The Old Clare Hotel

The hotel is beautifully designed and has great facilities. The food was excellent and staff were very nice. Our room was quite spacious, with a very comfy bed.

The windows were far from soundproof; given the location of the hotel we were woken up every morning around 5am by trucks (?) and ongoing construction works. Around the weekend, there were also parties in the neighboring bars and unfortunately that made it impossible to fall asleep as we could hear everything. Although the rooms were very clean, they were not impeccable - for those who find this very important, maybe good to take it into account.

The rooms were amazing. Huge with some fantastic integrated architectural features. mine had huge windows and ceilings, my friends’ had amazing freestanding bathroom features. Reception and communal areas were industrial chic and all beautiful and very well maintained. The roof top bar was quiet when we visited with a couple of great cocktails. The hotel bar, open to all, was lively when we came back after an evening out and still serving after 11pm

my room was fantastic but it was on the mezzanine level, closest to the reception. whilst it didn’t bother me, I could hear the music from the reception when I was lying in bed. might have been annoying if I was feeling “sleepy” after a night out.

Location. right on top of excellent public transport, bars, restaurants etc. Yet no disturbance to sleep at night. A winning combination. Comfort, welcome etc. great vibe of modern comfort mixed with quirky relics from the past like docklands in London. No problem with dumping the luggage early then getting a phone call that the room was available. First hotel in a long time with a mini bar and food facilities at any old time.

My wife and I have been married for 55 years and therefore were not too overcome by the see through shower. Just wondered how that might be perceived by members of some more reserved families.

The Old Clare Hotel is my main choice for stays in Sydney due to its quality and size of rooms and importantly location close to Central Station. The staff are always welcoming and rooms spotless. The provision of an espresso coffee machine is a bonus as is the hotel's location adjacent to multiple restaurants, bars and cafes in the area.

Refilling the Nespresso coffee pods daily would be welcomed although, I do always carry my own spare supply when travelling. Sometimes traffic noise from Broadway can be intrusive, especially late at night or early morning, dependent upon the room location.

We stayed at the Old Clare for two nights during our stay in Sydney - it was our little but of luxury at the end of the trip. We loved the quirkiness of the hotel - the decor, and the vibe you got from the rooms was really retro and cool. Our room was huge - beautiful high ceilings and a bed which could have slept five! It was also one of the most comfortable beds I have stayed in. During our stay, we ordered room service for breakfast and the food was amazing! Could not fault.

The 'gym' is not really a gym, more like a room with a few pieces of equipment in. It is also a little dark down in the room given its location in the basement. Would not really recommend for anyone looking for a solid workout, but for a quick 30 minute sweat it is probably fine.

Excellent hotel! Wow, wow, wow. This place is simply charming and cool. The staff are friendly and welcoming and look happy to be at work. The rooms are functional and a vibe. Floorboards are fresh and clean, great natural clean smell. Beds are comfy, the kind that you sink into. Bathroom is a class enclosure with frosted panels for some privacy. The rooftop pool is awesome with long opening hours 7am to 10pm. It’s a narrow lap pool next to the bar which can be a bit initiating 🏊‍♀️ Lots of cool features and a lovely blend of old and new. Valet parking is $70 which is a bit pricey but worth the money if you don’t want to bother parking in one of the overnight car parks in the Broadway area. Right next to Spice Alley and Sydney Central Chippendale so lots of food options in the area

The staffs are friendly and kind. The room was wonderful and I mostly like the split between the bedroom and living room :) It was cozy for me :) Also, the rooftop bar was moody and good :)

Wish there was a mirror right above the sink but it's quite understandable to prevent humidity in the bathroom. Hope the TV screen is able to connect with YouTube for more entertainment. (this is personal idea) The swimming pool wasn't exciting as I expected it's smaller than in the photo and also not in a really good mood to swim because it's right next to the bar. Not strongly recommend for swimming but strong recommend for the rooftop bar :)

Beautiful big room, cleaned very well every day. We were located on the ground floor next to a busy street but that did not interfere with our stay due to the excellent sound proofing / block out curtains

The Old Clare is a great staple hotel when we come to Sydney. Great location, friendly staff and good value for money in in terms of the quality and size of the rooms in comparison to other Sydney hotels in the sourrounding areas

Fantastic boutique hotel in terrific location, walking distance to Surry Hills, Darlinghurst & Paddington. 5 minute walk to Central Station (access to CBD and Airport). We stayed in a Chippendale Loft room which was very spacious and beautifully styled. Rooftop with pool and bar is a great vibe, even when the weather wasn’t so.

Not to detract but: For a hotel of this calibre and price point, I would expect at least complimentary bottled water in the rooms. Bed was too soft for any reasonable person - we are both average build and sunk into the bed when you sat down to put shoes on etc.

Convenient, stylish, perfectly placed next to spice alley and walking distance to other great restaurants and bars. Takeaway cocktails from the downstairs bar. Private rooms. Gorgeous rooftop swim.

There is some noticeable wear and tear to the property since I last stayed—scuffs to the cabinetry in the room, the decking around the pool etc. The king mattress was very soft and dipped in the middle a bit.
