Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone

The location is perfect . Hotel is on the river beautiful setting. The breakfast is fabulous and breakfast area is managed so well and selection is fabulous. The beds are very comfortable and spacious. Room spotless. All staff are very friendly helpful and nice..

. We usually stay in this hotel twice a year and are allways very happy.We booked a table in the restaurant for the 2nd night of our stay. Unfortunately the evening did not come up to the standard of service we received in the restaurant in the Radisson on previous stays. It was disappointing.There was a concert on which left extra pressure on the staff in the restaurant and chefs. Staff were doing their best under the circumstances. Management would need to review how the people that are staying in the hotel are looked after and also that the staff are considered.. We love to stay in this hotel and this one negative experience will not put us off. We will stay again and look forward. to the next stay.

Breakfast was good but we had to keep asking for tea, butter, gluten free toast several times on both mornings. Location is great

Dinner menu, on Sunday we were hoping for a Sunday roast. Ordered steak which was 29 euro and had to send it back as it was tough.

The staff that waited on us all night where ANAZING!! Could not fault them they were very good and would always check on us and very polite.

I can not praise the staff that waited on us all night enough, but I think it was the manager that treated us differently to rest of residents. On arrival he stood in the middle of the lobby staring at us making us feel uncomfortable, he also made a deal when I booked a table for a my self and my wife and another couple that was with us he called out in the middle of the lobby to other man with us "get back in line and reserve your booking and stop skipping" i had to quickly tell him that I have already booked our table. It was quite embarrassing, he would also walk out every hour or so to the beer garden and go around to every table with residents and ask how they were and if they needed anything and would skip our table and give us a most unwelcoming look.

Last time we stayed here the outdoor space was amazing the big comfy chairs and umbrellas the deck area was beautiful. but because the was a function on both days part of the deck area was blocked off so we ended up sitting on becnchs no umbrellas so sitting in the sun no shade pity really. The room we got was river view but on the inside corner of the hotel room 119 but unfortunately the room beside us which had full time residents was so close we had to keep the curtains closed. Rooms we’re okay bit dark could do with a freshing up. second day we stayed out of the hotel due to the function. Breakfast nice except for the undone sausages both mornings overall though it was okay

Rooms bit dark maybe if we had the curtains open might not have been as bad. Friday morning there was builders working from 6:30 drilling 😩

The breakfast was a disappointment..I had never been before and no staff explained that you had to queue for everything. You tea coffee toast cuttlery ketchep ect.. I was back up and down from my seat 6 times before I could sit down and eat. I found that annoying. I cook every day at home I would have liked and did expect that that my coffee would at least be served to me and cutlery on the table. Nothing was explained and other customers were helping each other as to where things were. In terms of food. The scrambled eggs were runny and off putting. The breakfast experience would discourage me from staying again. Or else I would stay and not get the breakfast.

The room was cold on arrival. noise from traffic could be clearly heard as if the traffic was in the room. I think the swimming pool was a bit tricky as the steps of the pool were built into the wall of the pool and you have to walk in backwards and hold on to the bars tightly. Not great for me as I had an injured knee. One of the customers in the pool had to explain where the steps were. The person that was at the desk should have explained this. I wasn’t asked if I had been there previously and I did go to the pool area using a walking stick so in my opinion that was disappointing.

The location was excellent. Staff at reception were super nice especially Lauren who looked after us very well. Turlay in the restaurant at breakfast was fab, such a lovely, warm, friendly lady. Room was basic but very comfortable and spacious.

Room was very warm, but they did provide a fan when we requested one. Unfortunately, the pool was closed for maintenance during our stay, which was a pity, but they did give us complementary use of local pool facilities which was superb with a large outdoor playground!

Hotel is nice, lovely lobby and bar area with terrace outside. We had a Suite with River View which was lovely with great view, spacious, comfy bed, clean. Could do with few decor improvements

The Suite with River View didn't match the expectations for the exorbitant price we were charged (apart from the view). It didn't have a mini fridge, we had to request one, the room was bland, no character, nothing interesting in decor...Had nothing special to be worth over 300 Euro a night !! In the photos, it looked like there was a sofa in the room, but we only had some armchairs.. It could be a lot nicer with few extra nice touches to warm it up !

Most of the staff were great with accomodating my needs with only a few blips. The hotel accommodated my need for an Accessible Family Room in a very proactive way and provided almost everything.

There is no way for deaf patrons to contact Reception from the room. My son's breakfast contained eggs- which I had highlighted was one of his allergies. The days I struggled with my mobility there was no understanding from the staff on duty about accessing breakfast even though we had paid for breakfast.

proximity to shopping and river walks clean and very quiet at night Er had a friendly welcome but even though we were at least half an hour early, we had to wait over an hour before our room was ready. we were upgraded to a junior suite though and given a complimentary drink do that was great. the swimming pool was lovely and clean and we had it to ourselves for at least 45 mins before a family land two couples joined us. the steam room and sauna were clean and well kept.

close proximity to town pubs as people flocked from there to the hotel after the pubs closed and it was noisy and a bit messy with people too drunk and doing g the usual unpleasantries associated with drunkness. three was a two day concert with a 6 piece band, The Whistling Donkeys in the hotel so maybe that explains the excessive movement and a bit of a slow service in the bar and restaurant the next day.
