All of the staff members were very friendly and helpful. I was upgraded to a larger room when they saw the size of my luggage, which was a nice touch. The inn is a very old building (several hundred year, I think) with oodles of character and history, but the rooms are modern and well appointed. The location was great - I went for a walk along the historic old town and along the coastal path in the evening and again before breakfast. The dinner was exceptional - I had the best skate wing I'd ever eaten, and I finished off my meal with a delicious pudding of roasted strawberries with sea buckthorn ice-cream and fennel sherbet - gourmet food but not at stupid prices. The breakfast was perfect - not too large to bloat me but filling enough and full of flavour. I also appreciated that they booked me a taxi to get to the ferry terminal at the perfect time, so as not to be waiting around, and also not cutting anything too fine.

As soon as I entered on a VERY busy day I was met by a friendly helpful lady who immediately booked me in and showed me the facilities and my room.I was offered an upgrade on the room but I chose to stay in the room originally allocated as it was so cool ,The Cabin Room. I was asked if I wanted an evening meal and a time agreed and also what time I wanted breakfast. I showered then made my way downstairs for my evening meal, perfect. Great menu to choose from and the food was locally sourced and very well cooked. Service was also very good. I would eat here again even if I was not staying. In the morning I was met by more friendly, chatty staff who brought me a lovely vegetarian breakfast. Everything during my stay was spot on. Well done to all the staff at The Alma you have a great team , keep it up.

The room was fab and spotlessly clean, small but really well designed, with a lovely cosy cabin style bed and nice ensuite wet room. Some nice touches in the room like a Nespresso machine, biscuits and (a simple thing which is always appreciated but not often included) bottles of water. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Delicious veggie breakfast included made this a very good value stay. Atmospheric old pub in a good location near the pier and cinema. Excellent free wifi. Tasty pub grub. Good vibes all round!

As the room overlooked the pub garden, there was a bit of noise in the evening until closing time, but that's to be expected when staying at an inn, and it wasn't a major problem, just something to be aware of.

The property and the room has a lot of character. It was very nice and we would certainly love to come back if we ever travel by boat to Harwich again. The train station is close by and the connection to London is quick and easy. The pub and beer garden looked really nice and inviting.

The bathroom was nice, but the shower was very close to the door. The carpet on the other side of the door was a little damp, probably because of this. In the bathroom you have to be a little bit careful not to get everything (toiletpaper!) wet. We came up with a good strategy for this though ;-)

Very friendly host. Room is very, very clean. Complimetary Nespresso coffee, cookies en bottled water in the room. We have booked a family room and it exceeded our expectations. (a modern room in a heritage house.) Bathroom/water closet is lovely. We have only booked one night to catch the ferry early in the morning. They have prepared sandwiches to bring with us. Thanks! :-) What we like most is the history of the house. (The handbook made me laugh!) This is a perfect place to begin and end your journey when you travel by ferry. We'll surely comeback.

The property has a quirky old fashioned layout. Climbing the narrow stairs and going up and down various steps was much more fun than the usual ‘cookie cutter’ hotels. My particular room has a wet room bathroom with a rainfall shower, which was a nice surprise for this sort of property (the bathrooms do vary from room to room). The bed was huge, with a very soft mattress that you sank several inches into. Things were pretty good in the morning too, with a first class cooked breakfast included.

The Inn is situated in a very old property, but neatly restorated and maintaining all the appropriate charm. It's absolutely fantastic. It also means a steep and narrow staircase and some lower ceilings can be a slight challenge if you're almost 2 meters tall, as I am. We were booked in one of their newer rooms, situated in an adjacent property they recently acquired. The staff is very friendly and helpfull, the food is great (we both ended up eating lobster). And dog friendly!

The homey feel hotel far away from home. Staying at ALMA was amazing. I felt so comfortable, cozy and taken care of. They helped me with my luggage, gave me extra water and was of good assistance if I needed anything urgent. Even though I showed up late for breakfast I still received it, they made me feel so relaxed and welcome. I was able to destress from a very tiring work trip so it was nice to just lean back and take a breather. I already miss staying at this cozy hotel. Even though I dont live in Harwich (I live in Spain), I would probably travel there in the near future just to visit the hotel again. The people there are the friendliest people Ive ever met and the energies at this place was fantastic. Hope to come back there one day! If you are ever in Harwich stay at ALMA - You will not regret it! :-)

I loved the staff the atmosphere, the peace even tho it is a bustling pub. The dinner was sensational and I was so relaxed did not mind being alone.I loved the crabapple jelly at breakfast.

I put the WiFi code etc in as soon as I arrived and did not realise it just switched off so lost so much data …. Should have been told this happens So relaxed that I left my dressing gown and my iPhone charger behind …. So not really a criticism 😂

Quirky , old And modern full of charm. modern we loved all the shelves full of books, the styling of the inn was really lovely. It was next to the pier and quay lovely for an evening stroll. The rooms were beautifully decorated full of character. I liked the numerous water bottles available every where. Great coffee machine. The staff were busy but welcomed us with very cheerful attitude and were very helpful and accommodating .
