Breakfast was varied with plenty of options and served efficiently by friendly staff. My room was very adequate for my needs, cleaned and replenished daily by efficient friendly staff. The central town location was excellent for visiting the town and for all travel links elsewhere. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient and the is a good atmosphere.

For my own needs everything was fine overall. There was some traffic noise from the Wyle Cop as my room was at the front of the hotel but nothing to complain about. The general feel of the hotel is a bit tired in the shabby chick style which means that cleaning is more difficult to achieve a good standard. No lift but too expensive to replace. If stairs are a problem the staff will alter the room floor if that is possible on request.

Friendliness of Japanese/Thai receptionist; attitude of breakfast attendants (2 young men); location of room; age of hotel set the right tone for visiting Shrewsbury; variety of breakfast choices; nearness to shopping centre and streets; availability of car parking space

Only being allowed to stay in car park till 11am (check-out) after paying £5 for parking from arrival time. I think that this could be extended to later on. I also minded paying for this car parking. Fine ... £10 for breakfast. But the extra for the car parking is a bit questionable. The table light in my bedroom was not working, and I presume the bulb had blown. This could have been checked. Otherwise everything was very nice. Perhaps when guests are checking in (around 5ish) there should be 2 people on reception. I have to wait about 15 mins to check in.

Beautiful historic building, very nicely preserved in time while still maintaining suitable standards expected of a modern hotel. We loved the whole vibe of this 16th Century Coaching Inn and were made to feel very welcome by staff. The top floor room was quiet and spacious with views over the old rooftops. Having read some comments about the fact that it needs updating we were apprehensive at first, however were pleasantly surprised that this is in fact the whole point of the building! Entering this place is like going back in time to another world. Parking on-site was cheap and driving down the old cobbled lane to get there was an experience in itself. Our room was very quiet, being on the top floor, and very spacious indeed. Bed was super comfortable and there was a nice large bath with shower in spacious bathroom. We were very much impressed by the rustic feel of the place and have vowed to return in the future.

A little bit expensive, but in comparison to the general prices of accomodation in the town we feel it provided good value as a one-off treat.

Great central location, some of the hotel is in need of an update e.g. carpets on the stairs are threadbare but the entire place is spotless and decorated in keeping with the age of the building. Our room was lovely. Old fashioned furniture but lots of space and the hot water in the bathroom was almost instant, also the heated towel rail was on all the time keeping the fluffy towel warm.

The breakfast was good but, a bugbear of mine, some mornings there was nowhere to throw your discarded teabags or cereal packet. I would have preferred a pot of tea at the table. Sometimes the only fresh fruit left was sliced watermelon as the banana and apple had been taken and no fresh replaced.

Good friendly staff. Perfect location, car parking, cozy bar opened late. Decent breakfast and efficient room service.

Hotel is dated, really needs a refurbishment, but it's still got its charms. Some noise at night from a generator or something. Shower was either belting hot or chilly, control was a bit shonky. Pillows were a bit thin, and no spare bedding or blanket.

The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, we wanted a room with twin beds and en-suite which was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was a choice of fruits, toast , cereal and av menu placed on the table for other items to be ordered food was delicious. This establishment is in the city centre, close to shops, food, museum, castle and boat rides. I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this coaching Inn Hotel.

There was nothing we didn't like, yes this place is squeaky and old fashioned but it's history is everywhere for all interested.

The location is in the centre of town and parking on site is possible at £5 a day. The the twin room was right at the top of the building. It was a good size and nice and airy. It was quiet, even with all the windows open in the middle of summer. I would definitely stay here again.

The building has lots of stairs and glass panel doors to get to the very top. They were not fire doors, so it would have been helpful if the doors had been secured open to make it a lot easier to get through with suitcases.

staff are lovely, polite and helpful and breakfast was great everyday

reaching the top floor with no lift, over 5 nights has left us exhausted. 2 bulbs in room not working. furniture in room needs updating, ripped and worn chair. bed although old was ok but couldn’t sit in it to drink morning brew as headboard seemed to lean in?! and had to put towels down back of mattress or we lost our pillows down the gap between mattress and headboard.

Food was lovely, all areas of hotel very clean, staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Good parking at hotel is a bonus. Great location in town.

Not really applicable because it’s an old hotel so I won’t even suggest air conditioning. But the room was extremely hot even with all windows open, maybe a fan in rooms could be arranged. With hindsight we probably should have asked at reception- maybe one was available on request, so can’t really complain we didn’t ask.

Room was basic but clean and tidy, could do with being more modern. Comfortable bed and a good night sleep. Hotel is old so a lot of squeaky floor boards. Breakfast was good but no serving spoons for prunes or fruit. No teaspoons on first morning and when we spoke to the girl she just said use your big spoon on the table as I cannot find any tea spoons. Second morning everything was in place and no issues. We would stay here again but in a better room.

Proper spoons set out at breakfast, had to use big spoon off of our table for prunes as no serving spoons and use the same spoon for stiring my tea as no tea spoons.
