October 2024

I stayed at this Inn on a Sunday and Monday in October 2024. I was on a business trip (Horse insurance). My accommodation was one of two suites at the Inn. My suite was large and very comfortable (decent shower, comfy bed, easily regulated heating, clean, coffee machine included). My full english breakfast was superb. I wish I could make poached eggs like that! I also had a great dinner on the 2 nights of my stay (sirloin of beef and lamb leg in a red wine jus were my absolute favourites). I could not, nor would want to, fault anything including the smashing service. The patron, chef and servers are clearly invested in this place. I was on business but it would be an excellent stop for a retreat or for easy access to horsey pursuits. Fabulous surroundings.

Everything was amazing. Food was very good. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Friends from Newbury met us at the Ibex for dinner and will also return. Ibex is 15 km from Newbury Centre. Countryside is very beautiful, but transport is essential. Loved every minute. Restaurant and pub on the premises makes the Ibex a superb place to stay.

Room was quite hot. There was a fan, but there is no aircon and the window doesn’t open wide. Hot water in the shower took a while to come through. Both of these were not a problem.

Gavin and the team were super accommodating. Myself and 2 friends travelled 3 hours down for a wedding, and they allowed us to drop our bags off and stayed later for us to check into the room. It made a huge difference to our stay and put us at ease. The one bedroom house was spacious and perfect for what we needed. The Ibex Inn pub was lovely and welcoming, a friendly doggy called Wilson and great breakfast! Thank you for everything!

Only a small issue, and nothing an open window can't fix, but the downstairs of the one-bedroom house smelt slightly. Once we'd opened the windows it had gotten better.

The food at the Ibex was excellent. We had an evening meal as well as breakfast and both were well cooked with fresh ingredients and were delicious. Our bedroom suite was large and luxurious with a very comfortable king size bed.

On arrival two people were sitting at the bar having a drink, one of whom was a young lady who seemed to be a disgruntled member of staff who was really sounding off which was rather off-putting. Another, very pleasant, young lady came from out the back to check us in and take us up to our room. The young man who served us both in the evening and at breakfast the next morning was very pleasant, attentive and helpful. Another couple with us in the dining room that evening had obviously encountered the disgruntled lady when they arrived (after us) and complained about her swearing to the Landlord.

This is a charming old pub with rooms in a delightful, peaceful village. The room was very spacious and well-equipped. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Our evening meal in the pub and the breakfast were both superb - excellent, home-cooked food. An added bonus was that the room was dog friendly and the pleasant local people in the bar were very helpful in suggesting local walks. We only stayed one night but would certainly stay again if in the area.

When we arrived, the shower was hot (after a while!) and very welcome. Showers on the following morning were lukewarm - something to be attended to as the accommodation was otherwise faultless.

We had a wonderful stay. We rented the small cottage opposite the pub. It was comfortable, well-equipped, and full of character. Breakfast each morning was exceptional - one of the best cooked breakfasts we've ever had. The pub is dog-friendly, and has a resident dog, which we all loved, especially our children. The staff were friendly and helpful. We explored the village, and also several neighbouring villages, all of which were delightful. We will definitely return.

There is almost nothing to fault. The cottage would benefit from hooks in the front hall (we had nowhere to hang our coats), and it could do with more than two coffee mugs in the kitchen. But these were very minor points, and did not detract from an excellent stay.

Modern, new, spacious, lovely electric log fire, great lighting throughout, big TV, downstairs toilet handy, little garden for dog to go out handy, plenty of tea, coffee, milk. Opposite lovely character pub which did amazingly good breakfast. Big bedroom upstairs with lovely bathroom.

Sofa bed for one, was bloody uncomfortable , needs replacing. Upstairs windows under eaves had no blinds , so dog was a pain as soon as it was light, wanted to play at 4am. Apart from that, superb.

The manager of the pub Nathan is exceptional and all his staff are friendly and the food excellent. The bed was extremely comfy but with no curtains upstairs my dog woke us very early! As a lone traveler with an anxious dog having staff (and locals) who are genuinely "dog friendly" and understanding of why an animal may be barking etc was worth its weight in gold for me. Everyone was extremely generous and made us both feel welcome straight away. Thank you so much to all of them

The accommodation wasn't as clean as I had expected. The upstairs toilet was dirty, the air vent in the bathroom thick with dust and cobwebs (it's at eye level so you can see it every time you go in), there were no towels in the kitchen or downstairs loo, Nathan quickly rectified when I asked for a tea towel. Once the nice fruity cleaning aroma subsided the downstairs smelt of stale smoke. The upstairs TV did not work. I was a bit confused over the price as I had made it clear I was bringing a dog when I made the booking, so I thought the price had included a pet, but when I got to the Ibex there was an additional charge of £20 so was more expensive than I had thought and in comparison to other accommodations I was looking at.

The bed upstairs was very good and comfy. The shower worked after we removed some hair otherwise you could swim away in the shower. Good WiFi connection. Great kitchen. Good for a stay for 2 persons probably. Car parking just near the house.

Checkout by 11am would be more convenient and relaxing. Selfservice breakfast would be easier for all:). No towel in the bathroom downstairs for the hands after washing them. The sofa bed was a bit hard to sleep on. 20 pounds extra cost for 1 middle size dog seems to be a bit over normal price.

The Ibex Inn is a traditional olde worlde pub with a history to match. Off the beaten track, it is a hidden gem with a landlord that tricks all the boxes of what a good host should be. Friendly, chatty, has employed staff who make you feel like you are a local..a cook that knows his onions and accommodation that lacks for nothing. We had the stable house which was exceptional. A two floor apartment superbly renovated and could enjoy a lengthy stay there in complete comfort. Our travelling companions stayed above the pub and were equally delighted with their rooms. Our evening meal was perfect and the breakfast plentiful and beautifully cooked. A short ride to Highclere Castle ( Downton Abbey ) so would totally recommend the Ibex Inn for anyone and everyone. A big thanks to all of you from the travelling Danes

I saw cookie preparing sunday dinner and was devestated that we couldnt stay. The yorkshire pudding was staring at me and begging to be eaten and I swear I had tears in my eyes.
