We booked last minute on the day as a spontaneous trip to the Lakes, to climb Helvellyn the next day, and thankfully we got the last available room. We told the lady who checked us in (I sadly didn’t get her name) that we were leaving very early in the morning to catch the sunrise, so would miss breakfast. She immediately went to talk to the chef and arranged for some plates of food and bottles of orange juice to be made up for us and left in a fridge for us to grab as we left! We were so grateful for such kind and hospitable service, and the food was a great help before the hike. There was plenty of parking available, and you can book to eat in the restaurant which serves tasty pub classics. The room itself was very comfortable, cosy and perfect for what we needed. We definitely recommend staying at the Shepherds Inn!

Only slight downsides were the green emergency exit light in our room, as it was incredibly bright and located directly above the bed, and the curtains over the window as they didn’t block out much light at all, and a bright outdoor light was located directly outside our window. An eye mask solved both of these issues however and I slept soundly!

Setting. Excellent straightforward all round pub, with good food, a menu you would happily choose any dish from, knowing it would be well made/ good example. Really good wine list encouraging exploration with undemanding prices. A pub where locals , tourers, young, old all seem comfortable with. Good beer; lovely open village green. My second stay over quite a long gap. Still impressed. Rested. Happy

I overheard fellow guests saying they were kept awake by a flower pot automatic waterer dripping, but she appeared to love everything else.

The staff were very welcoming and even though I arrived after the kitchen in the pub had stopped taking orders, they had arranged for my supper to be kept warm in the oven. I was given a free upgrade from a single to a double room. The bedroom had a lovely view over the village green, the bed was comfy and the shower excellent. The pub is in a beautiful, quiet location and I had a very peaceful night.

Lovely little spot looking out on a village green. The rooms were nice and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. We were doing the Macmillan Mighty Hike the next day and they arranged an early breakfast for us and gave us free reign to fill our water bottles at the sink in the bar etc. We had dinner and breakfast there and both were very good. They were also very accommodating of vegan and gluten-free dietary requirements.

Our room was right above the bar so we heard a lot of noise while we were trying to go to sleep. I appreciate there is little that can be done about that given the layout, but after closing (around 11pm I think) a number of customers hung around outside continuing to make noise until about midnight. I felt that the staff should have asked these customers to move on for the comfort of their overnight guests.

The breakfast was plentiful, beautifully presented. The waitress service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. Everything was very clean and our room was comfortable and well decorated. We had a lovely view from the window and the setting was picturesque. Lots of free parking.

Maybe some more teabags in the room. Also some information about the area would be welcome. It would be helpful to have the passcodes for internet access in the room too. And perhaps times for evening meals and breakfast.

The Shepherds Inn is a quiet location about 4 miles from Penrith, ideal for travellers. There is a varied choice on the menu through the day and the food is delicious and well prepared. Comfortable room and the service was second to none

I can't think of anything that would make it better. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it made a very comfortable break in our journey. We would recommend staying here either as a base for a holiday or as a stopover in a long journey.

Location was superb for the purpose of our visit to the area. Our twin room was clean, comfortable with excellent facilities. Wifi speed as absolutely fine for our needs. Restaurant food was great - we had the Wagu Burger one night and Lasagne the following night - portion sizes are huge (and I've just come back from the USA which in itself says it all). The owners and staff just couldn't do enough for you and were so hospitable. We would definately stay again and have no hesitation in recommending the Shepherds Inn for either a hot meal, accommodation or both.

Nothing - great stay. Liked everything.

The location was great as only a 6 min walk to the train station. The double room was very clean and overlooked the village green, bed and pillows were very comfortable, breakfast was very good with cereals, toast, full English, orange juice and tea/coffee. We also ate there in the evenings, and had the famous Wathby Whale fish and chips, it was huge! Thank you to Stephen, Gloria and all the staff for making our stay enjoyable.

Very helpful and pleasant staff team. I really liked the way they looked after their B and B guests whilst running a busy bar and restaurant for non-residents. Our evening meal - fish and chips - was fantastic, as was our plentiful and tasty breakfast. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. The village of Langwathby is lovely and the views and countryside surrounding it were great. All in all, a very enjoyable 24 hours.

The location was lovely with friendly locals in the bar and the breakfast was very good.

The bedroom lacked storage space and the nest of tables should have been replaced with chest of drawers. We thought breakfast, 8.00-8.30am was rather early fir a holiday location. However, when we mentioned it the owner booked us in for 9.00 on the second day,
