The location, only a few steps from York Minster and the city centre, was absolutely fantastic. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern. The breakfast portions were very generous.

The temperature of the shower water was difficult to control and could be scalding hot. The form for ordering breakfast was somewhat confusing if you were ordering for more than one guest. There was some very noisy karaoke amd shouting (not sure if it was from the hotel or somewhere else locally) which continued very late amd kept us awake. Some of the seating in the patio area was too high and uncomfortable.

We stayed in the room that apparently Guy Fawkes was born in, said the staff! The room was great despite the door being on the ground floor and in the corner of the restaurant. After closing time it was very quiet. We loved it. Not much natural light with just one window overlooking the inner courtyard but lots of electric lights and very atmospheric and in keeping with the inn and the history of York. All of the staff were great, helpful and pleasant. The bathroom was spacious but the shower was only warm at first but got sorted very promptly by a manager who made a point of finding us to apologise. The location is fabulous being right opposite the Minster and a short walk from the Shambles, shops, bars & pubs etc. There’s no car park but we parked in the Monk gate overnight for £20. We had a brilliant time, thank you Guy Fawkes Inn.

Breakfast was excellent but a minor groan was it was brought to the table too quickly while we were still eating the fruit/ cereal starter. No car park but it’s an old city centre pub and there are three within a 10 minute walk, so no problem if you are fit and mobile.

Great room. Location right in the heart of York. Great food really tasty. Big shout out to David tour guide brilliant. This is free for all guests staying overnight.

The staff. Don't know if it's an age thing. Didn't ask if we needed help with luggage. As room was on top floor. Young staff with attitude . Bar staff, we're very rude. Costs nothing to be friendly polite or even crack a smile. REAL SHAME . The door on the staircase opens onto stairs, and you have to step back downstairs when opening it instead of opening onto landing. This is a real safety hazard .

Staff were friendly and inviting however after being told to come indoors at just getting settled in the cosy garden we were then told we could stay in and enjoy drinks at the bar as guests. We were then 10mins later told by a different member of staff to take drinks up to the room. We wouldn't have minded however the room was tiny and we had to shimmy past the bed to the toilet. It was stifling hot and the window wouldn't stay open so didn't get much sleep. Woken early by the residents and staff shouting good morning at each other and banging doors. At £109 a night the room only was not worth it. A shame as we came with friends in December and looked at staying based on their experience.

The hotel was beautiful and I hadn't realised just how close to the minster it was when I booked it. It was practically at the foot of it. The hotel itself was clean and in keeping with the historical time period. I had wondered if this would mean it was quite shabby, but no, everything was well presented and looked after and we stayed in a beautiful room. The uneven wonky stairs took a bit of getting used to. It made me feel a little drunk at first going down them but I took it as the charm of the place and the original features. The breakfast was included and was amazing. The quality of food was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all it was the perfect base for our night away and we wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

Love the Guy Fawkes Inn. Lovely boutique hotel with old world charm in great location in York. Easy walk from the station, very close to York Minster and perfect for a visit to Theatre Royal - just around the corner. We stayed for breakfast and dinner and both were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable, clean, cosy, stylish and had everything we needed. Thoughtful inclusion of earplugs - I guess in case you don’t want to be disturbed by the Minster bells or the beer garden. We didn’t need them though.

Cant really fault it without serious nitpicking! Would definitely stay again.

The room was very cosy with a gothic vibe - the bed was very comfy and the decoration was lovely. Perfect location for exploring the city and the food was delicious - we'd definitely stay here again.

The room was smaller than expected (the room type we booked was the only one with no photos on the hotel website) but this was just an initial first impression. The 'view into the courtyard' advertised was just a wall mural, everything else was covered up. On the morning we checked out we were hoping to ask to leave our bags until our train home but there were no staff present to ask.

Its a fantastic old building, full of character, really nice lively bar. We didn't eat here but the Sunday lunches i saw being served looked fantastic. The staff were really friendly and the location couldn't be better.

The only issue was our room. It was the Guy Fawkes suite which is at the end of the beer garden. The beer garden was beautiful with heaters, fur throws and blankets and fairy lights, and was very popular, hence the problem. The noise was really bad. It literally felt like all those people were sitting in the room with us! If you kniw you're going to be out till late then ut would be fine but otherwise I would avoid this particular room. I would imagine rooms in the main building would be a bit quieter and feel like they had more separation.

Perfect location, and a really gorgeous, atmospheric room with beautiful period furniture. I particularly loved the bath! I was a bit concerned when I saw our room opened directly onto the beer garden but it didn’t bother us at all. Curtains were thick which made it feel more private and the noise was muffled and barely noticeable. Can’t fault the staff- Everyone we met was friendly, smiley and helpful. I loved that we were able to drop our cases off even before our room was ready so that we could go exploring for the day without dragging suitcases around.

For our entire stay there was what we think must be an extractor fan from the kitchens next door which was a bit noisy. We still slept, but definitely annoyed us a bit as it was constant. Also noticed small stains on the bedsheets which was a bit off putting.

The pub is very atmospheric and makes the most of it’s historical links with Guy Fawkes. It’s next to the Minster, so a perfect location to get to the main shopping/ tourist areas of the city. The staff are all really friendly and the food in the restaurant is fantastic. we have stayed 4 times now and love it!

There is nothing not to dislike, but if you have an upper room be aware that the stairs ( due to the age of the building) can be challenging!
