Distinction Whangarei Hotel & Conference Centre

The rooms were nice and clean and the beds were quite comfy. Good location, only a short drive into the main shopping village and all it had to offer.

The staff were beyond nice. Particularly the lady who was manning the buffet breakfast during our stay at the receptionist with what I'm trying to recall after this time was black curly hair (I apologise if I've gotten this wrong), those two ladies were very hospitable and had a lovely energy about them. I will however point out that the young lady who was on the evening we checked in, had bit of an attitude, this was only forgiven as the other staff we encountered were so accommodating, possibly something that may need monitoring or further training on. Another note would be to maybe install another washer and dryer for the volume of rooms there are.

Clean room, good to have a restaurant on site, nice friendly staff. Great location opposite a lovely location and close to town and the supermarket.

The only thing I didn't like about the Distinction was the rooms were not sound proofed. I got very little sleep over the four nights I stayed at the hotel. If you had your TV on and the room next door had their TV on you could hear everything from the other room, it was terrible. You could hear people on the phone talking, people talking at all hours of the night. I complained and the night staff told the people in the room to turn down their TV, at 3:30 am after listening to sport for hours! If there were rooms above you, I could also hear when people got up and walked around..

We liked the location close to town. Any staff we spoke to were very polite, kind and helpful. The room was good but the curtains were not great, and the view out the window was not good, and at least the lawns could have been mowed! Otherwise everything was good.

The curtains were not good. The lawns outside the window could have been mowed. The hotel itself is good but badly in need of a complete renovation. But still worth considering a stay as there are still a lot of good things going on, our room had been renovated, and the location was really, really good.

The room, bed and cleanliness were excellent but … (next paragraph) We loved the location and balcony room with marina view but we certainly paid the extra to get that. Good sized room! Good selection of tea and coffee etc! Location to the good restaurants in Whangarei were a plus, walking distance. Staff friendly on arrival and check out.

The sink and bath in bathroom were badly stained. Certainly sink needs to be replaced or stain sorted. Only one chair on balcony with table. Generally there would be two people staying as in our case. Didn’t have time to explore other facilities as we were only there for one night. Overall place not flash but certainly looks clean, tidy and of a good standard.

- Large room - Tidy and cozy - Restaurant service and food very nice - Improvements seen Stayed here quite a few times over years , totally enjoyed our stay this time , Room has everything in its place, power plugs in easy location, TV is abit dated but has good range of Sky channels , Bathroom is great with spa bath and shower. Restaurant Staff were exceptional , very helpful and kind , Restaurant manager bought baby chair out to us for our 1 year old and she specially cleaned it in front of us with wet wipes and wiped Olivia's hands to reduce risks very thoughtful and appreciated , food was very nice and larger then expected servings. Parking good Reception lady on Sunday morning very nice and helpful, asked if they could allow late checkout I was expecting til 11am and she offered til 12pm lunch time Very nice allowed me to rest

The only thing that could be improved is the customer service and friendless of the reception girl on Saturday, Seems like she really doesn't like her job and tries to ignore you , not helpful. Minor upgrades could still be done to improve customer experience, overall the place is alot better then previously, I see they are doing upgrades slowly and this is great we will stay again. Bed was nice and large but slightly painful on hip ...possibly could be upgraded in future

Great location central to city and eating places. We had booked a double room for 3 people and were pleasantly surprised they put us in a triple room. Beds were lovely and comfy room was spacious with lots of storage and a bath!!

Rooms have been refurbished, the hall way carpet and surroundings could do with a face lift too. Overall great stay and friendly staff

very modern in the room, honestly very comfortable and just everything was so beautiful I didn’t wanna leave and you had nearly everything there, also lovely costumer service from the ladies. also very close to everything

not much just wish there was a microwave and something to maybe cook your food if you buy stuff. also have a little outside patio to sit privately but apart from that everything was good.

The breakfast and room service was great. Coming back again to have the breakfast! The room was cozy and modern. The bed was very comfortable. We missed the gym and pool but was good that they have them!

The bathroom didn't feel very modern. The shower felt small. Our window looked out to the back of the section which was quite overgrown and needed a mow.

Sasha, was awesome an absolute keeper. So was the chap that was on reception when we arrived. The staff, the food, the location was all perfect. Needs a revamp though and it could be perfect. although clean, the bed was uncomfortable. a nice new higher bed with a new mattress would improve the comfort for sure. Still loved it and would stay again and recommend to my friends.

Just the bed really and the carpet/decor which Im sure is on the list of things to do

Location is hard to beat being so close to the Town Basin precinct. Good room, everything in good condition. Noted the in-house dining and pool (didn't use this time).

Room rate is at the higher end of expectations.
