The location was lovely. The staff were brilliant. The room was spacious with a lovely patio area.

We stayed in the Heron room and at the price we paid we expected a plug for the sink. We told staff there was no sink plug but one didn't appear. My husband has a balance problem so when away he prefers to have a strip wash and a wet shave rather than a shower. A strip wash and wet shave are almost impossible when the plug is missing as the water just runs out. We didn't expect our cooked breakfast to arrive immediately but it did seem to be a very long time coming.

A short walk from Kintbury rail station, and next to the Kennet and Avon canal. A quiet location, with occasional background noises from aquatic birds calling, and (infrequently) a passing train. Did not hear any noise from the bar downstairs. The character rooms are named after birds, and are decorated in a slightly quirky style. (I prefer that to the blandness of a room in a major hotel chain.) The bedside tables are leather topped, and the mirror had duck (?) feet. The bedding was clean and comfortable. The ensuite was clean, with good sized towels, and all in good working order. Very good breakfast, with excellent service, served in a room overlooking the garden, in which two guinea fowl were to be seen. The garden is edged on two sides by the Kennet and Avon canal. Did not try the evening meal nor the bar, since we went to visit friends, nearby.

The heating was hotter than ideal. The ensuite might benefit from an update before too long. The weather was rainy, otherwise we might have had a short walk alongside the canal.

I have been a regular but infrequent visitor to the Dundas over the last few years. Since my last visit there has been a change of management team, and whilst obviously still settling in, it seems that this change will be for the better. The food in the restaurant was good with some interesting menu options and the breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented.

Although my room (Teal) was clean and comfortable, there was quite a strong musty smell in the room. This was much stronger in the bathroom but also pervaded the room despite leaving the patio doors open to improve ventilation. Whilst it is only an irritant the problem needs attention. Had I stayed more than one night I would have asked to change rooms. I mentioned it to the team on checking out.

I had the pleasure of staying at the The Dundas Arms with my mum as a birthday treat for her, she has always wanted to visit Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) which is a 20min drive away. The Dundas is located on the banks of the Kinnet Canal which is an absolutely stunning location, it has a wonderful large garden canal side, the restaurant has three different areas, all decorated with a plush feel. The pub is lovely, our twin room was clean, large & well decorated. Not only is the Dundas in a fabulous location, it's food is equally as fantastic, fresh local ingredients, quite possibly one of the nicest fish and chips I've had in a long time, breakfast was also excellent, the bar has a great selection of beer, ales and larger all on tap. The staff were friendly and accomadating. I will say that a railway line runs alongside the canal with a quaint level crossing very close to The Dundas with slow running trains around every 30mins, however despite this it did not affect our stay/sleep in anyway (our window was open the entire night) I am not sure if the trains run all night as I had a really good uninterrupted night's sleep. Due to a knee injury I was unable to explore the canal as much as I would of liked but will certainly be back to this beautiful canal/lock, will we stay at The Dundas again... absolutely 100%

Location. Lovely riverside patio room. Best accommodation mattress ever! Jolly staff (bar one). Chef a keeper. Both evening meals very good. Lovely canal walk right by pub.

Worst ‘reception’ on arrival I have had in all my travels. Lady patently irritated by my arrival, monosyllabic with zero greeting and minimal eye contact. No information re breakfast timings, other pertinent info. Marched off in room direction not waiting to see if I was keeping up. At top of a few steps, pointed left and “your room”. I was frankly shocked and hardly anticipating my stay with enthusiasm. Fortunately only saw the woman to-ing and fro-ing in the evening and was not around for the Tuesday/Wednesday. Other staff friendly, chatty and helpful, but apart from young man ‘running’ restaurant on Monday evening (very efficient), were a bit short on efficient use of time. However their good humour always present.

Lovely location close to local walks with the canal, river, woods and fields. Very nice breakfast & restaurant food was very tasty & great quality produce Great selection of beers was a bonus. Lovely garden pods Staff were all super friendly and helpful Room was comfortable & clean. Tv reception in room was varied but not an issue after long walks and few drinks zzzzz.

Parking was a little confusing at first as some of the car park is other side of the canal and looks like pay & display for train station, but no real issue. Some visitors might be put off by the train station close by with a bit of noise.

Large and comfortable room with private outside space overlooking the river.. Parking directly outside. Lovely food for both dinner and breakfast. A very friendly manager and staff. Great location adjacent to the pretty canal.

Would have preferred to have access from within the building rather than an external entrance although it was not a problem as the weather was dry and mild - only one room has this arrangement.

What a gem! The Dundas Arms is easy to find, just off the A4. Ideally situated in the lovely little village, with a river, canal and train line running through. The train line goes to Paddington Station, so perfect for a day out without the car. There are plenty of lovely walks around the pub, along the canal or through the village. Amenities in the village is a small convenience store, bakery and hairdressers. There is also another pub, which appears to specialise in Thai food. The main A4 is convenient for both Hungerford and Newbury. Highclere Castle is only 25 minutes away and is well worth a visit. The pub itself is charming, full of character and has a lovely atmosphere. It caters for both locals, visitors, walkers and boating enthusiasts, plus very doggy friendly. The pub is very clean and well looked after. The rooms are spacious, quiet and well decorated, we had a lovely terrace outside, unfortunately the weather had other ideas. The room had the usual extras, plus cotton buds, cotton pads, sewing kit, feminine essentials and ear plugs. Even the drinks tray had an ice bucket and cafetière. Milk was fresh in a little jug, which you obtained from the bar, no UHT, which was lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They were short staffed the first day we were there and it was very busy. However, the new Manager was brilliant and could definitely multi task, until more staff arrived. The food was excellent and possibly the best I have tasted in a pub before. It was all freshly cooked, local ingredients and cooked to perfection. I would definitely recommend The Dundas Arms and will be returning. Thank you to all the Management and Staff for making our visit so memorable.

We didn’t want to leave!

The food was the best part of the trip for all of us . Lovely pub accommodation in a nice location. We stayed here as planning in visiting Highclare Castle. The room was very spacious and the river patio made it nicer. The food was excellent. My partner is gluten free and it was refreshing to see so many options available for him . There are lots of options for breakfast ( which was great too) I thought it was a bonus - for a pub this place excels when it comes to food .

The room wasn’t cleaned properly . We found some hair and dirt on the toilet paper. You could see clearly that it wasn’t done right. The remote control didn’t work well either as you had to come out of bed and come close to the tv to change channels . We gave up in the end .The bar area looks a bit depressing and nothing as the photo online but once you get over that, the place is ok overall .

We loved that the whole place - pub and rooms - are dog friendly. The decor and furnishing were very comfortable. The setting between the river and canal was delightful! The garden looks gorgeous and we are thinking about returning for an evening out there in the summer. The food at dinner and breakfast was lovely!

A dog friendly canal-side room with a patio was perfect in theory for us with our dog but the four rooms / patios were not entirely secure - the dog could get between the four and wonder into other rooms if left to their own devices. I’m sorry to say we also had some ants in the room. These things happen so it wasn’t a dealbreaker, but there needs to be a bit more attention paid to preventing this
