Our bedroom was a good size on the first floor, very comfortable. The restaurant service and food were very good. We had dinner there each night and the breakfasts were freshly cooked to order

Water pressure on the shower was rather low. The window in our room didn't really have any outlook which was a function of the original age of the property - that is not to say that the property was tired, in fact it had been recently been rebuilt after a serious fire and all the internal finishes were very smart.

The grounds were lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent.

The pit holes in the drive getting to and from hotel. I felt the configuration of the beds in the family room were the wrong way round as the room with the 2 single beds had the en suite and the tea/coffee making facility. Saying all that, the rooms were very comfortable and clean with a modern bathroom and we would definitely stay here again.

The Hotel was ideally suited for me as a solo traveller, made to feel very welcome by Reception staff, and the owner who immediately engaged in conversation when I entered the bar on the evening for my meal. Situation was ideal as I was meeting up with friends at nearby Looe.

There was nothing i didnt like about my stay, and would gladly return and recommend to friends and family.

Set in fantastic grounds, patrolled by Peacocks and Guinea fowl, as well as the local birds. Very good evening meal and breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A very good sympathetic renovation of what must have been a fantastic old building.

Mattress was a bit too firm for us and the water pressure was a bit low in the shower but overall very good.

Booked this hotel for a week in September 2021 for our Anniversary and it was absolutely wonderful. We headed to the reception and were greeted by a very polite and welcoming lady called Leela. We had booked a Superior Double and were very pleased when we entered the room. The bed was enormous and the room was spotlessly clean. The room came with a dressing table, wall-hung TV and a built-in closet. For just the two of us, it was a perfect size. The bathroom had a shower bath and was quite large for the size of the room. Everything was very clean and overall we were very impressed with the room. We had an excellent nights sleep, the bed is very comfortable and since the hotel is so rurally location the nights are nigh on silent. That evening we had dinner in the rather dining room. I have to say I was blown away. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very generous. Absolute compliments to the chef. The waitress, Michelle who served us was very polite and extremely attentive. We found the bar to be very well equipped with a great selection of local Cornish Gin's, much to my delight. During our stay, we also met Michael, the Owner. He was very welcoming and really made us feel like part of the family. He gave us some great tips on places to visit as well as things to do. The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of a beautiful forest, Looe is only 15 minutes drive and Polperro is only 20. The A38 is only a 3-minute drive away meaning travelling to other areas of Cornwall is fast and easy. It took us only 55 minutes to get to Newquay. Overall we were very impressed with the Hotel, the room is lovely, the surrounding is stunning, the staff are welcoming and attentive (notably: Leela, Michelle, Ed and Steve) and the food is beautiful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to all. They made our anniversary hotel perfect and will defiantly be staying again in future.

The breakfast options are very good and the full English is a good size for the price. Though I would say that perhaps the other cooked options such as bacon butty or egg on toast should be cheaper than a full English. However, all the food was excellent and the bacon was delicious.

Lovely location, beautiful views, quiet and peaceful. Plenty of free parking, lots of choice for breakfast and a good varied dinner menu. Friendly, happy and helpful staff.

Not having a hair drier or shower cap in the room. The lighting sensors in the bathroom areas aren’t a good idea as if you use the bathroom in the night it wakes your partner plus takes a while to turn off meaning neither of you can sleep.

The breakfast was great, especially the vegetarian option. We loved our room, very comfortable and enjoyed the peacocks in the lovely gardens.

I wish the transport links were near by and close to the football stadium, however it as a peaceful location so cannot have it both ways!

The restaurant menu was fabulous and we were spoilt for choice and could have ordered lots of the options. The grounds are amazing and worth an explore (noting it's woodland, and ravine, as well as well as less challenging areas). Peacocks, and pheasants and horses in the grounds too.

The bathroom was not brilliantly laid out in our room but perfectly functional and clean. It was a squeeze getting past the end of the bed as well.

The staff are very friendly and very helpful, nice gardens to walk or have a quiet drink with the peacock's walking around. Food was good and home made.

Weak moble phone reception area, but this gives you time to relax from work.

The hotel was gorgeous, the staff exceeded all expectations and nothing was too much trouble. The grounds were lovely and to wake up and watch horses grazing on the grass outside our balcony was really special. There are several peacocks strutting around which was also great to sit outside and watch - but make sure your windows are closed when you go out - they do fly remember!! The food was cooked to your taste and was delicious - stuffed at dinner - I guess the desserts were as good as they looked - didn't manage to get that far - unfortunately. Lots of varieties at breakfast so you could eat as little or as much as you requires. Our breakfast lasted until dinner.

It wasn't that we didn't like it it just happened that we had the beautiful suite with the automatic lights which came on at random say 1.00 a.m. We kept the bathroom door closed and the drapes across the bath so it wasn't a problem but all the staff are aware of this little quirk and are trying to get it fixed. I believe that considering the hotel is hundreds of years old it's a cranky old ancestor who hated baths coming back to torment us cleanies!!
