Full English cooked to order, really good. Chef came out to take orders in person. The breakfast room is huge, taking up the whole of the basement area. It's also used as a carvery on Sundays. Rooms are being updated with new beds, wardrobes & bedside tables. Evening meals available in bar area, good pub grub.

Each room has shower over the bath, which could be replaced by a walk in shower, providing safer access, saving space, water, & power.

We enjoyed our overnight stay the staff were lovely the food was very good and the room was very clean we had a sea view bonus! We were provided with a parking disc and were able to park on the road outside the hotel. The hotel was clean warm and all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We liked the fact that the hotel bar was open to the local community too which made it more welcoming for families and was pet friendly. We wish the new management team all the very best and we are sure you will be very successful in putting your own stamp on your hotel. Thank you!

Just one minor thing I would like to suggest that a bottle of water is supplied with the tea coffee in the room as not everyone including myself drinks hot drinks. Water supplied at breakfast would be beneficial too.

The staff were welcoming very friendly, the hotel was immaculately clean, the room was huge loved that there was plenty of tea coffee even hot chocolate, there wasn’t just enough for 3 people with 1 cup only there was loads which I found brilliant. The beds were really comfortable with plenty pillows. There were plenty of towels too. The room was warm with a little sofa and a TV. The dining room was lovely and the breakfast was great you get a huge choice, there’s plenty of cereals, jams and butter and really nice fresh bread to make toast and you order the hot food. You are given keys so you can come and go as you please. We only stayed 1night but we were all really comfortable and went home full from the breakfast. Would definitely recommend it was very homey and when we go back to Scarborough we will be booking here again

Only downside was parking we had to park about 5 minutes away

The staff were great, very friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Good view from the room. Great location for the Spa.

We stayed in the "Youngers" room. As the bathroom window is large and CLEAR glass you have to pull the curtains on and the lighting isn't very good. Ladies (and men?) - you can't use the bathroom to put your make-up on, it's too dark. The only other mirror is on the side of the wardrobe in the small area outside the bathroom so you have to use that. But there's no plug socket in that space so you can't use it for a hair dryer/straighteners. Oh, and the bathroom door is also CLEAR glass but round a corner so you don't see into it from the main room. It's also got a very noisy saniflow loo which also sets off when you run the tap and randomly a couple of times during the night.

Views and location were brilliant, a lovely quiet area about 5-10 mins walk into town. Quadruple room with sea view was large and bright, beds were comfy, had a large bathroom, all very clean. With two windows and beautiful views over the harbour and castle it was well worth paying extra to be on the front. Pub was really nice, reasonably priced drinks, food choice looked good and prices reasonable again. Didn't have anything but only because it was quite late and we were going into town. Breakfast was really good with plenty to eat, staff were really friendly and helpful. All this area and in most of Scarborough it is parking disc zones but managed to get parked on the road just up from the hotel and in the hotel reception they give you a disc or scratchcards for free parking. If you are able, then definitely walk down onto the front towards the spa area through the gardens - there are both steps and slopes for those less mobile just outside the hotel. Lots of searing areas on the way down to stop and look at the amazing views over all of Scarborough bay on the way down. The spa is a lovely old building and you can sit outside the clock cafe near the bottom (but still in an elevated position with beautiful views) watching the world go by with a drink. There's also the cliff railway if you dont want to walk all the way back up. Been to Scarborough before on several occasions, stayed in the town and not really enjoyed it at all. Staying in this area of it has completely changed my opinion on this lovely town.

There was a pump on the toilet which was necessary for the plumbing work . It was very noisy when flushed so just had to remember not to flush it during the night. Definitely not the hotels fault, just the age of the building. There was a lift but didn't look like it was being used-not a problem for us but elderly and disabled may struggle with the steps to the rooms. Breakfast room was in the basement because the bar area was upstairs and again there were steps to go down. There was a small and separate dining area near the bar, I'm sure for exceptional circumstances that they would be happy to use this for customer that may be less mobile. As i said the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

The room had a delightful view and the full english breakfast was lovely, all freshly cooked to order. Staff were very helpful, there were a few problems with the room on our stay but Julian the manager and the housekeeping team - particularly Michelle were very supportive and helpful.

This property is a busy bar alongside the restaurant and hotel, parking is on the street via a permit and at times you may have to park a short distance away. The cooked breakfast also seems to be served betweeen 8 and 9am, if you're after a lie in this may be a factor.

The people that work there. It's a new management and they are busy making everything new and tidy. We assume that most of the things we did NOT like will be better in the future. The breakfast was really good and quite a good plate (Traditional English). The room was nice (not to the sea but rather big) and the beds were fine. It's a lovely position, too.

Most of all: there was NO warm water because the plumbers were working on that the whole week. This is certainly understandable but it could and should have been communicated earlier and it should have caused a reduction in the price. The flushing of the toilet did not work to well but suitable enough. But it took a long time to refill and there were no hooks in the bathroom to put up towels. The carpet in our room was not very well hoovered but still clean enough for us not to feel bad about it.

Everything about the Highlander was fantastic, staff were very professional and helpful. The breakfast was unbelievable. The only drawback for us was that the lift was out of order, and at age 71 I had to walk up 2 flights of stairs, as did my friend who has a hip problem.

Great room with a marvellous view over the bay. Great food. Brilliant hosts. Comfortable room Reasonably priced drinks in the bar

Hotel is in a fantastic location. Easily accessible from the Train Station and has the benefit of beautiful views over the sea. We stayed in the Seaview family room. The beds were extremely comfortable and we enjoyed a very peaceful night's sleep. Breakfast was lovely with a good selection of options on offer. We particularly enjoyed the self serve full English on the Sunday morning. Staff were attentive and very helpful.

Although we cannot fault our stay as a whole. I did feel that in some areas the accommodation could benefit from some updating. The shower dial was very stiff and made temperature control impossible. The shower could only be switched on and off by leaving the bathroom and flicking the switch on the wall in the passageway. The bath took an extremely long time to fill up as well. The bathroom lighting wasn't fantastic and the bedroom door had to be pulled with more force than you'd expect to make sure it was closed. These issues aside, we had a wonderful stay.

The hotel is nicely located with views of the sea. Parking in the street was ok, with a scratch card provided to display in the car valid for the duration of the stay. The room was big with good beds allowing for a good nights sleep. The shower was functional.

The breakfasts were fine, could perhaps improve on the quality of the bread and get some higher percentage meat sausages. At the time there was scaffolding on the outside of the hotel, obscuring some of the views.
