Everything about this delightful accommodation was perfect, we stayed in the standard twin room which was in a separate building with private entrance, it was spacious, very clean and comfortable, the shower was excellent with plenty of hot water. There is a breakfast room when there is a choice of cerials, breakfast bars and pastries and a coffee machine for your use and juice and milk in the fridge, for you to use which is included in the price . There is plenty to room to sit and relax in this quiet rooms with a lovely garden too, the accommodation is a ten minute walk from the station and a high street where is a co - op supermarket, a coffee shop, and places to eat , the surrounding countryside has plenty of beautiful walks to explore The self check in and check out is easy to use , WiFi excellent Well recommended for your stay in Kingussie

There was nothing about this accommodation that we didn’t like ,

Location of hotel was quiet with scenic outlook to the rear of property. Lovely room with views and ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. Well placed for walking into the peacefullness of the surrounding hills and well away from the busy walks and hikes of the Avimore vicinity. We stayed 5 nights and loved it. Will return at some point, with our own bowls, cutlery and sugar.

Continental breakfast a little hit or miss. On one occasion no bowls were available for the morning cereal. Another occasion there was no cutlery or sugar. Just little things, but getting these right makes all the difference to the start of someone's day.

There was nothing not to like about this lovely bedsit called "the penthouse". I expect once the renovations are done to the hotel, it will be even better ie to be able to eat and have a few drinks. However, it was only a short walk into the main street and the lovely Duke of Gordon Hotel. The bathroom was big and had plenty of space, the bath was huge, although we didn't have the opportunity to use it. The little kitchenette was enough to heat up food and make a cuppa. The windows in the roof were fabulous, even though the sun goes down so late now, it was wonderful to lay in bed and watch the sky. The furnishings were great and there was enough of everything. It was so quiet overnight and Kingussie had a wonderful feel about it. Would definitely recommend and wish we had the opportunity to stay longer than one night.

The track down to the road could be a little challenging, but at this time of the year with plenty of light it was okay. There is still a bit to do with the grounds to make them look a bit more presentable but suspect that will all occur with a bit more time.

Extremely good value for money - it's an old building and basic but with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. - Clean and quiet - Ample secure parking - Comfortable bed with tea/coffee and TV in room - Microwave and tea/coffee machine available in common area - Easy self check-in and check-out

- The floors and doors were very creaky. Not a problem for me as my neighbour was very quiet but risk of noise from next door - No gluten free options for breakfast - just a suggestion but it would be great if one of the cereal options/breakfast bars were a GF option

September 2024

We stayed here at columba in July 2024 in the main building and decided to rebook for our September stay. Columba house is in a great location. Our room was the Paddock, which was a great size and had its own entrance to the side of the building. There is a microwave, fridge and a coffee machine to use in the main house. There is also a good choice of pastries and cereal to get your day started. There is also plenty of room for parking to the front of the building and also to the side. The area is extremely quiet and very peaceful. I would definitely stay at the property again

Our only problem was there was no shower curtain in the bathroom, this made it a little difficult to shower without the water splashing just about everywhere.

Stayed in the coach house which was self contained with separate entrance and had plenty of room for us to spread out, including a porch for our wet weather gear. There was a large bath as well as a shower and lots of hot water. Chose this as an alternative to camping as the weather was mixed, and would definitely book again. No staff on site and decor quite worn so not a luxury experience, but suited us fine for the price, clean and had everything we needed. Great value for money. The self serve breakfast was a welcome bonus, offering coffee machine, cereals, packaged pastries, juice and long life milk.

Breakfast arrangements might not work so well if the hotel was busy. There was no water available in the breakfast room for washing or drinking and nowhere to leave used bowls and cutlery apart from on the table, leaving it untidy for the next people. Staff didn't always check and top up supplies or clean every day so some days things ran out.

Check in was super easy witth the key box as soon as ypu enter the premises. We stayed in the room called The Spey. The room was an excellent size and perfect fitting decor for being in the highlands. The fact we had a separate bath and shower was superb. It was a lovely touch to have a complimentary breakfast, perfect for a couple like us who were on the go! The use of the fridge in the shared area was a massive help to us as we got to keep our drinks nice and cold. There were a lot of other guests and we couldn't hear them at all, which is always a win. The house was very easy to find, and I did enjoy watching the little birds and rabbits in the garden. This is definitely a property we will be keeping on mind for more of our journeys up north to bag the Munros!

Our shower door needed a little slamming to get it shut. And being only 5ft 4, I couldn't reach the cord to turn the shower on without the use of a chair! So a longer cord in the room would be great! None of that however would ever put me off staying here again.

The Penthouse Suite was very good and comfortable, clean, good value for money. Staff available by phone if required. Lots of parking space and good location.

A few points which would not take much effort to remedy, but would make a big difference. We could have done with more than one mug in the kitchen, and a microwavable glass bowl would be useful (otherwise there is nothing to cook in). Also there is only one dining chair and so only one person can sit at the table - this seems odd in a room for 2. At night, the extractor fan in the room downstairs (with an outlet just below the Penthouse suite windows) was sometimes not turned off - this was very noisy and kept us awake. The latter point is the only thing that would stop us from returning or recommending this accommodation to others. If this could be turned off at night - we would definitely come back.

The room was lovely and clean, the bed was comfortable.

No staff to actually talk to, except by phoning up. It would have been nice if the dining room and bar had been open. The breakfast was minimal and not stocked up, so nothing left at times. We left note on door for room to be cleaned and message on stairs for more toilet rolls but this was ignored, we had to phone up for toilet rolls and then had to go and find them ourselves. Only one chair with the dining room table, we asked for another but did not get one.

Very pleasantly surprised by this hotel! Booked it as it was cheap and everything else in the area is very expensive, not expecting too much but the room was large, very comfortable bed, great bathroom with huge bath and heated floors. Dog friendly too we just had to pay a bit more and the dogs were comfortable on the floor. The room felt quite private like an Airbnb almost because it wasn’t really attached onto the hotel and we could go straight outside from the room. The garden is huge and we sat outside and had a chippy on the little table one night which was lovely. Also liked the breakfast facilities, there was a coffee machine, croissants and pastries and juice, milk, cereal etc. Didnt see any staff but liked that it was all self check in as made it very straight forward and simple! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay for a short break in the area. We walked to the ruthven barracks from the hotel with the dogs and it only took about 25 mins.

Nothing at all - the hotel was fantastic
