The New Southlands Hotel

Staff very friendly nothing too much trouble.Breakfast was good but could have done with a fried egg instead of scrambled. Hotel just a short walk to cliff lift down to the spa and beach. Room clean but small served our purpose though. Hotel decorated very pleasant and lovely.

Room was a bit small left window open as sometimes did seem stuffy. Glad we were on the 1st floor as the lift was out of order. Breakfast was good but was scrambled egg I prefer a fried egg with cooked breakfast don't know if could have asked for one.could have done with black out curtains as I was awake soon as sun was up. But the curtains were nice ones.

Both rooms were clean and well laid out. We had everything we needed for our stay. Noticed we could have brought our dog if he was still alive. I'd loved to have taken him here so he could come to the beach with us. Also there was Yorkshire Tea to drink. Perfect!

The beds were a tad uncomfortable. That's the only down side to the place

The hotel is very close to the bus stops ,only two stops to town center, there are a few shops nearby and a fantastic Italian restaurant called Tuscany too, which I cannot recommend enough. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond to make our stay amazing , the room was cleaned every day and was very comfortable, the breakfasts are very very good , lots to eat and amazing sausages, you could also have a continental breakfast if you chose to . All in all it was a very good stay and will go back again next year.

We had a little one night stay over as we were going to see a concert and I would definitely stop here again for longer. The place was clean and comfy. The staff were the most friendly staff I have met in a long time; from the cleaners to the reception staff and more. They were all chatty with comments such as 'have a good day', 'safe journey home'. Unfortunately, we didn't have breakfast here so I can not comment on the food.

To me it was super easy for our one night stay and I don't have anything which I never liked. But I did notice that the lifts were unavailable and not working. Which for me wasn't a problem but I know for some it may have been.

Primarily I think the biggest asset for the hotel is the staff they are exceptional especially Finley who made us feel so welcome from the onset, he was definitely high end in his approach to hospitality so thank you for making our stay an enjoyable one, also Philip again brilliant in the restaurant and bar alongside Lucky. The Reception staff also need a mention as nothing was too much trouble for them Sam who was on at nights was always pleasant and approachable. I think the managers run the hotel extremely well and we wouldn't hesitate in visiting again.

Paying for car parking £6 per day rather extortionate and as a guest I believe it should be free. Meals ending at 7.30 - 8pm, and most nights no bar food, having said that when we did want food they did try to sort this out for us and the manager did explain that the chef was off with covid, so I guess we just fell unlucky.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They kindly moved us to a second room, see comment box below. We had not booked breakfast but were able to sign in for a break-fast on the day. Break-fast was good. As the hotel was not full, plated break-fasts were served and having noted we were vegetarian, vegetarian sausages were provided for us. Having parking available was excellent and the charge was reasonable. Location of the hotel was perfect. We walked down in to the town every evening, and really enjoyed the views around south bay. We were very pleased with our room and the hotel and considered it good value.

Our first room was located over the bar. On the first night the music from the bar was very loud and we could hear it very clearly in our room even over the television. We mentioned this to the reception staff and they kindly moved us to a second room. Later in the week when there were different bar staff, the music was much quieter and I do not think we would have heard it, as we did not hear it in the morning we moved, although it was playing during break-fast. The shower in the second room was small but we were just happy to be away from the music. The pillows were rather flat and lumpy.

Breakfast was fantastic for price and value. It was buffet style food which was on hot plates. We noticed the chef often checking food temperatures regular. Kitchen staff ensured the dining area was clean and pleasant. The Hotel was very friendly staff all staff spoke to us. We booked a double room which was comfortable and clean it had ensuite bathroom with shower,sink,toliet. The room had a TV,Kettle,Warddrobe for clothing plus 2 bedroom tables which were handy for our valuables. The hotel was kept to a high standard we noticed this when walking round the hotel. When we return to Scarborough we will definately consider booking this hotel again just walking distance to the Scarborough Spa Complex.

Modern 3 floor hotel with 60 rooms, in quiet area near the south cliff, with spacious lobby, lift, bar and dining room. We had a superior room on the 1st floor, spacious, with shower over bath, 3 chairs and table, tea/coffee making facilities. Great bed with firm mattress. Buffet breakfast nice and hot. Staff friendly and hard working. Dog friendly.

Parking at the back is awkward with cones and notes everywhere. The staff does not understand that having a guide dog is NOT like having a pet, still wanted us to sit in the bar with it, away from the breakfast room. A guide dog should be allowed anywhere. Our room should have had net curtains, the flats opposite the hotel have straight view into our room and bathroom.

The room was clean and a good size, and the bed was comfortable. I was glad to see that there were two large arm chairs. At night there was very little traffic noise and we slept well. For £1 per day a car a parking pass can be bought at reception, to be used on the local roads. This is a much better option than using the car park. It's a nice area to walk around, and not far from the sea front. The breakfast was excellent.

Warning - the car park is run by a national parking company, not the hotel. You will be charged £6 every time you enter or leave the car park, as the company record your movements. I wasn't keen on the frozen mixed vegetables with evening meal. The TV could not receive BBC1 or BBC2.
