We asked for a quiet room and got one which was lovely. Hotel was nicely decorated and breakfast was good.

We had no hot water and had to have a cold shower - we told the receptionist who was uninterested. There was no reduction on the bill which we would have expected having paid £220 for one nights B&B.

The location can't be beat. The hotel is virtually at the front steps of York Minster, the great cathedral and principal attraction in York. It is also a relatively easy walk from the train station. Our room was well appointed. Breakfast was very good with hot breakfast selections cooked to order. Service was prompt.

The weather during our three night stay was very warm. As the room was not air conditioned, it was at times uncomfortably warm. We made good use of the fan provided, but one of the two windows in the room was not operative, so we could not ventilate as effectively as we would have preferred.

Excellent hotel, smack bang in the middle of York, right next to the Minster, so you will never lose your way back. Hotel room was spectacular, lovely super king sized bed, nice sized room and excellent en-suite. The facilities in the room were good also with plenty of tea/coffee making along with biscuits (always welcome). Our room had a lovely outlook and although on a road, there was not much noise. The weekend we were there was exceptionally hot, so a Dyson Fan had been placed in our room for us, which was most welcome. Breakfast was included and there was a good choice to choose from, cold or cooked. All very nice. All the staff we had contact with were friendly, helpful and went above and beyond.

Could not fault the hotel on anything!

The location was fabulous . It’s position next to York Minster made it easy to find and return to. The exterior of the building is beautiful and the staff were very helpful. The valet parking made the arrival and departure very easy in the heart of the city. The fish and chips we ate on the first night were exceptional . The rooms were clean and pleasant. The body wash and moisturiser etc smelt lovely. We stayed in a cosy double which was fine. I am so glad that we did not upgrade to a standard double for an extra hundred pounds.

I was hoping for a luxurious, traditional interior that felt special. We had booked for an evening meal on both nights but cancelled the second one as the dining room had no atmosphere what so ever. The dining room could have been beautiful but it felt underwhelming . It was fine for breakfast but not special enough for a nice supper. There were no complimentary bathroom bits and pieces - shower cap , nail file etc which I was surprised at, as I always use the shower cap, so that was a bit inconvenient. There were no housekeeping numbers or reception numbers provided in the room and no welcome sheet explaining the Wi-Fi etc. just things that have always been in other hotels which we have stayed in.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Location was great and so close to parks river shops bars and restaurants. The feature double rooms also have views of/towards york minster which is really amazing.

We originally booked a ground floor room. The room had no windows only a sky light. It had a remote controlled blackout blind and air conditioning but we prefer a view and the ability to open a window for fresh air. The hotel were very accommodating when we requested moving us to a feature double room which only cost £20 more per night.

Every single member of Staff was friendly,polite and helpfull. You can instantly see the care taken in the presentation and cleanliness of the Hotel, Fabulous room with a fabulous view of the Minster. The Valet parking is a must, as parking in York center overnight as we normally do, is much more expensive, and the Valets were so proffesioinal and courteous. The food and drink is top notch and in another league to our normal choice of "lodge" when we travel. And here is the best thing, we got a five star stay, with five star service, Valet parked in the center of York and finely fed and watered for only slightly more than we normally pay .

I can honsetly say if something was wrong I will mention it, but there was nothing wrong and nothing we didnt like or love!

The staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly Frank, who helped with our luggage. Our room had the best possible view of York Minster, although it was less accessible than some rooms (with no lift in that part of the hotel). The public areas were pleasant and well cared for, and the bar and restaurant/breakfast room were pleasant - and with views towards York Minster. Our room was comfortable, with the amenities one would expect in a hotel of this kind. It was very nice to have valet parking!

No complaints at all. For anyone with mobility difficulties, it may be worth checking if your room will have access via a lift rather than just stairs. There was some noise from the street overnight - but that is entirely to be expected right in the middle of a city!

Had a two night stay. Location could not have been better. We were very pleased it offered parking. The hotel was a few yards from the Cathedral and a short distance from the theatre I wanted to visit. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They had a good knowledge of the area and were able to give suggestions about places to eat. It has a lift. The room we had was large with a lot of original features. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room and bathroom were both very clean. The breakfast was included in the price of our stay. There was a good selection of fruit breads and cereals and cooked food. I would definitely visit again.

Expensive but not over priced for where it is located.

We paid £119 for one night which compared well to others but seemed cheap for this hotel. Valet parking was £25. When checking 24 hours in a carpark, the valet parking worked out cheaper and much more convenient. We dropped our bags off early and left the car for them to park. When we checked in later, our bags were in the room. Excellent, as they were a bit heavy. The room was very nice and had a great view of the Minster. Very convenient location and Lovely breakfast too. Overall, excellent and the staff were very nice too. We would definitely stay again at that price.

Although there were lifts, there wasn't one to our floor so 2 flights of stairs. No problem though. Exercise is good.

Ideally located. Very comfy beds, great food and staff were the perfect hosts, albeit they said that they were short staffed. It was my wife’s birthday and I’d been in contact with the hotel to have some flowers in the room. We’ll, they didn’t let me down. Perfect.

As always, parking is very steep in York, and The Dean didn’t let me down.
