Absolutely everything, location, character, staff, cleanliness. Everything was brilliant and I would definitely tell people it is worth the money to stay here. We came for our first wedding anniversary and did several things (minster, ghost tour, shambles, jorvik centre) and it was extremely easy to get to everything. Parking was just around the corner at marygate long stay carpark which was a 5 minute walk. Couldn't fault any of it.
We couldn't find anything to write here. We genuinely couldn't think of any negatives for The Fat Badger. Wasn't noisy even though we had a room just above the front door we managed perfectly fine even with the window open.

The location was excellent right under the Bootham Bar and attached pub was great. Back "secret" garden was beautiful and the staff was very helpful, -especially when I've had a few pints and couldn't find the stairs to my room... The food and service was wonderful and the room was spacious and the bed heavenly. The room also had a hair blower and iron/board that came in very useful.
Not unexpected because it is attached to a pub, but the keg rolling right under my room at the wee hours of the morning managed to wake me up both mornings I stayed. The price I paid for the room did not include breakfast, but it can be added on and was delicious. Also, the downside of the place being so good was that I could never find a seat in the garden and only in the pub late into the evening.

The location is great, just around the corner from the York Minster. Breakfast at the hotel is very good. We also ate dinner at the hotel one of the nights, and the food was very good. Above all I have to mention the staff, they were all so friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who was in charge of the breakfast service when we visited.
The only negative things I can say about this place are "nitpicks", as overall I really enjoyed our stay. The door handles are rather low down, at about thigh height on me. It would also have been neat if the room had a desk, or some more "table space", but that really wasn't a big issue at all.

As our allocated room was not available Bella rectified the situation offering an alternative room with breakfast or to move us to the sister hotel at Guy Fawkes. We chose Room 2 with a view and Bella ensued she would make our stay pleasant knowing that we had just experienced an horrendous stay. Bella enthused us with her recommendation of a super Indian Restaurant close by for dinner. Bella deftly served a sumptuous breakfast to us the following morning including oat milk, fresh fruit and granola. What a super member of staff making our stay comfortable and must enjoyable - we shall be returning to stay later in the year.
Upon arrival checked in allocated Room 9, how ever entering the room discovered another resident had left belongings not pleasant, however Bella apologised.

Good central location. Very nice breakfast. Friendly staff. Quirky building.
Bed was too soft and too high, being short in height it was very difficult to get into. Lots of stairs up to some bedrooms so would not recommend for anyone with walking difficulties. Being a very old building soundproofing was none existent and was very noisy if your room faced the street, noise from street late at night and bins being emptied anytime from 5am did not make for a good nights sleep.

The hotel was in the centre of York within a few minutes walk of all the attractions and historic areas. The room was quaint but was extremely comfortable with ample facilities. Towels were changed daily and the rooms were cleaned daily if requested. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of food. Staff were always at hand should you request more tea, coffee, toast, etc
The staircase to the rooms was steep so may not suit those with mobility issues but we accepted that this added to the quaintness of the historic building. The dinner menu was limited and was fixed for the season so choices were limited

Quirky and fun decor, lovely smiling staff, great food (especially the breakfast) and a brilliant location literally just up the road from amenities and the stunning York Minster and the Shambles. I had a garden view which overlooked the beer garden and some of the city walls which was nice.
Narrow staircase to get up to room with a case, slightly awkward windows (had ro be careful the wind didn't take them), room was quite warm for the time of year although I did use the fan provided.

The Fat Badger is in an excellent location. The room was very pleasant and comfortable for our stay.
The windows do not close properly which made the outside noise sound like it was in the room with us especially when the bins were emptied early hours in the morning and a delivery turning up with barrels of beer at 6am. However we do appreciate this is a very old building and the bins/delivery may only happen on a Monday morning had we been staying another night I would have asked this question and requested to move room if possible.

Breakfast was perfect, the bed was very comfy. The location was perfect being so close to the wall and Cathedral. The building itself was lovely, very quirky with all the art dotted around and traditional. The staff were really helpful and lovely.
The only thing the people that we travelled with complained about was the noise outside late at night. People walking past and shouting. The bin wagon was also quite noisy at 5am. But these things aren't really something you can change and they definitely wouldn't put us off staying again.

Location was perfect; room was very comfortable and meals were very good. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Lovely hot showers!
Not your fault but being an older couple meant that climbing the stairs to the top floor was a chore. Two things I did feel could be improved in the bathroom. Another towel rail or hooks on the back of the door, would have been helpful. There was probably room for another little shelf in the bathroom too. My main issue though was getting in and particularly out, of the shower. It is quite a step out and I would have been much more comfortable if there had been a hand rail to hold onto.
