Hotel Ateneo Sevilla

Set in a central location, this beautifully appointed hotel is decorated with exquisite antique furniture & curios. The generous buffet breakfast was served in one of the many rooms or cosy seating areas off the main foyer. The courtyard area was a shady place to relax & read or cool off in the pool. The rooms were spacious & the bathrooms huge. The staff were professional & welcoming. Refreshments were offered as soon as you returned from sightseeing. The jug of iced water just inside the door was a nice touch. The bar was a great spot for a drink before dinner or a night cap after coming back from dinner.

It is difficult to find fault. Some suggestions would be - The air conditioning pointed directly over the bed which we found uncomfortable. The bathroom floor was very slippery when wet. It was disappointing having single use toiletries. A better quality would suit the standard of the hotel. The pool had exposed fibreglass along the edge. Some maintenance is needed.

The Ateneo is a beautiful Spanish Old World Palace - a boutique hotel in a quiet location on a beautiful plaza with several restaurants and an old church. For the stay of a lifetime, book the "Junior Suite" (I have no idea why this is called a "Junior Suite") because it is huge - with 3 full bathrooms and a 3 story beautiful HUGE wooden library filled with wonderful old books and living room that brings pleasure to all the senses. Check out the pics because it doesn't get better than this. Delightful, helpful staff; quiet location; lovely full buffet breakfast. This may be the best value anywhere.

The parking seems a bit of a challenge at first - but if the hotel added or sent out a simple map, it would become clear through the warren of streets in Sevilla's old town, that the parking lot is a very short 2 block walk in a very nice neighborhood. Really quite simple once you get the layout of the area. A small map would help because although Waze got us within 50 feet the hotel was behind an old cathedral and not visible from Waze's endpoint. Don't let this deter you from the total joy that awaits at this jewel.

Absolutely one of the most beautiful hotels imaginable at a very affordable price. From the moment of arrival you feel like you have stepped into a movie scene. From the gracious, kind, and warm welcome to the ushering through the boutique hotel, it was simply amazing. To top this off, the hotel and room were spotless…perfection! Our room was the library and having stayed in many hotels around the globe, I have never been in a more impressive setting that this. Again, right out of a movie set. The circular staircase to the sleeping area was the icing on the cake. The location of the hotel is perfect in its own little courtyard shared with a couple of other boutique hotels and little cafes; a very walkable location to everywhere from here…nothing was more than a gentle 15 minute stroll. The breakfast selection was just ridiculously good and such a varied selection. Keeping in mind this is a small boutique hotel, we could not believe how impressive the breakfast selection was, and it was included in our room rate. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel…Perfection!

Our only disappointment is that we could not stay longer….amazing.

I went back and forth on whether to splurge on a room at Hotel Ateneo and I am very glad I did. The assortment of classical and baroque pieces throughout the hotel were very thoughtfully assembled and collectively added to the romance that really captures the whole essence of this place. After dinner, we came back and spontaneously indulged in the beauty around us with a little impromptu photoshoot downstairs and had a very lovely chat with the front desk attendant who gave us a little tour of the different common spaces and info on some specific pieces. Our room (Superior Double) was similarly romantic and regal and included a very spacious bathroom with a shower and jacuzzi tub. The breakfast buffet was awesome- lots of choices and high quality options (including mimosas.) It is an easy walk to las Setas and other parts of Sevilla. This is a very special place and we had a similarly very special experience here.

Only thing is that our room was quite dark in the morning. The only option that we saw for additional light to come in was by opening shutters that faced the interior of the courtyard and we weren't sure about privacy or possible noise.

Our room was extraordinary, absolutely extraordinary. Staying at the Hotel Ateneo felt like being a guest at Hearst's Castle, or sleeping in a museum or library. The room was much, much larger than expected, with everything you could need, and many details designed just to enchant. The architecture and the furnishings were absolutely magical. My husband and I agree that this was the nicest hotel room that we have ever stayed in.

The orange flower cologne which is so wonderfully characteristic of Sevilla, was entirely overpowering. As soon as we entered the lobby, and throughout the building, it was outrageously strong. In smaller doses it would have been a delightful scent, but it was far too strong, and made us sneeze.

The hotel is very well positioned for exploring the old city and the Setas. The design and decoration are very attractive and interesting and the pool, although small, was very welcome as a place to cool off after a day walking around the city. Staff were very courteous and helpful, with ice-cold lemon water always available in the lobby when we came in from the heat outside.

The pool is perhaps a little small if you want to actually swim.

We loved the hotel. It is beautiful and in the old Spanish style with the center courtyard. The furniture in the lobby is lovely and suits the style of the hotel. Our room was decorated with antiques and had a pretty chandelier. We spent a lot of time in the pool as we were there during August.

This hotel is located in a great area. The restaurants nearby were spectacular. We would definitely stay here again. Good breakfast and the staff went out of their way to help us when needed.

Located in tranquil plaza with open air cafes. The atmosphere as one walked in made one feel as if we had found a truly different type of hotel from the bog standard that are the majority. Full of character, artefacts all without being tacky. An air of sumptuousness abounded. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our bedroom on the 2nd floor faced the back - very quiet. Powerful shower. Well lit. Sadly didn't have time to try the small outside pool.

Our room, which overlooked the courtyard, was very nice and quiet. It's a small hotel, so even with full occupancy it's still rather quiet. We appreciated the decorative, yet very eclectic touches from another time. It was like sleeping in another time period. It is certainly the most interesting place we have ever stayed. Of course, the staff was very accommodating during our stay.

One day housekeeping cleaned the room, took the towels, but did not replace them. We had to contact the desk staff to get two full sets of towels. On another day, the towels were taken but we received partial sets.

Beautiful hotel and room. Had a lovely unique boutique quality. The room was spacious, comfortable and had good AC. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and there was good variety and options. It's a lovely hotel which is walking distance to all the major sites.

The bed was two twin beds pushed together which was OK and they were very firm beds. The beds and pillows could have been more comfortable and were just OK.
