A community-run pub which commands the loyalty of the locals to a remarkable degree; conversations are interesting and entertaining. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. Its refurbishment was notably successful. The evening menu is varied, and all we tried was excellently prepared and presented. The accommodation is attractive, carefully designed and convenient and immaculate. There is no cooked breakfast, but all the materials one could wish for a self-service continental one.The kind of place one invents excuses to revisit

Wouldn't change a thing

Room was reasonable size and bathroom had a bath which is a plus. Decent towels and some toiletries provided. The continental breakfast left in room was a croissant, yoghurts, orange juice, two types of cereal, jam and butter, oranges and a jug of milk so could make proper tea! Biscoff biscuits also provided. Pub was very welcoming both from staff and customers. Local beers on which were well kept. We didn't eat as not hungry but saw the food which looked and smelt delicious with generous portions. We were there as a night between a trip to Newbury races and before a stable visit in Lambourn and it was ideally placed for both. Price was very good value.

well appointed room (it even had a fridge! a welcome surprise) and very clean. Very good size bath towels and good supply of soaps. Breakfast DIY was good (croissants with butter and jams, cereals, biscuits). Staff nice and helpful. Meal in the pub was really good.

Only downside was a noise coming from some sort of machine (air conditioning perhaps) from inside the property which was on all night so made it difficult to sleep. PS: May apply only for the room we stayed in called THE NEST.

To be honest we were looking for a no frills cheap room for an overnight stay. But what we found was a hidden gem of a pub located on the main road. Lovely little pub, great staff, and a huge family room. While all the other accommodations in the area were ridiculously expensive, this little gem was more than resonable

The only slight niggle was the lack of a cooked breakfast, but this is very minor. But the place had kindly left a fridge full of goodies for us including a continental breakfast Fantastic !

For the foreigner who wants a small town tavern experience, this is a great place. (If you are a Travel Lodge type, my apologies). The room was very clean and the beds were great. We were very pleased with the in-room breakfast. The refrigerator was full of food - yogurt, rolls, jam, orange, cereal, and milk. My only regret is that our time was too short there. We got in and immediately headed to a play at the Watermill Theatre and then left in the next morning. I really would have loved to stay for dinner and a pint. When we got back at 11pm there were still people in the pub drinking. They all looked towards us as we came in with smiles and a look that said, "please come in a have one with us." A missed opportunity. We know that the English only have instant coffee in taverns like this, so we brought our own coffee and AeroPress, so no problems there.

We wish we had more time to spend with the friendly staff and other guests.

The building itself was so quaint. There were 3 rooms above the pub. Our room was so cute. Very clean and comfortable. We had dinner downstairs at the pub and the food was excellent. The waiter was very friendly.

Only thing was that there were 4 adults and the sofa bed was really not much more than a single bed size so my husbands and my sleep was not very good. There was noise from the road but we were warned about that and it stopped early so not a problem. Maybe a coffee pot for real coffee and not instant would have been nice. But these are all minor. We LOVED staying there and would stay again. Close to Stonehenge and to Highclere Castle.

Really friendly from the moment we walked in, even the locals who were just having a drink made us feel very welcome. The room was immaculate and very comfortable, basic breakfast items provided with homemade croissants. Has everything you need if you wanted to have dinner there, but Hungerford is just a couple of minutes away, and only half a mile from the M4 .

Couldn't find a single fault.

Lovely products left for our breakfast which was perfect and worked really well. Friendly staff. Easy access and nice bathroom.

Public stairwell to room smelt of dogs which I understand is tricky as pets are welcome and that is a bonus and it was a dreich day whilst we were there in middle of winter. Sofabed dipped in middle a little but pillows down the middle worked a treat.

Liked the majority of aspects of the stay. Complimentary breakfast was varied. Liked having a fridge in room. Was a good location as very close to m4. We stayed here as went to Reading Festival for a day and it suited perfectly for the price. Of I was going to festival for a day I'd happily choose yo stay here instead of the super inflated prices if Reading hotels.

Main double bed (sofa bed) wasn't that comfortable. On second day and after re stock of food. Wasnt restocked with knifes or coffee. Wasnt a major issue, but would have been a nause if the 2 teenagers wanted coffee and having no knife made it difficult to spread butter and jam.

If you are looking for a unique experience - stay above a pub! :) We had tried the experience on a trip to another country and it was a sleepless night listening to the pub goers until well into the morning hours. The Tally Ho is different, it's a local pub which closes at 11P - great story (read the history about how they saved it from development) and great atmosphere. Friendly, fun locals to chat and share a pint with.
