A large well-equipped kitchen with spacious sitting area with many tables, where we could work/sudy and socialize. Juice for breakfast is good. kitchen was cleaned by the stuff everyday although some hostellers did not do wash-up. It was only 10 min to Convention Center. Folks staying there were friendly and reasonable. Young, old and families are mixed. Only a few min walk from the Airport bus stop on Broadway/5th Ave. Some fruits are availble for breakfast. The beds are curtained for privacy.

No working can opener. it took 15 min to open a can with 3 people's help. It would be nice to have boxed serials and milk for breakfast. Poriddge was too sweet. Beds on the top were hard to climb up to due to the board nailed on the side. Thus it was Slightly tricky to climb up. Air-bent wasn't working well but opening a window widely helped to get rid of shower dumpt smell.

The Hi San Diego Downtown Hostel is located right in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter, which makes your stay in San Diego quite easy as you can walk / get a bus or trolley to several places within the city and outside of it. The Hostel common spaces are spacious and clean. The kitchen has so many utensils (including a rice cooker and free rice!). The breakfast is served every morning on time and it includes several foods (both sweet and sour). There's always coffee and tea available. Also there's a pool table and games in the common room. Even though it's a busy hostel, the bathrooms were most of the time very clean and I didn't have to ever wait to get to a shower. The staff was also always friendly and they wrote on a black board the activities happening in the city each day. I found this very helpful and cute :) Overall a really nice stay in San Diego.

There were very few power plugs and sockets inside the rooms. Which in hindsight is not really a big deal, as it indeed forces you to stay in the common areas more often and be more social! However, you should inform people about this when they check-in.

I had a great week in San Diego HI. Complimentary breakfast with bagels, cream cheese, jam, banana and coffee. Everything you need to start you day. Love the interior design, plenty of space to chill and relax. The billiard table near the kitchen was great. Washing and drying was only $1 each, bills can easily exchanged into coins at the front desk. The building ist in the gaslamp quarter, and I like the security guidelines while entering the building. Made me feel quite safe.

This is not a dislike, but maybe good to know information. As the building is right in the city center, it was or can be a little bit noisy. The walls seem a little bit thin, and windows were not soundproof. I missed some outlets near or next to my bed, usually I hang out in the common room or floor to charge my phone.

The location is great for nightlife! The hostel is massive and there is a pool table and arcade machines. The showers are warm and nice. They have an indicator light to help you keep your water usage down! Very eco! There is a coin op laundry. I needed to check in at 2am and they did it for me with no issues. Accessible by public transport.

The hostel is in a pretty loud spot for nightlife, which can be great but if you are a light sleeper it could be hard. They give earplugs tho and that was enough for me. It was a bit pricey compared to some other hostels. There were no privacy curtains or anything but I think this is very normal for a US hostel.

The location is central gaslamp quarter. I would definitely choose this place to stay if I am with friends and wanting to go out in gaslamp quarter because of how convenient the location is. However if you want a calm night, simply don’t stay in gaslamp quarter altogether. The hostel in itself is really calm, but the streets sounds (musics, people’s voices) can be heard from the rooms. The room was clean and quite nice, there is a free breakfast, the girl at the reception was nice, the common areas are clean!

Not something I disliked but just a disclaimer for people used to hostels in Europe. Much more older people stay in hostels in America as hotels are expensive.

The hostel's area is great. Nearby, there are various restaurants offering different types of food to suit all tastes. The room is not very large. The shower has a very small enclosure. The staff is very attentive. There is no parking available at the hotel, but there's a building on the corner where parking costs $1 per hour. So it was okay.

There is no television. The bed is not very big; it's a standard double bed. The air conditioner is located behind the curtain, which doesn’t make much sense. The room also lacks sufficient lighting, considering the only window is where the air conditioner is and if you open the curtain, it faces another establishment, offering no privacy.

The place is SPACIOUS and enough to find a hide away place for personal calls without interference The place IS CLEANNNNN totally loved that The beds now have a private curtain so I feel safer sleeping and close my personal bed curtain The manager Monica was awesome and very understanding The front desk staff is awesome I loved their bagels and strawberry cream cheeses n bananas for daily breakfast Despite the night street notice, the inside of the hostel is AMAZINGLY QUITE, and ofcourse earplugs provided by the facility make it manageable In day time, the place is soooo quiet I LOVE IT! I stayed for 14days plus and I soooooo would have loved to stay longer if permitted… THATS how good of a place it worse And it’s sooo central to everything, in the middle of everything Loved it it’s 15 mins walk to the beach for my daily walks

For the value, nothing really. It was good Maybe if windows inside the rooms would open even if like 3-5 inches for some fresh air

The staff were amazing. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We were pleasantly surprised to be told our room was ready when we arrived well before normal check in (we had planned to store our bags until check in). The rooms were clean and comfortable. We ended up moving rooms several times during our 5 day stay (once due to a repair needed for the toilet, once due to street noise in the teplacement room). All three rooms were nice, but there was quite a range in the size of the rooms and bathrooms. Location can't be beat if you want to be in the Gaslamp and there are many options for using San Diego transit nearby.

Honestly, location was a mixed bag for us as we weren't in town to party in the Gaslamp.

The kitchen is clean and super nice to use. The bed was comfortable. Staff is super nice. Loved the fruit+bagel in the morning. I liked that they check the room card for every guest that enters the hostel, felt safe.

Didn’t manage to open the window of our private room, it was difficult to get fresh air in the room. The hostel location is great you can walk to lots of places however it is a very “party” neighbourhood and there are also lots of homeless around… It feels safe because there are always people around but some of the streets smell really bad.

This is maybe the best hostel I have ever been. Its so beautiful inside, the corridors with all those mezmerizing and creative paintings, spacious and comfy room and bed, spacious, well equiped and beautifully looking kitchen and dining place. The location on the 5th street is the best location ever in this city. And I lost my wallet in the hostel and the staff at the front desk was extremelly helpful to finding it. Thanks a lot for making my experience in San Diego to become the best one.

Nothing, everything was perfect.
