The hotel itself has a quaint and charming atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. From the moment I stepped into the original lift, I knew I was in for a unique and memorable stay. The location of the hotel is perfect for those who want to explore San Diego on foot. It's conveniently situated within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants, and shops. The bed in our room was incredibly comfortable, providing a great night's sleep after a day of exploring. It's worth noting that the rooms at the Palihotel are on the smaller side. However, this is to be expected considering the hotel's rich history and the fact that it was originally built in 1912.

The staff was wonderful and was quick to address any questions or concerns. The place is very clean and the location is great with lots of dining options nearby. They kept the integrity of the historical era of the building, yet the rooms & beds/bedding are clean and modern.

The temperamemtal AC unit had to be reset by the staff a couple different times due to its erratic functioning/not functioning correctly. But, they were good to quickly address it. More breakfast options at the restaurant/lounge would be good as well. A luggage stand/rack would be nice to have as well. Also, and what he'd not be perfect until the whole room had only one outlet to plug something in. Updating the outlet options for phone plug-in/charging would be a very welcome feature.

Hotel was located perfectly for our needs and wants--we had tickets for the Padre game and we walked there and back easily. Stopped for dinner on the way--many restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter. Then walked to breakfast in the morning. The room/suite was amazing--I rise earlier than my husband and was able to go to the living room and make coffee and read while he slept. Very comfortable and beautiful! Snack candy in the lobby was a treat. Didn't take the vintage two-door lift as our room was easily located on the second floor just off the grand staircase, so we got our exercise. Visited Balboa Park (where we were married 42 years ago), Petco for the game, and Harbor Island--a favorite family hangout when we lived here.

Nothing negative to say

The staff was very pleasant at this hotel which was recently remodeled and originally launched in 1912. The rooms are quite small but are impeccable and spotless.

The ancient elevators grew a little tiresome but that comes with a hotel that was built more than a century ago. For all the trouble opening the doors by hand provided, you could say it added to the classic charm. The hotel is in the middle of the downtown area and parking was a challenge. That provided by the hotel was expensive, almost prohibitively.

It's a renovated hotel with great taste in decor and very pleasant to the eye. Friendly staff that was very accommodating and checked us early and had a great attitude every time we walked in and out. The hotel has a rooftop coming soon and we were there during the opening of the restaurant in it. Would definitely stay here location was right in gaslight quarter. Room was clean and felt very safe. Around the corner is an amazing taco spot

Elevator was a disaster, takes an incredibly long time to get from lobby to room. Doors are heavy and cramped. Granted it is an old building. The rooms were tight for a couple in a king room the space is decorates nicely, but not a lot of room for luggage and to move around. I would stay in this type of room solo but if you are a couple it can get annoying if staying longer then one night.

Small room but had everything we needed. Comfortable bed, beautiful boutique touches. Great location downtown.

There is a lot of street noise at night. We didn't notice they had provided ear plugs until we checked out. The elevator was newly refurbished but was difficult to manage with the heavy metal grate that would close on you while trying to step through. Some children and senior citizens may not be able to manage this on their own.

The hotel is well located in the center of San Diego. it is easy to reach coronada ferry, balboa park and the trolley line 2 (to Mexico). Additionally the interior design of the hotel is vintage and very nice. also the bed is very comfortable. All of the staff was very friendly during the stay. only the price is a bit high, but seems it’s standard in San Diego center, so nothing to really complain about.

I really loved the attention to detail in the decor of the lobby and room. The decor compliments the beautiful 1911 architecture. I also loved the free Swedish Fish and Gummy Bears in the Lobby.

The only thing that shocked me was that parking was $58 a night and there was no complimentary water in the room, but there was artesanal water for $13. Other than that, you can find cheaper parking and buy your own water.

Beautiful interiors from the Wes Anderson-style lobby to the preppy room decor. The staff was very professional and friendly and the brand new restaurant "St James French Dinner" is super cute. Try the cocktails!

The AC was very loud and the room (Deluxe King Room) was very dark as the windows are facing an inner courtyard so there is no natural light. If I knew this, I would have booked a standard room with windows facing the streets.

Great value for its money, location is really good - downtown, close to everything in the Gaslamp district. Enterprise rental car is less than 10 minutes walking away.

It wasn’t really a big issue for me, but I saw people previously comment on the elevator and how slow it is - well, it is vintage and yes it is a bit slow, but something you can live with for sure. Doesn’t really affect your experience.
