The reception staff are well-informed, friendly and helpful. I love the lounges and the dining room is pleasant, too, with a exceptionally good dinner menu....and excellent old-fashioned service by willing and smiling staff. This is becoming rare in England, alas!

The new windows in the bedrooms are impossible. Without a booklet or information sheet, it is impossible for any guest either to open or close them. (I am talking at the moment about Room 60). Why on earth not fit just simple sash windows? I also didn't like the way that the 'entertainment'....be it bingo or a singer....is so loudly electrically amplified. There is absolutely no need for this. It makes conversation in the adjoining lounge impossible....and can even sometimes be heard in the bedrooms. Your singers and musicians are good.....and would be perfectly audible WITHOUT amplification!

We loved everything. The food was excellent, the pool was fantastic and the hotel was very clean and Earl in the bar was lovely. The staff were very friendly and the entertainment was an added bonus. The location of the hotel was perfect as we're the sunbeds.

My husband is gluten free and a lack of knowledge caused a few problems by leaving out items and leaving a gap on his plate without a sustitution. The length of time to get his bread roll with his evening meal was ridiculous. The service could have been better but when the food came, it was excellent and really well presented.

Hotel was lovely. grounds were great and position right on the seafront with parking was just we were looking for. Pool and spa facilities great as well as gym. Loved the decor of the hotel. Big roomy high ceiling rooms for eating or having a drink and listening to live music. A feeling of peace and calm and relaxation.

it was a shame only 10 people could use the fitness/pool at any one time. we only wanted to use the gym but were only able to book it one out of three evenings. The one evening we did use it, everyone else was in the pool so we had the gym to ourselves. Perhaps a booking system which allowed up to 10 in the pool and 5 in the gym might be better?

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay.Only had a short walk to beach and fun fair straight across from hotel which shut down at 9pm for you early birds I'd suggest a room at the rear.We ate at the Palace Hotel on first evening which wasn't to our liking but it seemed busy throughout the week. This was our first holiday in Devon and the Palace pulled us to paighton which is great with lots to keep the whole family busy definitely would reccomend this Hotel and paighton.

Room was excellent. (55) Fantastic views Shower worked fine and very clean bathroom. Staff everywhere (reception, maintenance man- Paul(?) were all brilliant, Paul in the restaurant super! So was Katie and Kebbi. Location excellent. We visited Torquay and Berry Head too. Amazing. Loved the walk in Berry Head especially and both under 20 minutes away by car. Spa facilities- steam room worked well. Excellent massage by the lady whose name began with B (sorry). A shame we were only able to have this booked on our leaving day. We had a lovely 14th wedding anniversary visit including paying for the His and Her indulgence package with massage, afternoon tea, bubbly and chocolates. We were so blessed to have wicked weather for our entire stay too! Sunday-Wednesday! Plus the funfair was there. Bonus!

Spa facilities - too close to front door and not enough loungers at the pool. Changing rooms let the hotel down, untidy, not comfy and broken lockers visible. Afternoon tea booked was nice however the scones were tiny and a bit on the hard side. Also it would have been perfect if the sandwiches had more variety (husband didn’t eat dairy or pork).

Lovely sea view, Choice on the menu was good. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Good location.

Other people who were staying were told to keep the same table in the restaurant, whenever we turned up we were not on the list or there was not a table for us and considering we had booked breakfast and evening meal as a package it was very poor indeed. We had to wait while tables were cleaned off/or for people to leave. When questioned about it we were told we were not on the list, so we queued to go in and people were just going in and sitting down at allocated tables. A sorry state of affairs. Happened every meal time. Room needed a good clean, although dusted, black grime around bathroom facilities. Tried to book in for a swim, only to be told pool was fully booked except for a 4 ish slot, when red arrows would be flying over Torbay, and that was the only reason we booked there.

Lovely welcoming staff always polite and attentive to your needs. Very clean spacious room , ideal location for the beach and a few minutes walk into the centre . Nightly entertainment available . The food is very good . Gym , pool with jacuzzi , steam room and sauna available were really relaxing . We look forward to returning .

It is an old building and some ceiling tiles are showing signs of water damage . The light in the steam room requires changing as it is not working and a little dark in there . The bar is understaffed in the evening . Our room was near the kitchen and you may catch the odd chitter chatter of staff , also washing machines are noisy in the the late evening if you need an early night . All these are constructive and not criticism as we were happy overall with our stay .

Lovely atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Large, spacious room which was very comfy. Situated right on the seafront so an ideal location and my room was very quiet. An easy walk from the railway station.

Although my treatments at the spa were excellent I found having to walk through the gym full of people doing workouts to get to and from it rather disconcerting. Also, on arriving at the spa the reception was unmanned with no written instruction about what you should do/where to go, or not, so all rather confusing.

The staff are welcoming and very friendly, great sea front location and only a short walk into town. We did dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was great. There are also loads of places to eat locally if you didn’t fancy eating at the hotel. Our bed was enormous and comfortable. During the summer holidays there is a fair just outside on the green before the sea, noise stops by 11 though.

There wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. They provide evening entertainment, singers during our stay, I guess they could mix this up a bit.
