting Edinburgh as the train service from Musselburgh(a few kilomtres away) gets you into Waverley Station in 8 minutes at a cost of less than 2 pounds per person. This was a godsend as we visited during the Fringe and Tattoo and hotels in the city were triple what we paid and available parking was almost non existent and very pricey.

Our mattress was very firm and unyielding making for a restless sleep.

The grounds and room were absolutely beautiful. Very few hotels get to offer the kind of luxurious atmosphere a castle (I know it's technically an estate house) like this does. It was truly a great experience, and the staff were very friendly as well. I will say we only stayed for one night, so I feel like I didn't get to really soak in the space as well as I would have liked to, but for the time I was there, I felt like I was living in a dream.

The room was a little smaller than one might expect for a building like this, but I was very comfortable regardless. The bathroom was a little odd but totally sufficient and well-stocked. It was also very clean in the room, the bathroom, the grounds, and the parking lot. I had no real complaints other than the distance from Edinburgh, but that can't really be helped.
