Quality Inn Salem - I-81

Very comfortable, safe, and clean place. Staff was very nice and available. Breakfast was wonderful as well. Our only issues here waz that housekeeping would open the door when they came Around without even knocking or anything. They never actually walked in without asking us. However, they fully open the door and stuck their head in evrn when door was locked. There was absolutely no privacy there with that. Don't get me wrong, they only did it one time a day. But that was enough if one of us had been Standing there naked or something . The other issue was the fact that we were paying daily. I was making reservations through the websites and paying when I got in from work. I was not able to get there Until close to twelve, when check out was actually at eleven. Even starting the very first day before they were aware of that and every day after, they would come knocking on the door starting a little after ten a m, and we're vety adamant about pwying or leaving the room with my daughter, who was scared by this regardless if I had the reservation or not. Now on the website. It says if I have a reservation. It is available to me until 8 AM the next day and if you don't show up they will Charge your card for the stay regardless. The staff would not recognize this, but were doing what the owner required them to do. Considering check out wa's not until 11, there was no reason for them to be coming any earlier than 11 AM anyway to begin with, then if you look at my reservation time availsble also that is even more reason for them to not start coming until much later than 11 also.. However, starting around 10 AM every day they were actually. coming to the room with only my daughter there, Pushing her about either paying or getting out of the room before Our paid time was up, not even recognizing a reservation time that was available as well. and scaring her in the process. When that was really uncalled for.

Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was like new , refinished. very kind and helpful front desk personnel. HOT breakfast OK. Concerned at first that they allowed pets-dogs only, we were told those rooms are not given to non-pet owners, as they are understanding of allergies that many have And are kept separate on the facility. However we did not see. or hear any dogs on the property.

Rooms have outside access only, 2 levels. Although the normal rate is very affordable, the rate during our stay was WAY overpriced for this property because of VA Tech graduation in Blacksburg 40 minutes away. We had to pay almost 3x the usual price per night, which is the amount usually charged by some upscale hotels, of which this is definitely not. however, other hotels in the area were also booked so we had no choice. 

King size bed was very comfortable, very clean room, bathroom recently refinished, very nice.  Hot breakfast OK- eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, waffle maker, yogurt, cereal. pastries. Coffee was not good, but other options nearby the hotel. desk personnel were very kind and helpful. Concerned at first that they permitted dogs on the property, we were told that they keep these rooms separate for dog owners only, understanding many have allergies to animals. Only dogs were permitted on the property no other pets. However, we did not see, or hear any dogs during our stay.

This is a two level outside-entrance only facility. We stayed three nights, one night at a standard low affordable rate, and the next two nights had to pay nearly three times that low rate because of Virginia Tech graduation that was taking place in Blacksburg, over 40 minutes away. The rate we paid was comparable to a standard rate of a upscale hotel, of which this is certainly not. Because other hotels in the area were completely booked we had no choice but to pay this exorbitant rate for a budget hotel.

everything was great the woman at the desk was so friendly and cheerful - she checked us in and then checked us out the next morning - very pleasant - the hot breakfast was good variety especially loved the biscuits so soft for the biscuits and gravy - she explained the beds were newer and the bathrooms were recently remodeled and they were very attractive and modern.

did not see or realize it was the older style hotel with no interior rooms all rooms are entered from outside - it was 2 story and no elevator only stairs - but she accomodated us with ground floor

The young man at the front desk when I checked in was very personable and nice as was the young woman at the desk the next morning. The breakfast was very good. I appreciated the hot decaf coffee! I especially liked the lighting by the beds. There are extensions to the lights so that one could read in bed and not bother someone in the other bed. What a great idea!

I could occasionally hear some road noise earlier in the evening, but it wasn’t too bothersome.

The room was well laid out, spacious, and clean. I appreciated the clerk's quiet calmness and efficiency. This hotel was also pretty easy to get to, though a little less easy, given what traffic was up to at the time, to get from. This hotel is also my favourite format, external doors. The bed was also reasonably comfortable.

The shower head seemed anemic and here's my biggest frustration. We were told breakfast was from 6 to 9. Imagine my surprise when, at a bit after 8, there was no breakfast. If you only want to leave it out for two hours, I suggest not starting with six in the morning. Even dedicated business travellers are unlikely to be up and needing breakfast that early.

They provided a bag breakfast, I believe they said, but I don't eat breakfast so I can't comment on that. It was a very convenient location - very close to the highway and a lot of restaurants, grocery and other businesses around. It was suprisingly quiet. The WiFi was actually good and I maybe got cut off once - and I was on the computer a lot - I even had a "watch party" with my kids in another state on Amazon Prime video streaming - no problems at all with the Internet. The next place I stayed made me realize that. It's a basic motel - but I really enjoyed my stay!

For what it is - it actually does well. Totally met or exceeded my expectations.

There is a Mexican Restaurant not far, that is a MUST GO TO place to dine. Excellent, tasty food and GREAT margaritas. Oh, also booking.com says pet-friendly and pet fee is $25.

The only thing I didn’t like was the breakfast. Waffle machine doesn’t work well=half raw, no color waffles. Eggs and oatmeal tasteless. I should have stuck to the cereal and yogurt, coffee only. Other than that, a great place and recommend.

The room & bathroom were visibly clean, and the king bed & pillows were very comfortable. The scrambled eggs & biscuits were very good!

There was a mildew smell that I think came from A/C unit in room. The breakfast didn't have any fresh fruit, and the waffle batter was a bit too thin.

the hotel was fine but when I tried to cancel my second night with booking.com they were unreachable. Neveer book with them as you will not get your money back and they will ask for your reservation number and pin number which did not exist and furthermore they scrambled my email address so you could never reach them. I think this is the plan so they will NOT have to return your money. NEVER NEVER book with booking.com they are crooks!!!!!!!
