Alexander Mansion Bed & Breakfast

This was probably the high point of our trip. I'd never stayed in a B&B in the US and didn't really know what to expect. We also didn't know if the excellent reviews meant the place was right for us or not. It was absolutely superb and we already know that we have to go back. Not just the friendliness of the owners or the breakfast (the best I've had anywhere and not rushed at all) or the room and the history of the house but just the 'feel' and the efforts the hosts made to make you feel on holiday. That so many people are repeat visitors tell you everything you need to know. Everything - down to the towels and the soap - was of exceptional quality. The night time Baileys and chocolate was such luxury. I so wish we could have stayed longer.

There was absolutely nothing that I didn't like. Except we could only stay one night because of our schedule. To really relax and get into the swing of it, we really needed more than one (but don't let that stop you staying only one night - it's fabulous)

Proprietor Richard was such a wonderful host! He was very attentive to all the guests' needs. He was also very knowledgeable about restaurants, shops, etc. in the area. Also, he had a wonderful library that included lots of history on the mansion. The five course breakfast was delicious.

It is located on a busy road, but with the windows shut and the air conditioner going, we weren't bothered by traffic noise. Sitting in the the downstairs screened in porch was noisy.

The home was shielded by trees from the road, so it was like going into a secret place when you pull in the drive. Everything in the home was elegant, clean, and filled with history. Richard is a FANTASTIC cook and had wine, cream sherry, and an Irish cream night cap (with chocolates). Also enjoyed conversation over breakfast with the other guests.

The downstairs apartment got a little warm, but this is a minor thing (there was a window AC unit in the living room and a fan available).

The Alexander Mansion B&B is a charming, well maintained old house in central Winona, within walking distance of Winona State University and the downtown area. Our host was very friendly and accommodating, giving us a tour of the facility on our arrival. There's a comfortable common room, where complementary wine and sherry are available in the evenings. Soft drinks are also available at any time. There is good wifi connectivity throughout the building. The Wilson suite has a well-equipped full service kitchen for anyone who wishes to make their own meals.

We didn't really understand that there was a fixed time for the extensive breakfast at 9 AM. Sadly, we had business meetings at 8 and 9 AM for the two days of our stay. The host improvised for us and so we did get a quite good breakfast each day, but perhaps not as fancy as the standard would have provide. (But we understand that making breakfast for each guest to order would not be feasible). As would be expected for an older house, Alexander B&B does not appear to be handicap accessible. The mattress was in need of updating.

The property was gorgeous and the host exceptional. He made us feel at home and we’ll cared for throughout our stay. The elaborate 5 course breakfast by candlelight was incredible!

The pillows could be upgraded as well as the fouton in the downstairs apartment which wasn’t really comfortable enough to sleep on.

Richard is an amazing host. This was our 2nd visit. The breakfasts were amazing. The bed in the king room with the garden view was very comfortable. We were there for our 45th anniversary.

Water pressure in bath was a little bit weak. That was very minor as everything else was extremely satisfying.

Beautiful space, elegant,romantic, wonderful breakfast, charming host, lots of books, directions for those of us visiting on what to do / where to go

Since older building , AC older window units so more noisy; but otherwise a wonderful stay!

Sharing B&B with other delightful strangers who became friends. Richard, the proprietor/host. David, his helper. The breakfasts. The mansion and its furnishings.

Can't think of anything unless one is in a hurry to depart in the morning. Serving and eating the breakfast courses takes time (not a complaint).

We loved the hospitality Richard showed us and all of the guests. He had great suggestions about where to go and what to do. He was a fountain of knowledge and just a wonderful host.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Robert was an exceptional host. We learned the history of the B and B. He provided a tour of the home to show us the different parts of the house we had access to. Lovely library and tea room. he made sure we were comfortable with all the fixtures in our room since the home is a Victorian style and has many 1920’s fixtures . The decor from room to room was fascinating!!
