Staff were very helpful, Hotel was very clean and well kept. The outside of the hotel, mainly the walls were a bit tired. Breakfast was a buffet and had a wide choice of food. Dinner was included in my rate and was also very good.
My room, 104, had very sqweaky hinges and made a load noise when leaving the room, which would have disturbed other guests, as I had to leave early both mornings. It wasn't obivous how to get someone at reception, if there was no one there.

Excellent location on the southwestern coast of Scotland overlooking the small fishing village of Portpatrick. Friendly staff, nice room with great views. We had a nice dinner at the hotel. The young staff serving were a bit green but were doing their best.
The Sticky Toffee Pudding was too dry. Low marks for that one.

very nice rooms, nice food and friendly helpful staff, good amount of parking and amazing location.
the entrance to the car park has these large pillars, which are too narrow and will prevent types of vehicles from using the car park, needs widening.

Location was great, fantastic views from very comfortable turret room. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and places to visit. I'd like to thank three staff in particular. Niamh, Dylan and Olivia. Hotel itself is lovely. Beware of 4 poster bed if you have short legs. I had a hilarious time getting in and out. 😆
Heated towel rail didn't work and wasn't attended to while I was there. Water took 9 minutes to run hot, but maybe not uncommon in an old building of that size. Not a complaint, just for info. I've had better food, but for only three nights it was ok. The penne arrabiata was rather good though, as was the G&T on the terrace.

Our room, the view from our room, the space in our room, lovely tea/coffee, even a tassimo coffee machine. There was a relaxed, charm everywhere, staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome, and to do whatever they could to make our stay perfect. The food was really lovely, decent portions, piping hot, breakfast was a hot/cold buffet, again, plenty choice, and beautifully cooked. The hotel is over a hundred years old, it has so much character, we loved it, the decor is complimentary, and makes everywhere light, and airy, making the most of the wonderful views.
If you wanted to ‘pick fault’, there would be some things that are being dealt with, but there was nothing which spoiled our stay. I think with more staff waiting time for evening meals could be improved, we were in no hurry, but for some it could be an issue. The staff were all young, extremely hard working, and adaptable to whatever job needed doing, always with a smile, incredible.

This hotel is in THE location in Portpatrick. It is worth paying for a seaview room as you look out over the pretty harbour. The hotel has faded grandeur but now lacks a bit of style and atmosphere. Like many large old hotels, it must be a battle to keep up the maintenance but everywhere was extremely clean and had been freshly painted. We had an extremely good value DB&B rate. Fabulous choice of cooked breakfast. You can walk down the steps into the village and also do a nice walk along the cliff top and see the ferries heading for Ireland. The hotel is extremely dog friendly with a separate dining room for dog owners. Staff were all very helpful.
We had an attic twin room which was quite warm - and we had a dog with us - but we couldn't open any windows, which seemed to be screwed shut. The evening meal was very acceptable for the price we paid, but nothing to write home about. Could have done with some background music in the "dog" restaurant.

We enjoyed our stay. It was my birthday and my family organised a bottle of Prosecco for our room. The bubbly was chilled and waiting with a lovely birthday message. At the meal time the waitress came to the table with a small cake with a candle and sang Happy Birthday. Really lovely and a nice touch. We had a room with a sea view. It had a four poster bed. The room was clean and comfortable. We have a car so the location suited us but the hotel sits up a hill so might not suit everyone.
We would have liked some entertainment to be on at the hotel. We got chatting to another couple in the bar so that was good.

Location is fabulous just a couple of minutes walk down the path into Portpatrick. The hotel is warm inside and the communal areas are all nicely decorated and impressive looking. Our room was spacious and had a door leading directly to the outside which we thought was lovely. Our room also had a view of Portpatrick harbour and was very clean. Staff in the hotel are extremely helpful, polite and very attentive. We stayed at the very beginning of January so definitely in low season so got an amazing deal for a 3 nights stay with breakfast and evening meal. While the food wont win any awards, considering what we paid for our stay was more than adequate and the portions were very generous indeed. Overall, we really did enjoy our stay and would definitely visit again.
There was nothing we didn’t like that wasn’t just down to our personal taste and therefore not the fault of the hotel . As I have said, we would definitely visit again at some point.

We were lucky to visit on a beautiful sunny weekend when Portpatrick was looking stunning, and our lower ground floor room, although quite small, made it so much easier as we were travelling with dogs and had direct access from the room to the gardens.
The temperature in the hotel was uncomfortably hot, but perhaps they had been caught out by the first warm weekend of the year. The wall mounted TV in the room was tiny and reception was poor. Not a big problem for us but it may be for others. Breakfast on Sunday morning was disappointing. We arrived 30 minutes before the end of service, but there was almost no hot food available and we were not offered tea or coffee as all the staff seemed very busy and stressed. The chap in charge was polite and friendly, and promised more hot food was on the way, but after waiting 20 minutes we couldn't wait any longer. Having paid for breakfast this was a bit of a let down. Yes, the dining room was busy, but hotel residents did not receive the best experience on this occasion.
