Location spot on, overnight car park less than a 5 min walk. The hotel also has a night porter on duty which adds to the safety factor when returning late evening/early morning. He also checked to ensure you are a guest. Rooms well equipped and everything you need was available. Very clean throughout. Enough pillows to build a Fort, I think my room had 8! Breakfast was great, a decent spread being a weekday which shows their customer focused intentions. Coffee was refreshing and definitely needed, tasted great too! Overall a great stay, just the minor issue and would of been a 10/10.
Extraction fan in bathroom wasn't working, when it did eventually start spinning, slowly, it made an awful racket. Easy fix however. The interaction between waitress and chef during breakfast was very loud, it may of been exaggerated my end by a slightly sore head, non the less I now know the lady's partner shift patterns and how they breakdown their household bills. Not a major issue, everyone was happy eating, food was topped up well I just think they need to consider the time and place.

Lovely quaint old building with several different levels. Excellent breakfast - eggs made to order - and a free drink from the bar on your first night which was a lovely surprise. Very quiet despite being on a road with a bar opposite. Excellent staff.
The rooms had everything you wanted but were a bit poky. There was no lift and although not a tall building there were a lot of stairs for those who might have problems or heavy luggage. Could do with a 'Wait to be seated' sign at the entrance to the breakfast area as it was a bit chaotic on the first morning as everyone arrived at once.

the hotel staff are excellent; they couldn't have done more for me and their patience and kindness with difficult (other!) people was incredible. The rooms and public areas are full of light and feel surprisingly modem. it was lovely to see the ancient(?) roof beams in my room in this lovely old building.
there was no way to open my room window.

Chee the lady receptionist was so friendly, cheerful, approachable, helpful and informative on where to go and places of interest. I have been to many hotels and she is definitely the best receptionist I have ever met. My husband and I had such a laugh with her as well. Please tell Chee I Bought a beautiful handbag from OSO .. a brilliant recommendation thank you . Matt the bar man was so friendly and funny too. We loved the complimentary drink on the first night as it was a lovely gesture and it made us want to return the next evening . All the staff were friendly. At breakfast even the chef came out to see if we were happy with the breakfast . What I thought was unique was that you were asked how you wanted your eggs done and they were brought to you first and then you went up to the buffet. When we left the Manager was waving at us from the side door which felt very personal .
I hate to say anything negative about the Hotel but we had such difficulty finding their car park Can I suggest you put the coordinates of the car park as opposed to the post code. To be fair though there were road works and diversions going on which made it even more difficult.

Before arrival we were given very good instructions on where we could find public parking and tips to use an online app. This was really helpful. It was my husband's birthday and there were chocolates left in the room for him, which was a nice touch, and the next morning a cake and signing for him at breakfast. I thought the team were all very welcoming. Also we were given a free welcome drink, so that was all very kind and thoughtful. Great value for money. Bathroom looked new, lovely white clean towels and nice bed linen.
The room was rather plain, but fine. We checked the website prior to arrival and hadn't seen that there is a new fish restaurant. It was a shame we didn't know this as we would have eaten at the hotel - so lost business for them. Otherwise all good and no issues at all.

Welcoming staff, perfect room and great breakfast. The room was a great size - it even had a bath and a shower! It was clean, the beds were comfortable and we felt at ease and at home. Every member of staff was excellent. We couldn't have asked for any more. Location was great. A 20 minute walk from the train station, through the city, in a straight line along flat roads. It was incredibly easy to find the hotel. We would stay again.
We were happy with everything the hotel had to offer. There was nothing they we can fault.

everything was fantastic the room was lovely, all the staff were friendly and approachable we loved our stay and would stay here again. The breakfast was amazing!
the parking situation was not brilliant we arrived later in the afternoon and the parking lot was full, it only holds about 8 or so cars and is quite tight, so we had to park on the street and move the car before 8 am(not good when we've been up for 36 hours on international flights and driving from london) but we managed. would still stay again despite this.

The hotel is located very close to the centre of Salisbury and within easy reach of lots of pubs and restaurants. The layout of the rooms is slightly confusing but the member of staff on reception did a great job of pointing us in the right direction. Our room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. It had air conditioning and opening windows which we appreciated. There was a bar in the hotel although we didn't use it. We were able to park on the road outside both evenings but there were two public car parks within easy and it looked as if the hotel might also have some parking.

I would fully recommend a stay at The Merchant House. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel very welcome and valued as guests, also on request we needed a ground floor room and this was no trouble at all and well organised. The rooms and beds were very comfortable and clean and air con very effective on a hot week. A nice touch on the first night that i have not seen in other hotels in recent times, was a complimentary drink in the bar. The bar was cosy and a nice place to start before heading in to the city which was a very short walk. The breakfast is first class with a team and chef to match. Warm and welcoming and happy to help with what ever you would like and i have not received genuine customer care like this for a long time, these qualities stand out and made the stay very enjoyable and will definitely be back soon.

The entire staff was friendly, cheerful and willing to help with any questions. They went out of their way to make affordable taxi reservations for our return trip to London Heathrow ($155 Pounds) which was cheaper than others taxis I had talked to myself. The hotel is close enough to see all the sights of the inner city withing a 3-5 block radius. If you are able to walk, the Salisbury Cathedral is also within your distance of approx a half mile. Go to the Haunch of Venison for a pint or even a meal. It is 700 years old and exudes history at every turn.
The only thing I wish they would have had was the ability to make dinner. But as the head cook told me, the kitchen just wasn't large enough to make such meals. They hope that expanding the kitchen someday will overcome that some day. However, there are enough other restaurants within easy walking distance to make up for that.
