Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

spacious room, bathroom and balcony. bed was very comfortable with soft pillows. views of mountains was beautiful. bath was amazing. staff were very helpful and smiley. I felt comfortable to ask for help if needed. lovely atmosphere during breakfast and dinner with beautiful food especially the handmade blackcurrant yoghurt.

view was lovely and you could see the mountains from the bed although we happened to be put in the room in front of the road and graveyard. the other side of the hotel is more my style. room was freezing when we arrived including the bathroom although this was fixed quickly by staff. the bathroom floors could do with under floor heating. shower is not very spacious attention to detail is amazing

Beautiful tranquil setting - we would have been perfectly content staying here the entire trip and done day trips from the hotel. The room was so inviting and the bed was really comfortable.

So, we had great and terrible dining experiences. The first night we ordered the pan fried cod - absolutely delicious. Next night - the fish and chips was the worst we’ve eaten in Ireland. The fish was battered and fried with the skin on, which killed the taste for me. When the waitress asked if we liked our meals, it was obvious that I didn’t care for mine since the fish was untouched. I was honest with her and her response might as well have been - oh well. She didn’t ask if she could get me something else nor was there an offer to not charge for the meal.

The obvious reason to stay here is for the dramatic view across to the mountains and lake (need to get a lakeside room). It has been extended and modernised over the years and is of a very high quality, overall. We had booked a lakeview room but were upgraded to a lakeview Suite (thank you, Aghadoe!). Massive room and comfortable bed etc. No noise disturbance from within the hotel or outside. Very friendly staff, in all roles. I had last stayed here 30 years ago for business and now for a social visit to rediscover Ireland and my old memories of the place. There is a choice of eating locations (Room Service, Bar/Lounge with extensive choices and their restaurant. We didn't have the time to use the Spa or swimming pool, so can't comment on those. Overall a very pleasant visit.

Most of the food was very good but the slow-cooked lamb was a bit over-cooked, and spiced up instead of leaving the lamb to 'do the talking', and the vegetables were under-cooked. Food and drink prices were rather high and the room rate was very high vs similar room offerings elsewhere - yes, it's a high specification hotel with lots of staff, but a bit too pricey - I would say. We were there for a special occasion but I would not normally have paid so much for the room - lake view or not.

The room we had was lovely - very comfortable. Lunches and dinner in The Lounge was fab! Thanks to Maura for making us feel special! We will be back in September 2021

Breakfast was hit and miss lacking attention to detail and food quality

Nice hotel, but we have stayed in nicer 5 star. Room was comfortable, guy who brought our bags up was so nice and friendly and also bar staff are very nice and attentive. Breakfast for me was a bit of a let down, and not 5 star quality. Not sure if it was because there was a wedding on the same weekend our what, but they seems to walk around with no masks and didn't regard other peoples space at breakfast - which was annoying on our last day there. Food in bar was very nice on the night we ate on site, cannot fault that. Breakfast could be improved.

Breakfast choice and quality was less than expected, not very tasty and have had way nicer in other places from 3 star to 5.

Dinner service was horrible. We had to ask for everything. After our starters were cleared the French chap(I can't remember his name) asked if we wanted dessert. I don't blame him, he is a intern and only on property about 2 weeks. Lovely guy,we met him in the bar before dinner. At several points, he was the only staff member in sight. We had to ask for our main course as we waiting oner 20 minutes after starter plates were cleared. No check back after mains were served. After mains, we had to ask for dessert menus. Both restaurants didn't seem to be overly busy even though there were lots of people there. This really let the F&B side down. Breakfast was the complete opposite, so not sure what was happening Saturday evening. Other than that, everything was absolute fantastic.

We were upgraded to a Lake View room (Thanks Noreen!) it was SUPERB! Bedding was divine, room lovely, amazing view. Lovely full bathroom (separate shower & bath!)

Pool temp could have been warmer. The lighting and ambience in the main restaurant feels like a convention center. It is a vast space and more should be done to screen parts, add foliage or soften some areas, to make the overall experience more relaxed, calming and fitting of 5star.

We stayed for our anniversary and my partners birthday. From the time we arrived they couldn’t do enough for us, we were upgraded to a junior suite when we arrived, they left complimentary sweets in the room o. arrival when they heard we were coming for an occasion. We couldn’t find a fault in anything. I’m 6 months pregnant and we couldn’t get a taxi with the Kerry game on so a girl called Celeste from reception offered to give us a lift she was also pregnant I was in shock it was so nice of her to do. All the staff where so nice and couldn’t do enough for us. I would highly recommend this hotel. I couldn’t believe how nice it was. I also had a lovely pregnancy massage by Jen in the spa area the experience was so nice.
