There appears to have been a refurb which has been done nicely. Shutters on the window and doors in the room and overall the room was well presented. Staff are a strong point as everyone we came into contact with in Reception, Bar and restaurant were very helpful. Great location. There are a couple of negatives but not big issues. We have stayed here before and would stay again when next in Whitstable.

Negatives with the room are the standard hotel spots outside which cast a bit light into the room through the shutters and some noise from the room above during the night. Food was good but would have expected more seafood on the menu. Shames that the hotel as dispensed with cask ale. They did not have the volume to justify apparently. Understand but American hopped beer in the middle of Hop Kent seems a bit strange. Bit like being only offered Zinfandel wine in the middle of Burgundy. I think breakfast should be included in the rate that we paid.

Hotel was clean except for the bathroom which had dust on surfaces. Some electrics looked suspiciously unsafe. Staff were a mixed bunch but one girl, wears glasses was head and shoulders above the rest. Very professional and always went a step further to help. Compared to the other girl who looked depressed and had issues, not pleasant or helpful, totally useless as for example she could not split bills. Rooms were good, overlooking the sea. Easy, short walk to Tankerton Heights. Would stay again.

Many, depressed unhelpful girl waitress. Not the girl who wears glasses. Did not get her name. Bathroom could have been dusted better and was tiny.

I booked five rooms for Sunday 30 July, as part of an extended family celebration of 70th birthday. We didn't eat at the hotel, as there is no food service on Sunday evening. Instead, we went to the nearby Lobster Shack, part of the same group, which was excellent. Neither did we take breakfast, as I'd organised bacon sarnies to be served in South Quay shed just before we boarded the Thames Barge, Greta, for a six-hour cruise (also excellent). The rooms in the hotel were first class, and the bar service (which we made good use of!) was attentive and professional. A word too about the kitchen organisation. I watched and was very impressed by a thorough kitchen clean down taking place at the end of the lunch service on 30 July. It inspired confidence that this aspect of the business is also well managed.

We love the Continental and stay there quite frequently. It’s in a great spot, it’s relaxed and friendly and we feel at home. The breakfast is good, the general standard of the accommodation is good and it includes free parking.

We were in room 2, which is a tad small. I think it needs a divan bed rather than the wooden framed one that’s there. The bed looks good and is very comfortable to sleep on, but I bashed my leg on it 3 times as there is so little room between the bed and the door. Wooden bed frames and soft flesh hitting each other are not a good combo!

It's not the first time we've stayed at the Hotel Continental and I'm sure we'll stay there again. The rooms are light and nicely decorated and always a pleasure to stay in. The sea view rooms are particularly lovely and I love the extra touch of having binoculars to look out to see with. The location is a short walk to the main streets and is right on the beach. The breakfast is excellent value and cooked fresh.

The rooms are usually good value but can be expensive during peak season (unsurprisingly). As it's an old building there are lots of stairs and corridors so if you struggle with mobility, it's probably not the ideal hotel for you.

Our room was lovely with a lovely view into the bay. The location is ideal for walks and the town. The food was good quality and service was really good and cheerful. We loved the three rooms on the ground floor especially the bar lounge which was very comfortable and welcoming. The huge windows were also a great feature.

There was noise from the room above sounding like clogs walking on a wooden floor even in the middle of the night. The bed was comfy but not very wide. There was limited space for storing clothes. Otherwise it would have been perfect. On the Friday evening the music was really loud, good songs but not always the best rendition.

In a quiet and peaceful spot overlooking the sea, just outside the town. (Only a couple of minutes' walk.) It was good to have free parking for our stay, as the public car parks are very expensive (£2.80 ph in season). The hotel has been refurbished and the decor is tasteful, bright and seaside-y, with some lovely original art in the rooms and the public areas. Generous tea tray in the room, and good shower room en suite. The rate doesn't include breakfast, but there's a good selection of reasonably priced dishes on offer in the large restaurant downstairs.

The room was very compact and the bed was a small double. If that had been specified I'd have opted for a larger bed.

We loved the place! The staff were great and helpful, the food was excellent especially Breakfast! The place we stayed in, Penny's Lodge was lovely and we wished we could have stayed longer!! It was a whole little house on it's own, with views of the sea! It was also quiet!! It's in a good location right by the beach, and not far from buses into Whitstable town that also went passed the train station!! We are hoping to go back again soon!

There wasn't anything we can think of that was negative!

It was such a pleasant surprise from the moment we walked into Hotel Continental - we received a warm welcome, lovely service & the hotel has an unbeatable location. Traveling as a family of 5, it was fantastic to have the Family Room complete with proper beds for everyone to enjoy a comfortable restful sleep. Complimentary secure parking for our car on location added to this great guest experience.

Sadly we could only stay 1 night this time. Look forward to returning to the Hotel, perhaps the Fishermans Huts.

Convenient and central beachside location; close to Whitstable central. Pleasant reception and other ancillary staff. Room had been renovated, painted with small fridge. Breakfast is extra but with good quality offerings.

Room was on the squeazy side and no air-conditioning; window difficult to open. Have to be there early to get parking voucher for spot. Limited free parking on site.
