Muntri Grove

The architecture, design and amenities are just stunning. Feels very Penang. Truly incredible value for money and unsurpassed location just off Chulia Street. Staff are so pleasant and helpful too.

Unfortunately the new bar (not associated with the property but very nearby) made sleep really difficult. We arrived on a Thursday and while the staff did everything they could to ensure we rested well, the karaoke (?) noise was too much. As it was likely to get worse over the weekend, the staff very kindly arranged for us to move to another of their properties, Jawi Peranakan Mansion, which was also beautiful. I would happily return to Muntri Grove if the bar closes, otherwise I’d stay again at Jawi or one of their other properties. Amazing place but the noise is hard to deal with.

We had a lovely spacious, comfortable room with beautiful timber floors and high volted ceilings. The location was great. It's close to cafes, bars and restaurants, temples and atreet art. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The bed was a bit too firm for me. There was a venue not far from the hotel that played live loud music most nights during our stay. Management said they would address the council about it. Thankfully its a no smoking hotel but every time you walk down into the reception area there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke that hits you. Obviously they smoke in the office behind the counter.

Wow, what an amazing stay in this heritage hotel! I know Penang quite well to say that this is one of the nicest streets to stay during a holiday. There are different cafes and restaurants in the area, and even though you feel like you are staying in a quiet, peaceful alley, you are only a few steps away from the lively Chulia street and near a lot of street art and great local food shops. Staff is amazing and so helpful. The rooms are huge and the decoration and eye for detail is amazing. We stayed 4 nights and did not want to leave. Would definitely stay here again when we are in Penang.

I wish we could stay longer!

a wonderful escape, quiet and a slightly hidden enclave within Georgetown. staff were delightful and smiley. we got a complimentary birthday slice of cake from the hotel, it was DELICIOUS! we loved that! really appreciated the room and sheets being very very clean. room size was large and comfortable.

ventilation in the room could be improved. they had a dehumidifier in the room for the purpose, as upon entry, the room smelled wet and musty. I suggest keeping the dehumidifier on the entire length of your stay. if you’re not sensitive to smells, you should be completely fine. bed could be a little hard for some people’s taste.

Muntri Grove is on the fringe of Georgetown and is the prefect location for exploring the old town as well as the Fort Cornwallis area. We liked that we could explore Georgetown on foot and return to the hotel to rest, and then be off again without having to beat traffic congestion in a vehicle. We stayed at Muntri Grove two nights and then extended a third night.

A factor beyond the hotel's control is the occasional loud night music from a nearby pub. We enjoyed old hits one night. Another night, we were too tired to care after a while. All in, it wasn't a major deterrent for us, even though I am sensitive to loud noises.

Muntri Grove is a beautifully designed hotel which really embraces the heritage of Penang. The rooms were excellent, they were extremely clean and very spacious, a great place to relax and enjoy. The hotel had a great location, walking distance to numerous great restaurants and shops. We received amazing assistance from the staff at reception who recommended many excellent places to visit and tips to keep in mind (Shoutout to Joyce ❤️).

Beautiful, big and super clean hotel room, incredibly kind staff and ideally located in Georgetown. Lebuh Muntri is a quieter street with beautiful buildings, several fun restaurants and cafes (try Gala House and Bottega) and some cool street art. The hotel has a beautiful garden and fantastic swimming pool. We would especially like to thank Jenny for her hospitality and recommendations!

This is a very nice hotel situated in the quiet area yet within walking distance to the main tourist attractions ( Chowrasta Market, Blue Mansion, Chulia and Kimberly Street Night Street Market) in Georgetown. The staff there are very helpful and friendly. The room is clean and very spacious. Would definitely recommend it to all who is looking for accommodation in Georgetown.

There's some construction going on next to the hotel, so probably a bit of noise during daytime. But shouldn't be too much of problem since most will be out.

Spacious room as I expected with good ventilation. Location is just nice for us go around Georgetown, most are walking distance, very convenient to get good food around.

If the ceiling fan speed control is digital type will be much better than current unit. And, feel discomfort with the sound from the ceiling fan.

The room is exceptionally large, and the design separates the sleeping area with the TV area/living area which makes it very accommodative and comfortable. You could have one person watching the TV while not disturbing the other person who is sleeping. Three person could comfortably stay in the same room, as the sofa area could be used as a sleeping area. The staff were exceptional, in the way that they provide the services. They are also friendly and very helpful. Its location in Muntri Street, nearby Love Lane and very close to all the other historical buildings such as the Cheog Fatt Tze Mansion, and the many street food and upscale and boutique restaurants means that you just have to walk or rent a bicycle to go around. Would totally promote Muntri Grove to my friends and family!

However, there are quite a lot of mosquitos in the area as it is quite like a grove. However, as long as you stay indoors and close your windows and doors, it should be fine. They also provides what I would assume as mosquito repellant device, and the bed also got mosquito net - not that you need them anyway as long as your keep all doors and windows closed. They also uses semi-transparent glass door for the toilet, so someone from the outside could actually see the silhouette of a person taking a shower, which might not be ideal if you are not married couples or lovers.
