Hotel Excelsior San Marco

The hotel is in a very centre of the lower city and we had a view from our balcony to the square. Here we had one of the richest breakfasts I have ever got not just in Italy but probably anywhere else. The rooms are very nice with a brand new furniture and bathroom. Very clean and the ladies made up our room every day. We enjoyed our stay very much!

There are some ridiculously cheap solutions: just the cheapest possible plastic glass in the rooms, the balcony bars were not painted in the last 30 years. Also no chairs on the balcony to sit down. (Otherwise from here there is a nice overview of the city and the square. These would cost pennies to repair and improve overall feeling.

Have stayed here a few times, and to be honest its probably one of the better ones in the new town part of Bergamo. Everyone knows the hotel and there are lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and its also quite close to walk to the funiculare (cable car) to the old city, probably about 10 minutes walk. We only went to the restaurant for breakfast and it was pretty good, included in our room rate. Staff are excellent and professional to deal with.

The hotels a bit old, but still in good condition. Always feels like a bit of a retro 90's vibe! Parking is very limited and costs a fair bit, but in fairness this is central Bergamo and no hotel will have ample free parking.

The location of the hotel is very good - minutes from the station/airport and between the old and new towns; so you can easily walk to either. The hotel is a 4* and looks like it in the entrance, with very helpfull staff and all of the trappings you would expect. The room was spacious Breakfast was included and well worth having - continental/ eggs & bacon/fruit etc. - Gluten free bread etc as well Worth a note that the hotel held our baggage after checkout while we waited for the plane

The room was rather tired, chips, nicks, fading and wear very evident on corners and carpets. To be fair at the price point not unexpected but the underside of the air con could have been hoovered more effectively

Room was older and didn't smell very nice

The room is nicely designed, and there are two pillows and a bigger-than-usual bed. Breakfast is wonderful, with things like pastries and croissants, yoghurts, cereals, fruits, as well as a few hot dishes (eggs and bacon). Location is along the "1" bus line, which goes to the train station, airport, and Città Alta (where all the tourist attractions are), which makes it quite convenient. Elevator goes to all floors.

There was an opaque shutter on the window, and I couldn't figure out how to open it. I'm not sure if it's intended to be impossible to open, but a window (with visible light coming in) seems like something that should be expected unless otherwise explicitly stated. If it is impossible to open the opaque shutter, then it is as good as no window at all, and should be mentioned in the booking. If it is possible to open the shutter, then instructions in the room would be good.

The hotel was very nice,the staff were really lovely.We we’re just staying one night before a very early morning flight.They arranged a 4am taxi for us and gave us a breakfast bag with juice ,croissants etc which was a lovely touch.The room was spotless,a little quaint,the shower was tiny but everything worked and there was complimentary water in the fridge. You could hear the traffic outside but we were 6 floors up so not too noisy.The electronic shutters were great,the air conditioning was good.The location was perfect for visiting the old city.Iwould recommend this hotel.

we stayed at the 4th floor, room that was faced to the old city (west side)- the view was quite good. I would not recommend choosing lower floors, because in that case your windows will be faced into the well-like backyard where a lot of facilities are happening (=noise). I was worrying about the noise from the street, but we slept with closed windows - so there were no noise from outside. The only thing the noise can come from is from neighbours, but we were lucky our neighbours were quiet. We liked breakfast (for us there were enough variables and fruits, although it might be not enough variety if you are a vegetarian). Also late check in at 12 pm is also a great option!

Cleaning lady had rung to our room at 9:30 for the room service. I would prefer they do cleaning in the midday.

The hotel is centrally located; both the funicular station and the railway station were an easy walk from the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and polite, and the room was cleaned immaculately each day. My room was a good size, with a balcony that overlooked the città alta, which was stunning. There was a good range of options available at the breakfast buffet each morning, with coffee, juices, pastries, fruit, meats, cheeses and eggs. On the last day, the Reception staff very kindly organised a driver to take me to the airport, and because my flight was so early, even provided me with a breakfast bag to take with me! I would certainly stay at this hotel again - thank you for a wonderful stay!

No faults!

The location was amazing, right in the middle of everything and only a 15 minute walk to the train station. The breakfast had an amazing selection and was very tasty. We had a meal in the restaurant for our first night and although it was pricey, the food was so delicious. The dessert was one of the nicest I've had. Very quiet in the room, we couldn't hear much going on in the other rooms so we had a really comfortable sleep. The room was also very clean. The best part of this hotel was the service. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. All restaurant staff, receptionists and housekeeping were so lovely and helpful and nothing was too much. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Bergamo.

If I had to fault anything, perhaps we would have liked more facilities in the room like an iron and ironing board and a kettle. But these weren't too important for us.
