Wonderful hotel in Stafford’s oldest Inn . Loads of character although it may be difficult if you are less mobile as there’s a few stairways to negotiate. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious . The room was small but adequate with a big, comfy bed so we slept well. The only thing that lets this stay down was the bathroom. It’s very small ,no bath just a shower but that’s okay , I can deal with that. What I couldn’t deal with was the black mould which hadn’t been cleaned from the shower door . It was all down the metal part of the door and around the glass part . I did ask for it to be cleaned but it wasn’t . I ended up using loo roll and soap and cleaning it off myself . What a shame as it spoiled the experience in this lovely property.

We had phoned prior to the visit with some queries regarding the stay which the staff were happy to assist with. The lady on reception was warm and welcoming happy to assist us in any way she could. The room was cute and cosy and the bed was memory foam mattress so was very comfortable after a long journey up to Stafford. The shower had a decent water power. In the morning we had breakfast which was cooked perfectly. Reasonably priced for what you get! The decor is historic but chic.

The walls were a little thin so we did hear people going to the toilet and shower in the morning but this wasn’t something which affected our sleep.

Had two evening meals at the hotel and was joined by friends, the food was very good. Throughout my stay hotel staff could not do enough for you. Thankfully I did not experience previous negative reviews of shower water not hot enough and poor food. The hotel is in an excellent location.

On a couple of nights the room was too hot for sleeping. Although the bathroom was clean and I had no concerns using it, the detailing left a lot to be desired, ie, in the corners and behind the taps.

The hotel is the oldest in Stafford, so expect an old building, for me this was a plus. My room was in the newer part, perfectly comfortable. The reception was really very friendly. A quaint, quirky place, the sort of thing that is rapidly disappearing in the world.

The breakfast started a bit late for me, and the dinner hour ended way too soon for someone travelling and full of appointments. Even if the full cooked breakfast were not yet available it would be ideal to have at least coffee and a Danish ready, and in the evening just a simple sandwich would do even though the cook has gone home.

The food was really good, hubby had a classic breakfast, I had poached eggs on toast, had a meal there as well. Looked forward to Sunday roast, but they had none left, probably should have ordered the roast at the time of booking the table. Power shower good, lovely big bed, tea and coffee in the room, no hot choc.

I would have liked brighter lighting, not very good for putting on make up. To fill the kettle using the sink, because of the tap position you lost half the water. We ended up filling the kettle using a cup.

Central location with private parking to the rear, food was excellent with a varied menu, friendly staff with local knowledge and suggestions of places to see. The room was spacious with comfy beds and good sized bathroom with bath and shower over. The one thing is for those with disabilities, the rooms upstairs are accessed by narrow stairs and levels as the pub is a traditional historical site so not easily managed.

Everything was great but if I had one setback, it was the check-in at 2pm, we were only there for the day and felt like we were wasting time hanging around from lunchtime... we did wait in town then returned to the vine around 12.30 then had a couple of drinks waiting then until 2pm to check-in b4 being able to meet up with family.

Location is fabulous for town centre access and just a short walk to the Gatehouse Theatre. Made to feel very welcome upon arrival at reception and during our stay.

WD40 needed to remove all the lime scale from the bottom of the shower door and around the basin of the toilet. Floor boards really need to be replaced in most places, as you are conscious of disturbing others and them disturbing you. Room was lovely and bed very comfy, however room was very hot and couldn't turn radiator off. Thankful a fan was available in the room and that helped alitttle.

The old hotel is a little frayed around the edges but the staff is absolutely lovely with the sort of service that isn't seen much these days. We decided to eat there and had a tasty meal at a reasonable price. They also had the absolutely most comfortable mattess and pillows we've had in a long time. It is also a very quiet setting so not a lot of street traffick.

It is just a little old and dingy in the rooms. But as I said before, it did what it was supposed to do and we'd go there again if we are in the area.

This was a very interesting place to stay, it's a very old building, so quite quirky...but that added to its charm. The room was pleasant, the staff were lovely and very welcoming, the food was excellent..and great value . I enjoyed my stay. 😊

The ensuite was quite old ..and so not as plush as I am used to, but as it's an old building it's to be expected, but it did the job, everything worked, tap in the sink worked a little too well, maybe a warning to turn gently to prevent the floor getting soaked.

Our stay was excellent value for money. I booked early and was so glad I did as the train strikes would have made it difficult to get home otherwise and no doubt pushed up the prices of accommodation in the area. The town centre location is brilliant and the beds (as always) were really comfortable, meaning I had a great nights sleep. I have stayed here before and will definitely stay again

The room was a little on the small side compared to a twin room I’ve stayed in here before and there was no bath (which disappointed my friend more than me). Otherwise everything was excellent
