For un "unmanned hotel" I seen the owner more often that most manned hotels. Andrew was lovely, constantly helpful and always trying to assist. The hotel was clean, well maintained and comfotable enough. The location is PERFECT for a night out or in my case doing work on the mainstreet with everything within walking distance. There is parking for a car and plenty of restaurants nearby.

There is no getting around the fact that the hotel is pretty basic. The facilities are old BUT they are very well maintained and very clear. The hotel owner is clearly actively doing maintinance to maintain good standards.

No hesitation in thoroughly recommending this guest house. It has excellent staff who all do their jobs in a totally profesional manner, they are a source of lots of useful information about the weather, attractions, buses and even steer you clear of dangereous roads for walkers (traffic on Orkney can be ruthless!) The rooms may intially seem a little dated, but they are well equiped and a great place to get dry. There's an outstanding cooked breakfast which you pre order I found this prevented delays and hearing "we've got your order muddled" which I ecountered in another hotel whilst I was in Scotland. There's also a good range of cereals and fruit -a cornucopia has nothing on this place,

Room and bathroom were clean. .They were also serviced during my stay and my wet towels were replaced. Bed was comfortable. One day it was very rainy and I got soaked, but I could dry my pants on the radiator which I could turn on. Tasty, cooked to order breakfast was included in room rate and there was also good selection of continental breakfast available. Ferry for my departure was a quarter to midnight, but thanks to very nice and friendly hosts I didn;t have to carry my luggage with me after check out. They let me leave it in the hotel even though hotel was closed on that day.

A unprepossessing property, nevertheless the West End Guest house has a warm heart. It's a bit shabby, but it's clean, and once the room got heated up, it was warm. Great shower. It would have been nice to be on the second floor, with a better view. Still, it was quiet at night. It's also only a block or two from town. Really nice that it has parking. The breakfast and breakfast staff were lovely. It's a little odd to get to the place and find your room key in a lockbox - there is no staff on hand - but it worked fine. This is not a luxury accommodation but it was adequate, comfortable, and served our needs well.

Handy location, clean and tidy rooms, staircases and general areas, very good breakfast and friendly staff. Excellent email exchanges - timely and giving all necessary information to compensate for the fact that staff are generally only present at breakfast time.

I stayed in Room 6 which is the smallest single bedroom. My initial reaction was negative - wardrobe space was very limited (four items), the washbasin was in the bedroom (since the bathroom only had room for toilet and shower) and it was a bit gloomy. However, I slept well and I got used to the layout such that when I left after 3 nights I felt positive about my stay. The most annoying issue was the bathroom fan that ran for half an hour after putting the light off - and it was very noisy! I also suggest a decent mug would be better than the little cup and saucer provided.

Location is good. The room and general area were very clean and newly decorated. There was everything in the room that would normally be expected.

It was unfortunate that I was needing to leave very early for my return ferry. I would not expect a cooked breakfast before 8pm off-season but would have liked the opportunity to have access to cereal in my room or similar small carryout breakfast. An alternative tariff for bed only might be considered?

This Guest House is lovely. A quirky building, with a fantastic location. 5mins walk from the bus station, 3 mins walk to the shops, and surrounded by cafes and restaurants all easy walking distance. The check in / check out process was seem-less, efficient and quick. The room has everything you need, with the option to request towels, loo roll etc at breakfast. The entire place is spotlessly clean and the breakfast was very tasty. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely hotel. Neat and tidy. Staff very friendly and kind. Had a lovely single room that was well equipped with TV, hairdryer, tea facilities and I chose one with an ensuite. I was staying for a week for work and everything was nicely looked after and e.g. fresh towels etc. Handy code based check in so it doesn't matter if your plane is late or you have an unusual check in time. Breakfast excellent and plenty of choice.

Nothing. All was good.

The location of the hotel was perfect. We were close to the main street and could walk easily to St. Magnus Church, the Bishop's Castle and many nice restaurants. The WEGH also served a hearty, delicious breakfast. Our room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable and the staff were so friendly. They even have a car park. And they let us leave our bags there after check-out so we could enjoy Kirkwall more before our departure.

The little single room is perfect for a short stay in which I was mostly out and about. This was my second time staying here and it won't be my last. The location is perfect, the staff are lovely, and it's great value. Also, the car park is a bonus because I hire a car when I come to Orkney. I hope to see you next year!

For the price and the busy time of year I can't fault it. It's a small economical room in a perfect spot. what's not to like?
