Kitchen had lots of cutlery crockery cooking utilities and utensils. The toilet and showers were individual not a whole lot in one room and they were just across the hall from the sleeping room. The staff were friendly and helpful and there were lots of families. There were games and books and a lovely lounge and eating area. The food that was served should you choose not to be self catering looked good and reasonably priced. The view was lovely.

We couldn't seem to get the showers to produce hot water but that may have been us. We mentioned it to the staff and they were going to check it but we didn't need it again so we don't know what the outcome was.

Everything! We stayed in the bigger bell tents that were exceptionally clean, ample bedding provided for 5 people. Free wood was given for the 1st night with instructions how to light it. Shared kitchen and facilities were above expectations, whole property is being maintained brilliantly. The view from the tent was amazing, gorgeous sun set plus sighting the RAF fighter jets was cherry on the top. Thank you so much for such an amazing experience. I am going to sign up with YHA for my future travels in the UK.

Kitchen could use with 1 more fridge :)

Traveled by bike then train . Easy to reach 10 min and all down hill , bit harder on return journey due to hill and having luggage. Nice basic room view over Windermere lake excellent. Secure bike shed. Staff friendly and helpful. Good kitchen facilities and decent size dining area again with lake view. All areas clean and tidy. Suitable for couples small families and friends. Not noisy and too busy like some hostel can be. 10 min walk to main road reliable bus service . Must point out that the walk from the main road back to he hostel can take 15 mins or more fairly steep in parts. Would definitely return

WiFi poor in all areas. No TV in lounge which would be useful as the Wi-Fi poor. Could do with a couple of air fryers in kitchen ( well used kitchen appliance nowadays).

Our favourite thing about the YHA was the view from outside (and inside by the window when it was too cold) over the hills and to the lake. It was beautiful! We were a group of 3 and had a whole dorm room to ourselves which was great. There was a sink and mirror inside the dorm which was great! there were plenty of toilets and showers on our floor to use. The staff were super friendly and also let us store our luggage before and after check out. Thanks for our stay ☺️

The beds were very small! I’d say smaller (in width) than a normal single bed so keep in mind when booking! Also a pretty inconvenient spot if you don’t have a car (like us) as it is a 20min walk uphill to the hostel from the main road (and last bus stop).

The location and atmosphere were good and it was a friendly and homely environment. I loved the books on the shelves, the sofas and games provided. The self service kitchen was useful to have. The outdoor eating area was peaceful and beautiful with lovely views on a clear day. The woods around were a quiet and peaceful spot to walk. The food was very good and inexpensive.

The wash area in the bedroom could have had a curtain to provide privacy for guests to change for example. The toilet did not flush easily and was dirty at times due to this. Having dogs coming in and out of the dining area was difficult for one of our group who is scared of dogs. It would be good if dogs stay outside of the eating area as a rule for hygiene as well as to avoid potential unease for people not comfortable with dogs.

Really nice location, clearly signposted. Outdoor and indoor seating for relaxation and meals. Restaurant on site in you don't want to cook but also the added kitchen for those self catering that has all you need. Toilets are shared but plenty of them so it's not so bad, and the rooms are decently sized. Plenty of parking on site and free of charge.

I'm a light sleeper so I didn't sleep too well with the early risers waking up for breakfast. Walls are thin and rooms are placed to the side and above the kitchen/bar area. My kids slept soundly though so it's really only a problem if you are a light sleeper.

The location was excellent, the views across Windermere are awesome, and the Troutbeck valley is beautiful. Townend farm is a 10 min walk up the road and well worth a visit. The food was good and great value with free kids' meals and a well stocked bar. There is also a well equipped self-catering kitchen. We booked a 6 bed room with shared toilet and shower facilities. However, on arrival, we were given a larger room with ensuite, which was a nice addition.

The self-catering area did get quite crowded at times, but only a minor inconvenience.

Booked a quad room (for 4 people) but were given a room for 8 when we got there. The room was spacious, clean, lots of plug sockets, fantastic views of the surrounding area. Shared bathroom facilities were good. The on-site bar and kitchen were great and prices very reasonable. Self-catering kitchen was compact, but well equipped. Didn't struggle to get parking.

Thin walls in rooms so you can hear your neighbours if they're talking loudly.

Excellent picturesque location, with exceptionally friendly and approachable staff members. The hostel was very clean, comfortable, and the on site food was very tasty and good value for money.

I wasn't expecting such a trek from the roadside to the hostel itself, especially in a sudden torrential downpour. Onsite WIFI is very 'hit & miss' and phone signals are very weak, making it difficult to keep in touch with family and friends back home. Very noisy throughout the nights from other residents returning and leaving from their rooms.

I thought the hostel was great. Great location, great view, friendly staff, nice area to sit, cook and eat. Nice woodland area for the kids to play in. Teens loved playing the board games. Chatted to people in the kitchen are, everyone is friendly. Would definitely stay again 👍

If you have a family (6 bed) and are in Room 6, this is right above the front door and above part of the common room. If you want an early ish night for the kids, it will not happen in this room. Noise is to be expected but, if there is a loud person downstairs it’s sounds like they are in the room with you. Staff asked residents to quieten down by 10:30pm which I was happy with. It wouldn’t stop me staying again as we all enjoyed ourselves. But I would ask not to have room 6 😀.
