The setting in a rain forest and the room decor and the proximity to Volcanoes National Park.

The fact that you could not brush your teeth or wash your face with the tap water. There was a large bottle of cold water in the bathroom. The fact that the restaurant had a very limited number of mains at dinner -- so if you were staying several days as we did, there was nothing new to order. There should at least be nightly specials. The breakfast omelet was excellent. However, it did not come with toast. I paid for a side order of toast and was astonished that it comprised only one piece of toast!

Amazingly friendly, helpful, and warm staff. Excellent location for visiting Volcanoes National Park. Rooms were thoughtfully set-up with 5-gallon drinking water provided, ample pillows, blankets, and towels. With the wonderful staff and keyless entry and text support, just the right balance of technology with a human touch was struck.

The wifi was a bit spotty at times

Located in the heart of Volcano and just minutes to the Visitors Centre. The staff are just so welcoming - from pre-arrival communication to in-person interactions. The rooms are well appointed and so comfy - we just wished we had put on the fire in our room but we did enjoy the fire and looking at all the details of the Friendship fireplace at the on-site restaurant. The restaurant carried on the theme - great personal service and comfort food. My teen said that the tomato soup was the best meal they had on our 3 week Hawaiian adventure. The gift shop also has some really unique items that make fabulous mementos to take home.

The weather stopped us taking advantage of the grounds. The only recommendation I would have is I wish you could order some to-go breakfast items if you have an early departure time.

All around excellent experience. I stayed in an upstairs fireplace room for one night. I was referred to stay here by a gentleman working at the Kilauea Winery. My room was charming with a lot of windows, comfy bed, high ceilings, lovely gas fireplace and hot shower. I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and it was superb! The wood burning fireplace was an absolute delight during dinner too. I enjoyed the staff. They were all super sweet, friendly and helpful. They communicated with you via text to make sure all your questions are answered and I had all I needed. The jacuzzi and 1/2 mile hike on property were wonderful too! I can't wait to return! Also, 5 minutes from the park! Easy come/go stay while exploring the park too!

This is such a charming, idyllic lodge located super-close to Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. The facility was formerly a YMCA camp and it's so unique and has been perfectly updated while still hanging on to the special history. The grounds are beautiful! We most loved the restaurant - the food was amazing; the best meals we had on the entire island. The staff were also very engaging, kind, and helpful.

The only thing we noticed was that there wasn't much insulation between floors - we heard the folks above us moving furniture around.

This place is very special. On arrival I was greeted by Becky who was so helpful about my stay. On arrival into the room I was so very pleased, it was exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated with lots of space. The bathroom has everything you need including heated towels rails and there is a heater in the room when it gets nippy (as it did during my stay in the evening). I ate dinner twice and breakfast once in the restaurant, the staff were accommodating and the food great. There are few options for food in the village so having the restaurant as part of the hotel was very helpful.

On my last day I went for breakfast at the time of my booking (9am) as soon as it opened to be told there was a 45 min wait (on an omelette). I couldn't wait as I needed to get to the airport and think this really could have been managed better. The restaurant opens very late for breakfast (9am) and there is a big influx of people at this time. One suggestion would be to open breakfast earlier for paying guests of the hotel, perhaps from 7.30/8am. This would also help people to spend more time at the National park as people like to get out early to make the most of being in the National Park so 9am is very late to start breakfast.

Kilauea Lodge was everything we love - relaxed, cozy, and incredibly beautiful. Staff were very nice and helpful and the surrounding areas are as magnificent as you would imagine. Highly recommend.

Nothing really. Just remember to prepare ahead of time for any late-night jetlagged needs for food as everything in Volcano closes up around 9pm.

Other than the park lodge this was definitely the best place to stay in the Volcano National Park Area. The room was very clean, spacious and well furnished. and I imagine s were much nicer than the park lodge however the lodge had a bar and restaurant which seemed pretty lively. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had dinner at the restaurant which was good but a little on the pricey side but still nice. Able to park right outside the building.

It would be nice to have a TV in the room just to have something to watch at night. I realize people don't come to Hawaii to sit in their room but thing close early and it would be nice just to have something to watch rather than going to the common room and plugging in a tape. Fo the price we paid a TV would be a nice addition.

The place is beautiful, rooms are surrounded by beautiful plans and trees. Restaurant served a good dinner. Staff were very friendly. And the place is a 5 minute drive from the volcano national park.

In fact, the only problem was the shower. It had low current and the water wasn't warm enough. According to the staff it may happen when some guests try to shower at the same time.
