This was a great find for us on an overnight stay en-route to Scotland. We had The Nethermost Room, beautifully furnished with a slight view and superb bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed, with bathrobes, slippers and toiletries. And the complementary bottle of beer and flapjacks were a nice touch. The food, both breakfast and dinner, was delicious. Great menu choice for both food and drinks. The hotel is dog friendly and each pooch had their own breakfast sausage. The team were very friendly and polite. We would have no hesitation in returning for another stay.
Absolutely nothing (other than the weather!)

A charming inn with a lovely mix of historical charm, nicely finished spaces, and modem conveniences (has a lift). Our room (Bowfell) had beautiful wood features (dresser, closet, desk, wainscoting, and ceiling beams) and a window wall looking into the nearby hillside. A full-size mirror brought additional light into the room. The overall effect was calming, natural, and befitting of the amazing setting of the English Lake District. Our room was comfortable and of adequate size for our short stay. We also appreciated the convenience of having a restaurant on the premises. Dinner and breakfast selections were typical British fare and both very good.

Rooms are very comfortable. Food is not gastro pub but still very decent. The location is a superb base for a walking or touring holiday of the Lake District.
The level of service and general welcome/friendliness relies heavily on Sam and the leadership she provides for her team. If she's away things can slip a little - not to the point where it becomes a 'bad' experience but it does take the edge off the normally excellent sense of welcome.

The breakfast service was about the best I have ever seen, very efficient and good quality food.
Our room was not what we had booked through Booking.Com. Our confirmation said it would be a dog free room. It was a dog friendly room which was small, with a ridiculously small wardrobe that was made even worse by a boxed in pip going up through the right of it. We paid booking.com £170 per night for the 3 nights in a superior room and ended up in one of the cheapest rooms looking out onto a fence with a guest walk through outside our window. The hotel price for this room was £100 per night, so someone has made a lot of money out of this.

Very dog friendly. Dog breakfast and dinners specially prepared by the chef. Lovely owner Sam, hubby and four legged friends. All the staff are so very helpful and chatty. It felt like home from home. Little things like a grass area to walk dogs in the night, dog tap and shower, dog goody box on arrival. Honestly I think our kraken could stay there without his hoomans. Hooman food amazing. You must try the marmalade gin. Beds like being at home. So very comfy. Easy walks nearby. We walked to Ambleside and back on a round walk.
Honestly, nothing.

The service, the food and the fact that it was dog-friendly. We had booked in to meet friends for lunch and decided to stay as it was a dog-friendly pub/hotel. From arrival to departure, everything was beyond expectation. The staff were friendly and courteous. Our dog was treated so well. We will definitely go back again!
The drainage in bathroom could do with unblocking - the water wasn't draining very quickly from the shower and washbasin.

Gorgeous property that is well maintained throughout. We loved every minute of our stay and wish we’d booked longer! I thought the decor was stunning and just the little touches I.e milk flasks and little bits for our dog. Very clean. Food was insanely good and loved the midweek offers, pudding & curry night wow. Staff were so friendly and attentive throughout our stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better break away, we can’t wait to stay again!
The only thing we found our room very warm but the hotel provided a standing fan which resolved that issue for us!

Everything. The location was incredible and the room exceeded all expectations. The small detail of providing a flask with cold milk to take to your room was genius. It’s the little things that make the difference. Having stayed at various levels of hotels throughout this country over the past forty years, I don’t think I have come across a more friendly, professional, and efficient staff. They provided the perfect balance of looking after you while not being constantly in your face.
Nothing. It was perfect.

After visiting the Queens Head 10 years ago (before the fire) for a drink I have been wanting to stay here ever since. It definitely did not disappoint. Everything was spot on. The room was fantastic with a lovely view, the food both at breakfast and the evening menu were lovely and the location of this hotel is very hard to beat. I must just mention the very hard working team here they are definitely a credit to this hotel and work tirelessly to ensure guest have everything they need.

Beautiful pub/hotel with extremely friendly staff and a very warm welcome. A nice atmosphere and very relaxed – the rooms were great – clean, comfortable and modern. Breakfast was included and was all you could wish for. We also ate in the evening – the host very kindly booked us a table when we booked the room – and the food was fantastic. We couldn't fault this place and would definitely recommend a stay here. We only had 1 night, but there was loads of local information and walks that you could do right from the hotel, of varying difficultly and length. Set right near one end of the Kirkstone Pass, the scenery and local area was just stunning. We'll definitely be going back here. The hosts were just so friendly, it makes a difference when you speak to owners that have put a lot of thought and effort into your stay and their business.
